  1. The USA obviously. Face facts the UK is a small island and there are not enough good waters and too many anglers. Plenty of muddy holes though which tell a story !
  2. I'd never use fully barbed trebles. yuck! Just the 1 for keeping the deadbait on. I try to keep away from the triples barbed on spinners\ lures, always flattening them. As for normal single hook fishing, barbless, but that's another subject! Shall I start a barbed vs barbless topic!
  3. Personally, I woudn't be against Keepnets being banned, in all but say matches. On the other hand, used properly I think they are fine, so why should they be banned? but there are so many uneducated or some who just can't be bothered anyway. Take your pick. Whatever, I think it's important we make using keepnets correctly an important issue.
  4. Environment Agency urges anglers to help protect fish in summer heat Written By: Lyn Fraley On Date: 27/7/2006 The Environment Agency is appealing for experienced local anglers to help protect fish in rivers and pools from suffering during the hot weather by spreading good practice among fellow anglers and discouraging the use of keep nets. In two recent incidents at Shrewsbury and Tenbury Wells, fish are believed to have died because they were kept unnecessarily in keep nets. Fisheries Technical Officer Andy Roberts said “Unless you are taking part in a competition, keep nets are just not necessary and, in these hot weather conditions, they can cause fish to die, either in the net or shortly after release. “The rivers are quite low and the water temperatures are warm. These are not good conditions for fish to be kept in keep nets and we would ask anglers to think whether putting fish into a net is really necessary.” “Experienced and responsible local anglers will already know this, and can really make a difference by spreading the word among fellow anglers, especially visitors who may not know the damage that badly used keep nets can do.” River levels continue to fall during the recent very warm and dry weather. Warm, shallow water holds less oxygen, leaving fish vulnerable to stress, suffocation and disease. This is especially true of shallow water near the banks where keep nets are used. With low river levels, the water may barely cover the fish and keep nets allow no escape from the discomfort. As well as the increased risk of suffocation and disease, distressed fish may struggle and damage themselves. Andy Roberts added: “No responsible angler would want to cause distress to fish. We urge anglers to return fish to the water as soon as possible.” MORE INFORMATION Contact Lyn Fraley on 0121 711 5829/5855 (these numbers can also be used during an emergency to contact a duty press officer) Lets hope these anglers take note: Bill " Of course we musn't pay any attention to this as it would weaken our """"Unity"""" !
  5. Harrison also have some shorter rods.
  6. As an angler, if I was walking along the path and there was a Pole sticking out across the path, I would of course ask the angler to kindly remove it, if he didn't I would boot it as hard as I could! If cycling was allowed along this path why should I have to stop and get off my bike?
  7. Chane my line every year, and more if necessary. If you get lots of takes, lots of screaming drags, the mono will soon turn into a coily mess.
  8. Free spirit do some good shorter carp rods if you really must have a short rod.
  9. What?! Replying to the first\title post here. What difference does it make how short you are? If you limit yourself to short rods you are limiting your angling (pleasure) . Maybe you are not letting enough line out when landing\casting?
  10. Well said Hermes. The event was a good example for all.
  11. I don't see there is anything wrong with Keepnets as long as they are used sensibly... Just common sense obviously. Those who *stack them* , then when come to release the fish hours later, or just plain keeping any fish in there for too long. Then come to release time, find one or two float to the top, probably with torn fins etc.... Used sensibly, I am not so sure Keepnets are such a big issue myself. I feel sacking large Carp for hours is wrong, and I would certainly ban sacking if I owned my fishery. Similar to that, I read recently of a big Carp that died to due some p**ck who had it out the water too long taking 'snapshots' etc. 20 mins apparently. One word... Tw*t . Once again it boils down to greed 'cause people want more, more. Just my opinion.
  12. Clueless KNUCKLEHEADS. Shot ourselves in the foot... exactly!
  13. To all you who were FOR the lead ban or anything else that would save much wildlife around the banks we fish ... you are all a disgrace 'cause you disunite Angling!... LOL what a complete load of rubbish! We should debate, discuss all the time on how we can improve Angling. We should all be open minded! Regarding Live Baiting, ok agreed slightly different... To be truthful I am neither for or against it. In my opinion if the governing bodies ever decided live baiting was to be banned in England, I feel as a body we would be better off just rolling over and accepting it (I won't go into why, not worth it) and to be honest, so what if we lost livebaiting? Does it really matter. Go back to my 'greed' point here. Why do we need to be so greedy. It would hardly be a big loss losing livebaiting. Some predator anglers will destroy me now, but I really don't think it's a 'biggy' . Many use deadbaits or spinners nowadays anyway. I feel there may be times angling needs to adjust slightly to certain things in the future.
  14. Unity argument.... Junk. We are united , we all want to fish and stand together. There is nothing wrong with debate on how we can strengthen our sport, and one of those is obviously to become friendly to nature around us. Crying 'disunity' when we try to do this is obviously going to do more harm than good. If we are made to look like a group who ruin the environment around us (which we don't at THE MOMENT) , then we need to address these issues. The lead ban was obviously one of them. What idiot here was against the lead bann .. some tw*t. Is that disunity then?, or changing for the better? Some people are just plain greedy and selfish and not prepared to budge. Wake up some of you complete bone idle Knuckleheads.
  15. What's all this 'united' stuff that's always been written. All us anglers enjoy fishing and want the sport to continue. Those who go on about us not being united are just disappointed that everyone has different opinions to theirs. We are obviously united in that we all want to fish so get over it. And we all have different opnions on how we feel will make our sport stronger, less liable to losing it. For me, that is not being too greedy and decimating nature around us. All Leads should obviously be banned, as should livebaiting. But that is just 'my opinion' . As for this Swan story I woudn't believe anything the BBC write nowadays anyway... bunch of....
