  1. @Cory- Went a bit overboard in your first post, but I get your point! (couldn't resist having a poke ) Davedave, I know what you are getting at. What you say is true in the literal sense but apart from overstocked commercials, they merely redress the true balance of an ecosystem. Without artificially high stock levels and anglers introducing food, I'm sure you're aware that the stock levels would fall naturally (without management) through starvation without any predation from Cormorants and Otters. I'd rather catch fewer, healthier fish from a 'natural' water with a full, balanced ecosystem, that lots of stunted fish or fish that have no choice but to eat your bait, as there is a deficit of natural food to sustain them all. With regards to EE anglers, I know many practice C&R, even in their home countries. But there will always be the minority who practice it for financial gain, EE or homegrown, who have an impact and usually use 'unsporting' methods such as netting and longlining. I can respect the right to eat what you catch within reason. I eat sea fish but not river fish. Why? I just prefer the taste... But if you want to eat Pike, you're allowed 2 a day, providing they are under 60cm long. Forgot the bag and size limit for 'other' fish. Just not allowed to eat Eels atm, until they recover a bit. They're the only fish I have noticed a real decline in.
  2. We're too young and aggressive for any Alien civilisation to purposely help us expand further into space! I reckon there is the possibility we're being watched though, sort of a nature reserve until they believe we're ready for 'official' contact. But I also read far too much Peter F. Hamilton...

Do they do waterproof/submersible tablets? Would be very cool to keep track of stuff for my diary etc, in situ... on my kayak... Don't want much, do I? Where are you then? I got the impression you were out Fakenham way from your sig.
  4. I did that once after a late night impulse/drinking session Never again, I felt as dirty as my mind

Just been looking at eReaders. Not sure if I want/need one yet. Can anyone convince me if they're any good/worth getting? I do read quite a lot. Don't know anyone with one personally. EDIT: Isn't there also a lot of stuff that is e-read only now? Thanks Kirisute, posted just after you, starting to sway me.
  6. That's not how they do it in Norfolk Cory! And lets face it, who wouldn't want gills and webbed hands, living in Norfolk? Damn good post mate.
  7. I'm on a lot when I'm at work (some funny post times too ). Go fishing 3-4 times a week when it's warm but still try to maintain 1-2 times a week during the colder months but it does depend on actual conditions and shift pattern (it always looks soo good when I'm working!!!). Out on the Kayak this afternoon, need to get accurate positions for the rod holders... and test my new seat!
  8. Doesn't suprise me at all. If it's not a dog or cat or other domestic pet, they'd rather leave it to die in my experience. They might come out for a Swan on occasion as they're 'pretty', but that's about it afaik. The guys and girls on the ground are generally great people and really do love animals. But you get through to an office worker who hasn't a clue and couldn't care less. I'll bet the message never even got through.
  9. There's probably dozens of missing planets tbh...
  10. I just confused my RE teacher by asking about the hydrodynamic propeties of the Ark. Cory, my first guess... The A stands for... Aardvark? It stands as you actually ARE an Aardvark, sent by God (the almighty prankster), to test our faith, much in the way that Dinosaur fossils are purported to... Am I close? NTARU, the most important question, is not whether Eve was created from a spare rib at all but; Was it marinaded first? And; What flavour? In all honesty, even though I am an Atheist, I do find the history behind the various religions interesting.
  11. I have fished them. Twice. I have blanked. Twice. I was legering/feeder fishing the first time. 2nd time I was lure fishing. I will be back. The Fens owe me fish! That is all...
  12. Tackle shop, no problem. Been in all the ones near me and only one is worth going to imo. The others don't have a sfriendly atmosphere as they used too. Only go, even to my favourite, when I need to now. Online however, I can get lost in online shops and eBayaholism should be a medically recognised problem. That I may have Bridges... even at speed I'll crane my head, just to see the water. I'll even stop and have a wander, even a cast or 2 if I've time on the way somewhere else, just in case. Who else keeps a small set-up, permanently in their car, y'know, just in case...
  13. I'd have been smiling my head off but you seem so bored with it all you're sneering at the cam. You smug git you! Seriously though, thats a great fish mate, 3 doubles this season too, thats good by anyone's standards I'd have thought. Need to sort out another fish-in on the fens later this year!
  14. I usually only fish stillwaters in the close season. There is too much river and so many broads around, it'd be a travesty imo, not to during the open season Honestly, I understand people fishing nice, generally larger lakes and ponds but not overstocked, highly commercialised ones. It used to appeal, when catching was #1 on my list, but alas, I'm getting older (not wiser) and seem to appreciate things a bit more. However, I'm approaching a bit of a crisis point as the close season looms... Am I going to have to lay down my lure rods to fish in freshwater? Only one canal in my area and it's subject to the close season and only one large estate style lake that I know will allow it, but it's quite a way away. I do still have the sea thankfully...
  15. Was told an easy way to get a pigeon breast out without the hassle. Push firmly on either side of the breastbone until the skin splits, then just 'fillet' them out. Only bit worth eating imo.
  16. Interested in the lures, solid and rubber. My name is Andrew and I'm a lureaholic. Could I have some pics please and a breakdown (as large or small lots)? Also, if you find any UL lure type gear... Anything up to a casting weight of 15g max. Nan is on morphine atm too, drink LOADS of fluids and eat a pack of fig rolls a day. That'll keep you moving mate.
  17. It was taking the pictures! Budgie and Dales, I know what you mean. Unfortunately it shouted back 'Not today matey!' Btw, this was on 6-2-12, a few days after armageddon struck it snowed a bit.
  18. Thermal kecks John! Should start rigging it tomorrow. Will attempt to do a step by step overview of it. I've a few cunning plans to solve a few issues that others may or may not have thought of too.
  19. Not all went to plan. Wanted to launch on the Upper Thurne and take a quick paddle round to Martham and annoy the deadbait boys but the temperature (a balmy -2C) had other plans 2" of ice greeted me at the slip and for as far as I could see up the river! Lets face it, if dogs are playing fetch on it, I doubt it's strictly navigable... Plan B it is then So I trundled up to a tiny little staithe called Belaugh. Now this place holds a special place in my heart as it's where I caught my first ever Pike, a savage beast of at least 5lbs but still the most memorable fish of my life This is the Yellow Peril on my (very dirty) car. Got an 'X-Rack' instead of roof bars. I use an 8 point anchoring system. A bit long winded atm, but I'll add some extra D-rings and reckon I can load up in less than 3 minutes then. About 10 mins atm. This is on the slip. As you can see, it's a very basic Kayak but has definite potential. Within a few hundred yards, I had my rhythm and found that with some determination, I could achieve around 6mph, with 3-4mph being a comfortable maintained pace. I think a back rest is in order though to support my lumbar as transmitting that force continuously through my backside via my back was quite telling. Here are a few random photo's of the loveliness that is the Upper Tidal Bure. And here are the muggers, caught just after the event. Far more threatening when you're eye to eye with them! Look, there was three of them, I have proof! I'd love to end this with the bonus of a christening Pike or Perch, but it was not meant to be today Regardless, I had a great time bonding with my Kayak, working out where to put rod holders and such. Plus, I have a name. Thanks to my knowledge of hungarian profanity, I have found something that fits. Bass Meg. In hungarian 'Baszd Meg' means 'F**k You' and I think that's appropriate as that's what I told the weather today, plus the mutilation of the word to reflect future plans to catch Bass for the table off the coast  Btw, the temperature on departure was 1C, so not too bad... However I have replaced my bum with an Arse-icle and expect to feel my feet again in the next few days! For those interested, I paddled from Belaugh Staithe to just past the entrance to Nortons Broad. About a 3 mile return trip by my reckoning.
  20. I've got a battle smock but mainly got it for the whacking great pockets and decent sized wired hood. I may have some blue marine/urban camo trousers though... Part of my biker gear!
  21. Got my 'weekend' weds and thurs this week. One will be consumed by fitting rod holders to my 'yak, t'other using it hopefully! Needs to be christened! Warm up damnit, and stop blowing from Norway!!!
  22. Jakub Vagner for me. However, I have met a few very good people lately and it is always a pleasure to fish with someone who you get along with so well. Time flies and you still have fun, even if you blank. So, non-celebs (lunchbreak legends )- NorfolkDipper, John Weddup, Steve Burke, Budgie, Dales, Anderoo, Rich and all the other guys I met @ Wingham and the Fen fish-in last year. Hope to meet a few more this year too. You've been warned!
  23. What I was getting at Phone (and Worms) that that is the usual layout for all British Anglers, rod in right, crank with left. Try eBay uk Phone, may possibly have a few more for you to select from over here? I'm just the same btw, got a nice little Abu C5501 from Budgie. May be getting an Okuma Tormentor soon though as it's ok on a heavier set-up but a tiny bit beefy for my roadrunner! Damn, more gear I HAVE to buy... Really need to sell a load of my feeder rods and reels. Might as well get rid of my deadbaiting gear too...
  24. I'm guessing that you use your left hand to wind/crank then Phone? And hold the rod in your right hand?
  25. Here of course, LAS Forum http://www.lureanglers.co.uk/forum/index.php and a regional kayaking forum, great bunch of guys- http://www.angliankayakangling.proboards.com/ Also on the Pikers Pit forum as well. Ebay, email and weather sites as required but more of a needs must than as enjoyment. Sometimes get lost in Wikipedia and YouTube...
