  1. I would say january. Cold, dark and wishing the christmas food was still around
  2. I popped down to the river yesterday and it was really barrelling through. I fished a slack with my brother for a few hours with smelly baits trying to tempt something but it wasn't happening. We have a trip planned for this evening to try and snag a carp and with the levels dropping off again I think you are right that it could be good sport this evening. He had one on Tuesday so we are hoping to repeat that success. He has found that single baits with no free offerings seem to catch the carp.
  3. I have had a couple of fish so far. 3 chub last time out but only one barbel in 3 sessions which is not the usual for the places I go to. Im not complaining though. Will be more rewarding when they start to feed and move about again. I saw someone say that perhaps the low water has led to them not leaving their spawning grounds and of course if they are still at it anyway they wont be feeding hard.
  4. Yes I think you could be right. By all accounts I have heard it seems to be a slow start for most.
  5. Belting fish there Ian. Beats my pb by a good pound. It is so hard to show their size when there is no one else there to photograph you holding it. Shame about your spots getting plundered. I'm on a new stretch at the moment so still trying to figure it out. Not had the best start to the season but I will figure it out.
  6. Cheers folks. I have a bait fridge in the garage which gets mega cold so I think I will take the shelves out and store the bucket in there.
  7. I will be on a new (to me) stretch of the Ribble. Genuinely can't wait. I plan to turn up thursday evening and fish from 12 into the early morning. I have a bucket of hemp reading to go now and have been prebaiting for a while. I plan to pop down this evening to prebait again.
  8. Hi all, I am planning on cooking heaps of hemp today ready for the 16th and was wondering if I can store it in a bucket covered with water or will it go funky and put the fish off?
  9. Hi all, I am planning on cooling heaps of hemp today ready for the 16th and was wondering if I can store it in a bucket covered with water or will it go funky and put the fish off?
  10. Hi Martin, I am sending the cash today. Had to find an envelope.
  11. Hi Keith, I have the Korum 42", it also comes with a pole, which I use for pike fishing and have found it to be very robust. I have had mine a few years now and it has never shown any signs of breaking even with large fish.
  12. Yep mine is the same. Many thanks Martin. I am planning to pass some on to my nephew who is just beginning his angling journey.
  13. I have never used wasp grub. Maybe I am too young to have been around when it was popular I did find the small beginnings of a wasps nest in my loft a few weeks back. Thinking maybe I should have let it develop a bit
  14. Thanks guys. Great to know. You seem right in that the spliced tip does seem to be solid carbon. The rod will almost certainly be getting used on the river for stick float fishing and now that I have a better idea of what the other section is intended for that will likely get a run out too. Appreciate the information
  15. Hi all, I have managed to get my hands on an old daiwa rod again and was wondering if you guys had any info on it with your wealth of knowledge? I am still using the old match lite stick that i got some time ago and love it. I saw this other rod come up on facebook and chucked a cheeky £25 offer on it and he agreed. I picked it up this evening. It is called a Daiwa Match Lite Duo 13ft and comes with two top sections. One seems heavier than the other. After collecting it it was tricky to figure out what it was intended for. It kind of seems like a float rod with a lighter and heavier tip. Would this be an accurate description of its original intended use? Also it seemed to have a repair on one section but I wasn't sure if this was a spliced in tip rather that a repair. I plan to use it for float fishing on the river or reservoir. The possible repair?
  16. I've never used circle hooks before. Will be interesting to hear your results.
  17. Cheers guys. I gave the suggestions a go yesterday. It was a tough day with clear water, bright sunshine and heaps of wind. I managed just 5 perch from a reservoir. The hair rigged worm seemed most effective in hooking them. No bream sadly which was the target.
  18. Hi all, As I have had the unfortunate falling through of my childcare for the weekend, meaning I can no longer attend Wingham, I am consoling myself with a trip to a reservoir tomorrow to cheer myself up. I am planning on fishing a maggot feeder with dendrobaena on the hook. I was wondering what hook size and hooking technique you guys find most effective with worms? Do you head hook them or side hook them? Nip the tail off? Basically how do you hook yours and any other tips when fishing them.
  19. Hi Anthony, Thanks for the advice. I will give that a go for sure. I wasnt planning on bringing maggots as i am getting a tub of dendras so was was planning to chop them up and mix with some form of groundbait. This is to try for the tench but also to try to get among the big eels again on one rod at night. I managed a 4.12 last time i was lucky enough to go so would love to beat that. But yes the main target as ever will be the tench. I think I will try the groundbait on ine rod and maybe pellets on another as I have loads of pellets at home which I have got for trying to tempt a river carp when the season reopens. Its the only major species i havent taken from the river now so got a real bee in my bonnet about changing that this year. Ive just got a great new permit for it. Its interesting you mentioned fake corn and maggots. Im always really worried about using them as ive never done well in them but ive heard more and more recently people mentioning using them.
  20. Anthony, I may very well be asking for some advice at some point as I have never caught a wingham tench (or anything besides pike and eels) in 3 trips there over the last 8 years or so via fish-ins. Desperate to change that this year if I get the nod from Steve to attend.
  21. The method feeder idea is a good one RUDD. I am wanting to try pellets next time I go to the tench water I have tried so may try that out.
  22. Something I have never done that Brian. Wouldn't even know where to start if I am honest.
  23. I think I would likely use a polaris float if I were to decide to float fish it. At least I know I am at the correct depth wherever it lands that way. Slightly different method I know. I would normally avoid places like this but it does hold some good fish and it is worth a few trips. Wish I could fish the river
