  1. Still Water angling by Richard Walker. I've just bought a copy via Ebay and have never read this title before. Early days yet but already very interesting. He really was good at writing.....
  2. Bradford, I think you're thinking of the spotty season (Brown Trout). I'll be having a go for Rainbows myself up at Embsay Reservoir this Sunday.
  3. The day that fish stop spawning on the 15th June is the day that I would accept the close season as a good idea. For much of this last 'Summer' looking at the rivers alone you would be hard pushed to tell if we were not in deepest Winter. Personally, I wouldn't be suprised if Mother Nature starts lending a helping hand to the fish stocks in our rivers by continuing the spawning later and later into the year to rebalance the loss of all the fry washed away into the seas by the summer floods now seen as the 'norm'.....
  4. How long did you say you had to wait for delivery Spindle?
  5. Excellent, thanks for that Spindle. Only problem is that I can't turn up the volume sufficiently but that's down to the laptop I think.
  6. Tyke, not a bad car you've gone for I'm sure. We used to have a 405 diesel estate....boring old jallopy. Swapped it for a Subaru Forester. Economys is out of the window granted, but the wife is happy, two kids and a Bullmastiff fit in nicely and it's pretty good fun to drive to boot. Only get to drive it a weekends really but it's a great tonic after plodding around in my works Discovery Van (Diesel) all week long......!!
  7. I see the magic in my little Daughters eye when she looks up at the Christmas lights part paid for by the likes of Woolworths. And on Christmas morning. And at the Pantomime. And when she's playing with all her Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles and Cousins over the holiday....etc, etc...I like Christmas.
  8. String Roy Keane up by his B@lls.......and then some more....!!
  9. Eileen, you sound like my Mother.....I bet they (the decorations...!!!) come down on the 3rd..??
  10. Why, in the 21st Century, does that most vicious and injurious of articles, the Corned Beef tin, still exist...???????
  11. Thanks for that JohnS, much appreciated. I'll have a scout around next week to find the necessary things to give it a go, but I think I might have had a good idea for the wife on what to buy me this Christmas. Cheers
  12. Some would say there were too many millions wasted on keeping her in custody in the first place....me included!
  13. Same here in Bradford...good 'innit?

Is this the same rally of Great Britain which is held only in Wales..?? Oh for the days of Integrales hurtling through Kielder.
  15. European Commission The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5-year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English." In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c." Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of the "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with the "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter. In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the rem! oval of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away. By the 4th yer, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v". During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontain! ing "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru. If zis mad yu smil, pleas pas on to oza pepl.

  18. Newt, ongoing practicals certainly agree with the opening research findings The secondary scenario hasn't manifested itself around these 'parts'.....but here's hoping
  19. Hope so, cheers Elton.
  20. Vagabond, that's pretty much how I see the RSPB as well. I think we'll continue membership for now. As you say they have some first class walking territory up in Scotland which are enjoyable to visit not only for the Birds.
  21. Having now found easily available frames which I think are suitable for mounting home tied flies. Can anybody advise me of the best way (or the way they use) for actually mounting them? Thanks
