  1. Jitterbug, Zara Spook and Scumfrogs are apparently reliable. Meadow Mice have their fans too. Tbh, I've not caught on them myself but know many guys who have and I have had a few follows that I couldn't convert very recently, bit half hearted during spawning time. I'm pretty new to this and have been concentrating on soft shads and the like, this is my first summer as I started last October. Have had a few shads taken by making a 'wake' and even had one surface smash so I know the adrenaline hit! You'll find more info if you do a search on your ATPP profile (I know where you go... mwah, haha haaaa... )
  2. About now ATS. The Pike have spawned in most places, the Frogs are thinking about it, so they're about. Really gets going in a month or so though. Thinking of a short session this afternoon with small topwaters for the first hour. If you're not overly confident with tops (like me) just try using a few proven ones for an hour or so. A friend of mine religiously uses then for an hour at the start of each session, regardless of weather, season etc. He's caught off the top in every month of the year and in the worst weather, blowing a hoolie, lashing down and in the middle of a blizzard. Got to be worth a shot for the buzz
  3. Thanks everyone, I'll take what you've all said into consideration. Its really helpful to have the 'toilets' confirmed, as opposed to me operating purely on rumour, thanks Mat. The good thing about my shifts is that I'm never in rush hour traffic, 0600, 1400 and 2200 being my changeover times, plus I'd use my Motorbike to get from home to the station (free parking usually! ). At least I know why the Canvey Island prices are depressed now too, thanks Sportsman Any more ideas/suggestions, as well as information would be much appreciated.
  4. This is why I have a motorbike I have a diesel car anyway but still save on fuel by using the bike, with the savings amounting to most of the running costs of the bike i.e.- MOT, insurance and tax.
  5. Surely they'd disintegrate when the dog washes itself...
  6. 17 Pike came whilst afloat on rowing boats. 2 Pike from the bank. 14 Pike and a lonesome Perch from my Kayak. So 33 Pike and a Perch, so far. All with lures. Now the close season is upon us, I hope to add some sea species to the list Again, by lure fishing only.
  7. There is the remote chance that I may be having to relocate for my job. Now I do love and hold very dear, Norfolk and Suffolk but the post I have applied for would have me based at Upminster. Looking around on Rightmove, I've come across a few areas that appeal from the house price front and with decent rail access. Unfortunately, some are in places that are usually on fire. One sticks out so far, Canvey Island. Hopefully, that gives you a good idea of how far out I'm willing to be. To narrow it down a bit, ideally I'd like an area that is: 1) Affordable. 2) Decent connections to Rail services. 3) Within about 45m/1hr road commute (off peak). Maybe 20-30miles max. 4) North to East of the M25, I do NOT want to be inside the M25 if I can help it. Any other suggestions or further info on Canvey Island and other places that may be suggested would be much appreciated. Good fishing nearby is a bonus but unfortunately, not essential
  8. Okuma FS Reels, excellent quality and reliability at decent prices. Got my light feeder rod, a 3 tip Leeda, brilliant for £10 of eBay. Caught everything from tiddlers (and seen the bite) to a 14lb Ghost Carp. My Carp PB On 4lb line too My Cormoran Black Bull HC 1-12g LRF/UL rod. £50 posted, brand new, absolutely beautiful action, ridiculously light, chucks up to a 7.5g jigheaded 4L kopyto with ease tbh.
  9. That's his point, Clive. It's also correct to an extent as all members of Cyprinidae are often referred to as 'Carp like fishes'. I think it's something to do with the pharangeal(sp?) teeth arrangement. I would say I am most definitely not a Carp Angler, targeting mainly spiny and toothy critters as I do, but even my method of fishing does and will not differentiate sufficiently to 'stop' me catching a Carp if one takes a fancy to a 1" or 2" grub. To be fair, I have nothing against Carp, but they don't interest me as a sporting fish despite their fighting ability. At the moment anyway...
  10. Trust me, I doubt anyone will assault me, I'm not the most approachable looking of people I get your point though But the rocks are where the fish are!!! Don't get the God reference, I'll be honest... I certainly do enjoy a good stealth paddle (hard in a bright yellow kayak though!). Thanks in advance for fighting our corner, even though I may not always agree 100% with your views, I appreciate the passion with which you are fighting for access for your sport. May I ask, What comes first for you? Canoeing/Kayaking or Fishing? Or are you of the mentally unsound and combine the 2 as I do?
  11. Best you start up a thread detailing your struggle for open access then, Andy! Then Elton can ban your @rse too! Seriously though, I think there will be a few interested parties and interesting discussion either way, just be prepared for not everyone to agree. For my part, I'm a recently diagnosed 'yak-aholic but I make do with stealth paddling as opposed to actually doing anything about the access issue, plus access is pretty good as far as I'm concerned, based on the Broads as I am.
  12. Sunday... I met several... I was in shock afterwards...
  13. Extrapolating from the data you received, Budgie, and assuming a static percentage (I believe that it's gone up slightly myself), thats over 700,000 Carp Anglers, or more correctly, people who like to fish for Carp. If only they all wanted some fancy new Fishouflage clothing, eh?
  14. The only time I'll ever see 90, is on my speedometer I have little faith either, in the religious sense anyway
  15. I love this sort of thing! Good for a chuckle anyway. Smoker- 20 Rollies a day. Drinker- Glass of Red/Finger of Scotch/Can of Cider/Beer regularly. Eater of- Red Meat, Processed Frozen Chicken and Fish, Pot noodles, Biscuits, Doughnuts, E-Numbers etc. Estimated time of death- Yesterday...
  16. I mainly use braid. I check often for fluffiness and trim as necessary. Every few months I reverse the entire lot. Maybe 3 reversals before total removal or use as backing for new braid. I burn what I discard when bank fishing in my kelly kettle. Afloat, top left pocket of my smock is the bin for all line I discard and find. Burnt at home. No landfill for that stuff. No way.
  17. Me, obviously in my Kayak, the others all on 'proper boats'. Wimps!!! 7 Jacks for me, seemed quite hard initially but it was one of those days that had bursts of activity by long, dull periods... Glad to have the company. Fantastic bunch of guys in the LAS, beautiful weather too Website blog has the full story and some shiny pictures if you're interested! One to wet your whistles... not much to most, but they ALL fight hard on UL gear!
  18. Hypothetically, Yes, I would Mark. But in reality, especially after talking to Mesi, no. Fishing is part of me, taking it from me changes who I am, but as regards short-term money gathering to enable me to 'go to her', big fat YES, everytime. My most treasured tackle is worthless except to me so that's no worry either Same goes for the kayak, motorbike and car. I'd live in a tent to get to her. You may all vomit now RE: Kens point, yes it's a possibility, you know this Mark. Go there though, just have your wits about you. If it goes pear shaped, buy some cheap gear and make Vagabond proud and the rest of us jealous! Talk soon mate. Andrew
  19. Well, I hope you do well mate. Certainly outshine that Realtree stuff it tries too hard for my liking. Will put a link on my website for you EDIT: I can't see prices for the Fishouflage gear mate? May be my work PC not showing stuff as it's heavily filtered though. Just a note.
  20. Nice work big man. 8 days from admirer to distributor it seems, very nice indeed!
  21. I've honestly no idea, I guess you could poke the nest and see if it gets a rise? But I am curious... Where were you promoting open Canoe access?
  22. Can't see the pics on the work PC but 13.12lb is a fantastic fish. It's great when you fish with a good friend(s), makes the dull spells whizz by and when you catch, the excitement and elation is shared. Absolutely brilliant report Darrell, hopefully see you come the autumn, already promised John I'd be back, this time thrashing the water with large, gaudy lures of all types in an effort to break my duck. Have a great time this weekend guys, wishing you all the best!
  23. Sorry to disappoint you Phone It needs a lot of work, my site, but it's constantly evolving to suit my habits and I'll get there in the end and trim off the fat. Need to work out what search terms are finding my site most often and re-double my efforts to provide quality over half-finished articles (RE: BFBC2 Guide ) Actually got a fishkeeping e-mail recently that I need to post up when the issue's resolved too.
