  4. Hi, anyone familiar with River Thames around Penton Hook Island? Cheers.
  5. Hi guys, I managed to get my first session in last Saturday, and was suitably rewarded with this 9lbs beauty.
  6. I can confirm that at the moment there are still a few tickets left. But going fast The price this season remains at £40. There has been a lot of careful maintenance carried out on our waters this closed season. The venues and their associated swims are looking better than they have for years. £40 for three venues on the beautiful Upper Great Ouse in Bedfordshire, bargain!!!
  7. The price of a ticket for the 2015-16 season has been set at just £40. Same price as last season, offering exceptional value. Numbers are limited, apply for yours now at: Phoenix_angling.club@yahoo.co.uk
  8. Pure magic from the true legend, Mr Jack Hargreaves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGhUCGZ33nU O to spend a day in the countryside of my boyhood . . . . . . .
  9. Last season's ticket was only £40. I would suspect that next season's ticket won't be much different, if at all.

  11. As promised I have uploaded pics of the scales in situ. Not easy to see in the first pic. The third pic is of the swim itself. The location is on a Club section of the river Great Ouse above Bedford. My initial thoughts, given the swim & location were Chub or Barbel but thought I would ask the opinion of other forumites. Assuming it is Chub or Barbel, what size would you estimate? Thanks for all the responses so far. BR
  12. I should be returning to the same location tomorrow so, all being well, might be able to post a photo of the scales in situ for contextual purposes. By the way Vagabond, most interesting, informative and illuminating post. Thank you very much.
  13. Okay Guys, Think I've sorted it now and uploaded pics. I don't want to reveal which river as yet as it may bias opinions, but will do at a later date. In the meantime all opinions etc appreciated. BR
  14. Was out on the bankside yesterday when I came across a patch of scales, some 60 to 100 or so. I have attached some pics & I know it's a very long shot but does anyone here have an idea what species they came from? Sorry, website won't let me download photos. Neither of the were larger than 500k. Tried loads of times to no avail.
  15. Anyone else here recall a TV series in the early '70s called 'Angling Today' presented by Terry Thomas (not the comic actor)? Used to be on around 8am on Sundays if I remember correctly. Totally awesome in its day for a 12yr old lad. I would love to watch all the episodes again but think they've been lost to the mists of time.
  16. Tony Miles, demi-God of angling. C'mon Tony, been down the heart attack road meself! Take all the time you need to relax & recuperate. Listen to the doctors and follow their advice, you'll be back to your old self again in no time, doing what you do best.
  17. Damn . . . . . .curses, foiled again!
  18. Can anyone recommend a boilie flavour that will be good for carp & tench, but will be ignored by the crayfish or does no such boilie exist?
  19. Well, I wish that I was on the bank tonight in pursuit of the famous (on our fishery at least) Upper Gt Ouse Tench. Perfect night.
  20. Have you tried their website at www. alderfenfisheries.co.uk ? If the link doesn't work enter Alderfen Fishery into Google. Hope this helps.
  21. Got myself one of these rods, has anyone here used one? If so, what's the largest fish you've landed with it and how well did the rod cope? Was it with the Avon tip or Quiver? All feedback appreciated
  22. One thing I have noticed, in the last 6 years or so, is that the water quality has suffered. Where at one time the water would run gin clear during the summer months, the river now carries colour all the year round. This must surely have an effect? Any locals out there have any ideas as to cause of this colouring?
  23. What has happened to this once prolific stretch of water? 10 -15 years ago it used to be a Mecca for anglers in pursuit of large Chub and Barbel, but nowadays you never read anything in the weekly angling press about this water. Has the Upper Gt Ouse really fallen into such decline? If so, what are the reasons? Surely it can't be blamed on Otters and/or Comorants.
