  1. Evening all . Been down to the river again today , and it is still pea soup but the water levels have dropped significantly . I am going to give it a few days to see if it clears and then give it a bash with some cheese paste and maggots as suggested . fingers crossed . kind regards Sam
  2. Cheers for the replies guys . The river in question is between 2 and 3 metres wide and varies from 2 to 6 foot deep when levels are normal , it does have a few nice bends in it but due to the location on the edge of the levels it is a muddy bottomed river and generaly very over grown with weed etc . With the extra water it becomes a very fast paced river with no chance of float fishing and with all the weed it would be a very snaggy affair . I know my view of it is very negative but just being realistic . As soon as it starts to ebb I will be down there Kind regards Sam
  3. Evening all . I have been visiting my local stretch of river since the snow melt . It went all murky after the melt and then started to clear for a few days , and now since the rain it has turned to muddy soup again but worse . Been itching to get on the bank after I have learned of a few spots on the river . Over christmas had a right sort out of all my gear and planned a few trips , but just can not bring myself to spend money on bait only to fish pea soup . Roll on the water clearing !!

Thanks for that Anderoo and the warm welcome . It does make sense so dont worry . I am primarily fishing in ponds which are slightly coloured as all I have in my area is muddy puddles LOL , or the occasional trip to my local river which does fun clear through the summer but during flood or winter tends to run a murky brown . The ponds I fish are pritty good for lack of weed but do have reed margins and areas of lillys . The rivers how ever are very weedy and have plenty of weed and other plant life . I have had to go down and cut the weed back in a swim days before just so I can get a hook near the bottom . I tend to fish meat baits like luncheon meat mainly in cubes about 1" square and some times bigger as they seem to take it . I really target carp the moment as I find them to be very sporting and a beautiful fish when out the water . I do intend to target some tench in the new year but as a whole it is carp . Once again many thanks for the help guys and your help is really appreciated . kind regards Sam
  5. Ziggy , perhaps in the new year we could meet up on the bank some time , one venue I would like to try is the river that passes through hambridge as it looks half decent . I will pm you my details when my pm facility is up and running . Kind regards Sam

  8. Hi all , a bit if a newbie question . I have searched the interwebnet for an answer but have found no real definitive answer ,I am sure that there is no real answer but it is down to personal preference . so here goes I currently use shop made hair rigs which are normaly about 10" long . When I fit my weight I set it as a sliding weight , But my question is what is the preferred distance between bait and weight , I normaly set it at abour 2 foot . Is this right or wrong ???? Thanks in advance for any help Kind regards Sam
