  1. Any recommendations for a reliable hook for Grayling fishing I use a grain of sweetcorn or double maggot this fishing on EA freestretch so should be barbless what is the best size ? Using 16 or 18 at the moment. Cheers
  2. Taken it off, the rod is a keeper not spoilt for choice when it comes to17ft float rods.Water was getting between the plastic cover and the cork which is why it,s gone now.
  3. Hi Just bought a new float rod and have used it a few times and have no problem with the rod but the cork handel has a plastic cover on it is it best to leave it on or take it off. Ta
  4. Well my reel came back from the service department this time they have sorted it and have been using it trouble free for the past few months must say I do like the look of the reel now got the preformance to match shame it took Youngs three goes to get it right .
  5. These QM hooks was near a circle hook as I could find, it is the way the lines lies need it to be sitting on the back of the shank but coming through the eye for best hooking. Not fishing a hair but using these hooks for fishing Bread for Chub or Mullet
  6. Hi Have been using Guru QM hooks with plenty of sucess only problem is they need a knotless knot which means I have gone back to mono, any one know of a knotless knot or whipping I can use with fluorocarbon that is really reliable. cheers
  7. Got a Tri -cast Trilogy XS which I have been using for the past eighteen months and gets the thumbs up from me had some proper lumps on it.The main reason I like it are double rings all the way up to the top section and it,s light as a feather reel seat has not been an issue apart from needs regular cleaning or it gets a bit very sticky holds any one of my three centre pins securley.
  8. Oxford is looking the better bet what went wrong with the Kennet ?
  9. Hi I am looking for a day ticket or free stretch of river fishing anywhere between Reading and Oxford there will probably be three of us ideal water would hold plenty of Chub and Roach and not to difficult to fish as we are not very good at coarse fishing we would prefer to float fish .
  10. There are some Normark rod extensions on flebay at the mo,worth a look ?
  11. Sounds good but a frictionless reel would be a nightmare to use I will stick with light oil.
  12. To start with took line guard off but the screws when I put them back in were standing proud enough for line to wrap around them so my solution was to take the line guard to work and have the bars cut off leaving the base strip put the screws back in job done. Youngs service department has been good never asked them to replace the reel pouch but did ask for some screws to go in the holes left by the line guard let them know that I needed the line guard and screws as I would probably sending the reel back to get my money back as I was not happy. The bonus with Youngs is you get to speak to a human and he listen enought to try my test of putting shot on the line to find the tight spot . But it is all not good news as it has cost me three sets of postage .
  13. I am looking for a short float rod between 11ft and 12ft for dealing with Mullet think Barbel in tight spaces . My main float rod is Tri cast but they are not cheap will be used on running waters if this makes any diference any recomadations?
  14. My reel is finally back from Youngs looks like they have changed the hub and spindle and is now the reel it should have been, 4 no 4 shot set it in motion with no more tight spots . Love the traditional look of this reel but the acid test will be when I have used it a few times. Youngs have given me a new soft reel case lost mine first time out and a new line guard with screws after I cut the bars off the old line guard Youngs have also fitted some shorter screws so have no holes were the line guard was.Would like to say I am a happy bunny but why did it take three goes to get right .
  15. Much the same for me I back my reels with 75yards of low diameter braid and about 40yards of mono get two or three sessions out of this because I cut the last 5 yards of mono each time. Know the modified Albright knot will happily go through the rings if needed but know the line damage is caused by casting as yet to have give line to any Coarse fish I have managed to hook. Also tried spraying my line with Silicon lubricant ( srew fix ) which did not make any difference apart from making the line float nicely, I prefer the Diawa ST mono the come in large spools. Summer time can find me casting 10 gram controllers I love surface fishing .
  16. Think the main problem stems from pre loading the rod before casting, the line is pulled at extreme angle over the tip ring to set the reel in motion this must cause a lot of friction only solution Ican see would be a completely different top ring guide something on the lines of a Tulip top ring which can be found on Seafishing inline rods. All my centre pin reels have solid spools so I just load more line than the usual 30 yards for trotting and cut out the last 5yards after every session .
  17. It does not seem to matter what rings are on my rod if I play a fish hard or going for it casting the line will kink and look like a curly pig tail normally in the top two sections It does not seem to weaken the line but causes line wrap. Tried quite a few lines none make any difference the only thing that stopped it was using braid but even the new 8 braids still do not cast as well as mono think this more a centre pin thing than a rod ring problem
  18. Not a fan of leaving any rod with single leg rings in a sleeve made up ,all that happens with me is eventualy they get bent out off shape and snap. Lovely looking blanks but fittings look too fragile for a clumsy git like me .
  19. Used power gum link when fishing braid on my pin but this did not help with losing Grayling what really made the difference was going to a size sixteen hook
  20. As we speak reel has been sent back Youngs for a new hub and spindle but I do not hold out much hope of it being sorted as this will be the third time. Let youngs know all they have to do is put five no 4 shot on the line and set the reel in motion it always stops in the same spot and will need a gentle tug to set in motion again. Been playing with a lot of centre pins in tackle shops from antique Aerials to Hardys and Youngs bearing reels and they are all free running with no tight spot. Reckon this is a Lemon Also noticed the tackle shop that I bought it from is now asking for full price now for there Atoms whichis hundred quid more than I paid for mine
  21. It is the one run most of the time by a lady was in there today stocking up on hard to find floats you have until the end of January to get down there floats already starting to thin out some bargains to be had.Had a play with an antique Allcocks could not believe how free running it was but it weighed a ton men must have been men in those days.
  22. Must sress it was Avon angling in Ringwood with the closing down signs and not Ringwood tackle. He was selling a second hand Hardy Conquest which looked a nice reel allthough the plastic check lever looked naff.
  23. Was in Ringwood tackle over Christmas they had an Atom seemed much more free running than mine, Owner looked less than pleased when I told him the problems I had with mine and other users.Avon Angling had closing down signs in the window looks like another decent tackle shop going to the wall. Why would you have the line coming off the top of a centre pin is it even possible to Wallis cast like this never found rings make much difference our not so you notice given the choice would go for high stand offs and more double legged rings always found single match style rings fragile which has put me off Drenman rods. King pin do make a true pin but it is for the steelhead market and it is an ugly mother in my opinion they also make some interesting looking float rods that looked worth a go .
  24. Mine is one of the first 25 probably why it was so cheap Youngs must have got rid of them to a discount fishing tackle dealer.
  25. It just gets better I contacted the tackle shop that I bought it from to let them know I wanted a refund and they refused and contacted Youngs who are now offering to fit a new hub and spindle. Can the tackle shop refuse to give me a refund, if I say the product is faulty there argument is there might be nothing wrong with the reel but is not doing what I want from it and I have unrealistic expextations of it. So it comes down to youngs if they say there is nothing wrong with it no refund can they do this ?
