  1. Ballywillin Lough Coarse Fishery ( Co Down N.Ireland ) has been kind enough to allow a free days fishing for two as a prize for a " Guess the weight of the fish " competition. This will be run every month on both http://www.fishireland.info & http://www.ballywillin.co.uk Ballywillin is a mixed species fishery containing Carp, Tench, Bream, Rudd, Perch, Pike and Eel all with fish at specimen weights. Good Luck to all who enter
  2. Fish Ireland Info is running a competition to win a free days fishing for two at Ballywillin Lough Coarse Fishery ( Crossgar ). Ballywillin has got to be one of the best mixed species coarse fisheries around with Carp. Bream, Rudd, Tench, Perch, Pike and Eels. The staff have kindly allocated the "Double Stand" for the two lucky anglers, and if your a novice don't worry whichever species you target help and advice from the staff will help you get the most from this excellent water. For details on both the competition and the Fishery itself have a look at Fish Ireland Info http://www.fishireland.info

  6. Hi Newt, Stick with it mate I only started Pole fishing a year and a half ago, the quivertip & feeder is my fave method as you can roll a ciggy and have a coffee, but have been to a few places where a pole is definitely and advantage if not a must have. I know what you mean about needing more arms but as I am purely a leisure angler I can afford to and don't mind setting the pole to one side for 5 mins for a quick cuppa. One word of advice , a pole roller makes life sooooo much easier, and saves you damaging the pole on the bank when shipping back, it certainly made it much easier and more enjoyable for me when I started. BTW I think we all start off catching those little fish that tend to launch themselves st the sky when hooked, I know I did
  7. Can you podt a pic or the model number to check out the spec's.
  8. At long last a new Fishery has opened in N.Ireland which although is a mixed species fishery, it has just undergone a Carp stocking programme. Finally we have a fishery that isn't a fished to death lake or a big money syndication water, enabling all anglers to have a try for quality Carp. Although relatively new it has already been featured in several magazines with excellent reviews. Have a look in http://www.fishireland.info and check out the Ballywillin Lough Fishery section. If I can help anyone in any way with regards to this fishery contact me, or the fishery owner. Bream to 11 lbs, Rudd to over 3 1/2 lb, lots of Tench to over 5 lb, with Leather, Common, Mirrors, Crucians etc all at decent weights.
  9. I have caught a 2lb+ Roach but never a Carp, I suppose it comes down to the individual, again I stress the word SOME fly anglers are more about having a 4x4, wearing the right clothes, and wearing the top brand names outfits. SOME shore anglers have the same attitude, as do SOME coarse, deep-sea, specimen etc anglers. It's the same in most walks of life, is the attitude and how its percieved. Me personally I think they're all FISH
  10. Ballywillin Lough Fishery is a recently opened water which has become instantly popular with many anglers in N.Ireland. It has resident Bream to 10lb 14oz, Stocked Carp into upper double weights, Tench to near 6lb and Rudd wieghing in at over 3 1/2 lb. So for all you anglers thinking of visiting sometime have a look at the section in http://www.fishireland.info featuring Ballywillin Lough.
  11. Sorry to say this but it sounds like the head gasket has gone, you didnt mention which kind of car you have, Most cars now have alloy heads and you probably will need to get the head skimmed. But depending on the warp in the head, if its been skimmed before, you may need a second hand head. If your head does need skimmed and it can be, you should maybe think about fitting a set of valve stem oil seals when the head is off. This cuts down, if not stops that little bit of smoke some cars have for the first few miles. If you keep driving it you may crack or warp the head beyond use, and I have seen cars crack liners and engine blocks due to being kept driven when overheating resulting in needing an engine fitted Don't Drive it as doing this will only cost you more money. Hope it gets fixed quickly and cheaply ... and I hope it isnt a Rover or Renault All cars are bloody bottomless money boxes aint they.
  12. I have seen this a few times but not with pure skimmers more with small Roach/Bream Hybrids of skimmer size on the Upper Bann.
  13. Condolances to you Rufus for your loss. I would like to say that I am also sick of hearing about "Freak Waves" There's no such thing .... its just a wave that foolish people fail to notice due to ******* about and not paying attention. The sea should not be feared or laughed at but respected .... too many anglers and people are lost through foolishness or lack of attention. I have lost friends and it wasn't the seas fault, it only does what it has and will always do.
  14. Step 1 : buy a kite Step 2 : buy PVA string and bags Step 3: fill the bag with bait ...tie to the kite .. place your hook in the bag...fly the kite over swims too far out to cast to .... Step 4 : Drop the kite ... reel the kite in when the PVA should have dissolved. You are now fishing swims others cant get to ... Its used when beach casting in Africa y not coarse ... worth a try That way you still get to go fishing ( or perhaps just go to the pub ) and had a valid explanation for the missus as to why you're going
  15. Sorry all What can I say I was havin a few bevvies etc.. and got carried away !!! OOOOOOOPS !!! Didn't mean to upset anyone ... & hope I haven't Once again 1000 apologies to all concerned
