Does anyone know where you can get books printed that include colour photos throughout the text rather than in a colour plate section. A number of fishing books have done this: examples are John Harry's 'Savay' and Rob Maylin's books. I have tried several book printers without luck. The only solution so far is to go for full colour litho quality print which is prohibitively expensive and not viable for the project in question. Any suggestions/advice would be greatly received. I'll try and contact everyone by pm over the next two days regarding possible content. In the meantime I would be grateful for any feedback/thoughts on the above. Alan, It's inspiring stuff and would be delighted to include it. I think there are now eight of us: John Clarke, Newt, Alan Pearce, Chris Plumb, Leon, Surfacepopper, Alan Taylor and myself. With regard to content and structure, I will try to put together a first ‘aunt sally’ outline for everyone who has agreed to contribute, to comment and add ideas to.

A good thread Steve. A book by John Wilson's cameraman might be an interesting read. And real stories from commercial fishfarms, netting operations and importers could be educational? Otherwise anything by the unsung Broadsmen and Fensmen of the last fifty years would find a place on my bookshelf (as do the recommendations you give on your site!)

Leon, It's great to have you on board. Given the quality of your 'River bank' poem, we might have to revise the predicted sales figures!

John, Sorry for the delay in responding but I’ve been off-line for a few days. Essentially, my motivation for this project is to get a book into print so that the new publishing business has a published example. I am not worried if it doesn't breakeven and realistically don't expect it to. The main thing is to produce something that the contributors can be proud of and that might help to promote the new business. This is why I thought it would be nice to make it a forum exercise and donate any royalties to Elton's running costs fund. If it only sells 30 copies it doesn't matter, although with the quality of the contributors here you never know. It will also be available on Amazon (both UK and US) so perhaps Nugg can promote it across the pond! Regards Dreamer

Chris, Surfacepopper, do you think we have enough material? I'm happy to do this with just 3-4 of us although it would be nice to have sufficient material to allow the book to logically hang together. As I indicated before, this isn't a commercial exercise, I just want to get a project on the books and think it might as well be something that I'm interested in. I would be grateful for your thoughts. Regards

I know someone who had a low twenty cat from the Great Ouse and they will vouch for the awesome fight that ensues when they're hooked! Newt, it would be great to include tales from 'across the pond'if you're happy to contribute. Johnclarke, I'm also sure there is a place for brief stories like yours. I do see this as a forum project and wouldn't personally want to dictate what goes in. I'm happy to contribute my editing thoughts but there are others here that are far more skilled in this area than I will ever be. Perhaps a small editing group? I think realistically we need somewhere between 20 and 30 reasonable stories/pieces to fill a book, with a number of 'shorts' to add further interest. Taking the loose headings: pleasure, absurdity, frustration, serendipity and occasional euphoria We are off to a good start, but will need quite a few more contributions if it is to work. Has anybody else got a story to tell? A favourite swim, time of year, character, species, bizarre happening, success from defeat, surviving the elements, big fish, small fish, angling philosophical enlightenment, red letter day etc etc. Thoughts of all, most welcome. Any Budding Writers? I have a small publishing business and am looking to expand from the academic texts that I currently deal with. I would like to publish a collection of fishing stories and wondered if anyone would like to contribute? I don't think the book should necessarily look for the monster catches but rather stories that convey the pleasure, absurdity, frustration, serendipity and occasional euphoria that angling gives us. I would also like it to cover a wide range of species eg from the humble gudgeon through to, say, the hapless burbot expedition. The book could include illustrations but not colour photos (b/w are possible). However the cover could include colour photos if necessary. It would be nice if this could be an Anglersnet project and whilst it is unlikely to be a commercial success I would propose donating any royalties to Elton's web fund. All rights would remain with the authors. The book will be listed on Amazon with picture etc and everybody could give it reviews on the Amazon site. The intention is that it should be a bit of fun. No one is expecting contributions to rival Chris Yates and co! Contributions could range from a few paragraphs to a few thousand words; the odd poem might also be included? I would appreciate any thoughts.

Pretty depressing that such short-sighted views still exist. I've had zeds to 12lb 10oz and they look quite awesome in the light of a headtorch as they come towards the net. There were illegal stockings in a number of lakes in my part of the world in the seventies and what followed was a temporary explosion of small zeds which very soon stabilised (2-3 years) with no adverse effect to the fisheries. To this day all produce good match results with all stages of fish represented. If anything, it is the predator balance that alters as nature settles things down. If you get a chance, fish for them, they are very impressive fish when you see them close up.
