  1. I'm looking for a pair of trouser with reinforced knees, can anyone suggest a good name, I don't want overtrousers as I find them too bulky. Any ideas welcome.
  2. just bought a secondhand pole and one section had stuck inside another whilst stored, I've managed to get them apart but wonder is this caused by the sections not being cleaned and dried properly before storage. Should I be using a cleaner such as Maver or Garbolino Pole Cleaner or is it just down to good cleaning practices ? Advice would be appreciated.
  3. Red worms from my compost heap are great bait but very soft and can be torn off the hook (barbless ) fairly easily. I remember reading somewhere that you can toughen the worms skin by putting them in some slightly abrasive material but can't remember what it was. Any Ideas would be appreciated.
  4. Thanks guys for all your tips I'll have a go and let you knpw how I get on.
  5. I posted a few days ago that I was planning a trip to Argal reservoir for Bream. Fished on right hand bank when viewed from carpark. Weather was bright with a couple of showers, fished at 40yds. with groundbait and red maggot in feeder and maggot on hook.( good maggots from St Austell tackle shop near Aldi's). Caught all day (except when a cormorant went through my swim) nothing of any great size, fish up to 3lb. also some good roach taken on the drop. Maybe stocks are recovering. Will certainly try again
  6. I have an Allcock Perfection "Flick Em" centre pin, made in the 1940s I think. I want to clean it inside & out. Not sure of the metal it's made of, some sort of grey/silver coloured aluminuim alloy possibly. Any suggestions as to what to use as a cleaning agent/method to remove verdigris and hardened grease would be appreciated.
  7. Planning a trip to Argal as I've been told it has some good bream. any info. re. Hot spots or suitable baits would be much appreciated.
  8. In 50 years of fishing in Essex Co.Durham and the Cotswolds it wasn't until I moved to Cornwall that I was ever challenged and that at only one location, Lakeview Country club near Bodmin where you are required to show your licence at every visit. Sad show on the part of E.A. isn't it.
  9. More local fisheries are putting on bait restrictions. The latest to add is no paste! on this particular fishery the list of banned baits is:- no boilies frozen or shelf life, only powder ground bait, no cat meat, particles, nuts of any kind, pulses and now paste. Why do they object to so many baits, surely they need to attract anglers and as most of the sites we fish are attached to camping or caravan sites another income stream should be encouraged. I for one am not happy to fish without bait options. Does anybody else agree.
  10. I own a barbour Durham jacket about 20 yrs old. Worn at the cuffs but still perfectly serviceable. Re-waxed several times and used as ground sheet, dog jacket, infant sick catcher and occasionally as a jacket still as good as new.
  11. Always trying something different I am now grinding up dog mix bought loose from The Range. it mills down well and really works as a base for groundbait. at £1 odd a kilo its cheaper than proprietory brands ,Vitalin etc., and has similar ingredients. Also The Range small dog biscuit called "Trinkets"(£1.70 per.kilo) are great for surface fishing, I use them with a bait band, they stay on well and the carp love them.
  12. I fish small stillwaters for carp up to 20-30 lb. I am thinking of buying a specific carp rod to replace the general coarse rod I currently use, not sure what weight rod to buy ,I want to fish as light as possible but need anough beef to land a larger fish (ever hopeful) any advice would be welcome.
  13. I recently bought an 8ft brolly type day shelter from that well known auction site ae something, and I am delighted with it.However now getting into the carp scene I would like to convert it to a bivvy with a brolly wrap. I can only fine wraps/covers for 6ft.brollys. Do you know any manufacturer who makes an 8ft.wrap? or any suggestions to convert my brolly. tight lines. Essexboy
