  1. Done quite well myself on inline spinners but if I had to choose just one lure, it'd be a 3" Kopyto in white on a 5g Jighead. However, I use them a LOT so I know how to fish them and I think that's the crux of the matter. Plus it'll probably only work on the waters I fish too... The search continues
  2. Perch in a few places but now moving onto the far bigger lures for Pike as the big girls start herding the baitfish into the boatyards.
  3. Rest assured, I wear a 50N impact vest on the boat. Thinking seriously about the 8' Odyssey 4wt for starters. Going a bit heavier as I can't find an 8' 3wt and I'll be fishing quite large stillwaters plus the extra reach will help if I want to try it on the kayak Not sure what reel yet, but as Worms says, I think I just need a glorified cotton reel for starters Thanks guys, now to research lines... tippets... and flies...
  4. I want to try my hand at fly fishing for coarse species. Roach/Rudd etc. Preferably rod/reel/fly-line for under £100. From my brief research I feel a 4-5wt rod, medium action, 8-9', suitable reel and WF taper fly-line. Will mainly be fishing from a boat, standing up(less crap to catch bankside ) Is this achievable within budget? If so, what would you recommend? Thanks in advance
  5. I'm a Panasonic man myself. Think it's more familiarity than anything but they do work well and the IA (intelligent Auto) mode is exceptional and very user friendly. Currently have a DMC-FS15 and a DMC-G2.
  6. I'm with you there Ken. Maybe a bit (only a bit) of oversensitivity from you this time Cory but I can't deny your logic. Actually made me chuckle a few times
  7. It'd count for me mate, personally I prefer 'short distance' releases, shaking the hooks just before chinning is always good. Another rule is 'touching the leader'. A personal fave of mine involves small jacks, a kayak and 'airtime'. This is usually shortly followed by my biggest hate... A kayak, trebles and a small jack in close proximity to my goolies... Sometimes nearly involving 'bath-time', for me Just don't let it happen in the comp mate! (that'll get 'em wondering ) Anderoo, next time take a lighter and melt 'em back together! Even tiny shads still fish fine after a good melting Do you often get a large tear where the hook exits the shad? Or just suffer from 'Jack Attack'?
  8. Don't usually bait fish anymore, but I'd mash half a loaf, set up a freeline with one or 2 SSG's about 6" from the hook and fish a chunk of breadflake for the Carp in the margins. Mould mash around the shot and hang on The most important bit for me would be do something different to what is usually employed. For the Catfish and Sturgeon, I'm at a loss. Is there such a thing as a 'Roadkill feeder'?
  9. Would've been ok if it was crimped, I still reckon circle hooks are the way to go. Cleaner than the one I f**king stood on today though!
  10. Again, not the best but my favourites for lure fishing are: Rods: Savage and Cormoran Reels: Shimano and Okuma (almost shimmy quality at half the price imo) Line: Must be PowerPro but I DO love Sensor. Hooks: VMC Hooklengths: In my case, wire traces: Anything Titanium, Chico's are great. Floats: What're those again? General end tackle: DLST snaps and swivels. Bait: Lures: Relax and Big Hammer softbaits, Yo-Zuri and Bomber for hardbaits. Taking a liking to the HRT range now too.
  11. Try a strong storage box from QD/Wilkinsons, they're what I use for transfers. Better surface area to volume ratio than a bin too.
  12. Should be fine as long as the dustbin is clean. Do not use any detergents, just give it a good scrub with a 'new' scourer and warm water to prepare. Drain half the tank into bin, put heater into bin. Wait 10 minutes, then transfer fish. Drain rest of tankwater into bin. Connect existing filtration unit if possible. If not, no longer than 72 hrs in bin! Aeration a must in this case though. Only worry I would have is for the Clown Loach, the rest are tough as old boots tbh. Watch you don't catch the eye spines on the Loach though and the stress will be minimal. Top tip- remove all plants, bogwood, rocks etc BEFORE you catch the fish. Soooooo much easier. 2 nets makes it a doddle.
  13. Once saw a small Jack have a lunge at an even smaller Perch, then give it 'fins' when the Perch turned, displayed and chased it. Was funny as hell.
  14. Not been around long enough to get all nostalgic about much (unlike you old farts) but I do have an old rod, about 9' long. Not even sure what it's made of but has brass ferrules and sliding reel rings on a battered and weathered cork handle and that I still love to use, that used to be my Dads' and an old Ryobi FG rod that I graduated to before going all modern with my first 'graphite' rod in the mid 90's. I do prefer the minimalist approach, freelining being my favourite, with a few slices of bread in my pocket using an UL spinning outfit.
  15. And just so you all know... There are no fish AT ALL, on the Norfolk Broads. Not one. They've all been killed/eaten by salt surges/cormorants/otters/poachers/prymnesium/broads authority. So don't bother coming here for your holidays. However, I will take upon myself, the burden of fishing certain areas diligently and report back to you as soon as I discover life in this once beautiful hellhole... I make this sacrifice for the majority... No, don't all thank me at once
  16. Just couldn't use anything with trebles, it was so weedy. Had to stick with my Kopyto's and weedless topwaters. Will have to try some double bladed spinners when I get the chance though.
  17. First of all, I blanked but it was a lovely few hours in great surroundings. These pictures were taken on 17-6-12. All but one were taken by my beautiful fiancee Mesi, on her 8MP cameraphone. Fantastic quality imo and I will be getting her a DSLR camera soon, as she is crazy about pictures and I think she has an eye for it. Here are a few:- Watch out for this dodgy fella... This one just wasn't interested but posed nicely for us, I love how Mesi caught the contrast of shade and light in this one. A typical Norfolk Dyke... Lovely stretch of river here. Great scenery. Gin clear, marred by Red PowerPro And finally, the main photographer and light of my life. How she puts up with me I'll never know. This is the only photo I took in this selection. I think she definitely deserves a DSLR. Anyone got any recommendations for a good all-round performer?
  18. 4.5" Kopyto on a 5g head with an SSG chinweight. Gives it a nice gentle rolling action That lure, in that colour and weight is my 'banker' lure. Was getting desperate before that one stuck, I nearly ate a cow pie and everything!
  19. Very weedy at my venue of choice and clear as gin. Visibility about 6'! I sh!t you not, I watched Tench mooching about between the weedbeds! Brilliant stuff. Polaroids are a sound investment! Walked about 5 miles but at the far end of my jaunt, vis went down to about 6"! Very windy so no kayak but met up with Tony and Johnny and had a good old chinwag. Seems they struggled as well but that's how it goes. Had a fair few follows, about 5 takes and connected with 2. Landed one in the pic below but the other I graciously allowed a 'long distance release' So all told, not a red letter day but I didn't blank, got my face burnt to a crisp and had fun in great surroundings, plus I met a friend on my short hike and made a new one.
  20. Ok Mat, remember that farty little PM I sent you? Delete it, forget it and read this ^^^ THAT'S how you fish the broads! Impressive dant
  21. http://www.viscount-tackle.co.uk/sea_fishing_bait_guide.html Made oi giggle!
  22. Go to top right of 1st post. Click Options. Select 'Standard' from drop down list, it's below 'Display Modes'. HTH.
  23. So that's why I got the shakes last time... Thanks.
  24. For my area at least, the wind predictions are slowly decreasing in severity along with forecast precipitation. Atm, XC and Windguru are the least favourable predictions, with the Met being somewhat more optimistic. Fingers crossed the trend downwards (on all sites) continues, would be nice to have a play in my Kayak come Saturday!
  25. I don't actually know but I want to take a stab at why it could be. 1) Maybe, as your heart is receiving more oxygen now, it is pumping 'harder' than before, giving you a significantly higher upper pressure level, combined with a possible reduction in BPM. I would guess this will stabilise itself in the next few weeks. or; 2) Have you been replacing your fags with caffeine? That could increase your your BP a fair bit too. Congratulations btw. I've tried several times but failed as I was pushed into it most times. The last was my own choice but I don't think I wanted it enough. One day I'd like to think I can do it, only time will tell. Damn fags...
