  1. All this talk of Carp in the wild growing to massive proportions!!! How come we are constantly told, by the people who have fish for sale, that 'Wildies' rarely achieve weights of more than about 10 lb??? See you all on September 22nd http://www.march-info.org Jim Roper http://www.searchlineuk.com/FishList.htm [ 30 May 2002, 01:16 PM: Message edited by: Jim Roper ]

    Catfood

The fish in my pond are crazy about Coshida dry cat food. £1.99 for a big bag from LIDL.Some biscuits have got a hole in that is big enough to thread a hook through, add a bit of bread dough to make it sink. At the moment I am giving the fish in a newly dug pond, corned beef from LIDL at 39P a tin to make up for the lack of natural food. The fish are realy keen on that also. I put it in the shallows to see what happens. An hour later there is little left of a whole tinfull (in 1 lump). 11. About 18 years ago I dug out a pond for shooting ducks and gradually made it bigger over the following years. 7 years ago we put in 4 Carp (biggest about 6 lb) and about a dozen baby Rudd. Year later I put in just over 100 Tench. The Carp and Rudd seemed to have spawned every year since and people have shown an interest in fishing the place. I've only ever seen 1 Tench caught (2 years ago) so I expect the birds might have done for most of them, but the biggest Carp so far was 19 lb 2 oz last year. Just before Easter I dug out some more ponds and have gradually been transferring the smaller fish (carp under 5 lb)to them. If anybody wants to bring the kids along and get them 'hooked' on fishing you can reckon on catching hundreds of small rudd in an afternoon. You will probably have the place all to yourself. If anyone wants to buy a few fish and can arrange the appropriate movement license, then give me a call. It's just outside WEYMOUTH, not quite within casting distance of Chesil. You can park up a caravan for a few days and there are two farms next door that will cater for them longer term. 13. Egons come in all sizes and feel much heavier as you retrieve them, due to their action in the water. The Abu Prisma is not as effective but will cast a lot further. Jim Roper
  14. Eype is always worth a try. Walk towards Seatown and be prepared to get cut off by the tide for a few hours (unless it's changed over the 30 years since I was last there). The bass used to be within feet of the shore amongst the rocks (skin-diver's info). See you all on September 22nd http://www.march-info.org Jim Roper
  15. I used to have a Spindrift Bass rod by B James until I was burgled. It was rated to cast up to 3.5 oz. I don't know if they are still around. They were tied up with Bruce and Walker I think. Used it off Chesil Beach and around most Dorset beaches with an ABU 5000C and 8-10 lb line as well as from boat. It had a nice stiff tip all right and cast a 1 oz ABU Krill a long way. See you all on September 22nd. http://www.march-info.org Jim Roper [ 27 May 2002, 06:49 AM: Message edited by: Jim Roper ]
  16. The best session I have ever had was with 7 oz. ABU egons. In 75 mins two of us caught 27 Bass that averaged 7.5 lbs in the Portland Race, but that was in the good old days of '76 when the shoals of Bass blotted out the bottom on the echo sounder. Live baiting (poorcod or smelt) is the most reliable way to catch Bass. Two of us had 84 lb of Bass (16 fish) one evening in the entrance to Portland Harbour, but then again that was over 20 years ago. Jim Roper http://www.searchlineuk.com/FishList.htm

  19. You're right about Chesil. Walk up to a place opposite the Chickerell MOD rifle range and cast into the deep water there. I've NEVER been there without catching something, but that was years ago. See you all on September 22nd. http://www.march-info.org Jim Roper [ 26 May 2002, 07:01 PM: Message edited by: Jim Roper ]

  21. Simon!! There is a simple way of deciding whether it's time to get up. Lie perfectly still in a comfortable position (no part of your body feeling cold) with your eyes closed. Count slowly to 200 at about 1 second intervals. If you move at all, restart the count. When you have got to 200 it is time to get up. You won't get any of the problems associated with getting up in a hurry. If you have fallen asleep before you get to 200, it is not time to get up. Try it on Sunday morning first. If this test results in you getting up too late, then go to bed earlier. Jim Roper

  23. A few years ago I was burgled and most of my rods were stolen. One was in as new condition and had never been used since I bought it 30 years before. It was a Webley and Scott coarse rod that I was going to use for mullet fishing. Such a rod would probably be of interest to collectors but I suppose it was sold for a few quid for a drug fix. I would be interested to know if anybody has ever seen a rod of the same make anywhere, though there's no much hope of identifying it. Also stolen was my Spindrift Bass rod by B James and sons. Lord only knows what the replacement costs would be now!! Jim Roper

  25. Simon! The HEX values you want are 99 (ascii 153)for the o with 2 dots and 9A (ascii 154)for the u with 2 dots. These are for CAPITALS, deduct decimal 6 from each figure for lower case. It's on page D2 of the City & Guilds Networks module documentation (Module 227). Jim Roper [ 24 May 2002, 03:23 PM: Message edited by: Jim Roper ]
