  1. Pikemaster39, Let me get this right. Are you saying you use front and back alarms? Interesting theory that, up until now my PS's, when properly set up with open bail arm, have been used with full confidence for sensitivity/drop back indications but maybe my MMX's will have a use over the Winter after all. Cheers for that.
  2. dave_h, The trouble with most of that lot (In my experience) is that I get most upset when one of those lovlies lands three inches above the water line on the far bank and refuses to let go it's hold........I now stick to the Big S and it's like on overgrown rivers.
  3. Fox Micron PS's. You won't go wrong with these and they're much cheaper now than when I bought mine
  4. Anyone want to buy a Shakespeare Team Box....???
  5. No problem Peter, don't mind me. Maybe I misinterpreted the original post but I read it as though it was not on to fish for Pike in the Summer although I guess he was trying to say no to deadbaits. Now I thought that Summer spinning was one of the fastest growth areas in the sport. I, for one, thoroughly enjoy a couple of hours with a lure rod after work on those balmy evenings. BTW did we ever get to the low oxygen level state? We didn't seem to get much of a hot Summer around here with lashings of rain oxygenating the waters nicely. Tight lines.
  6. Before we go too far down this road let's remind ourselves of the original statement. We were advised not to FISH for Pike in the Summer. Now we seem to be backtracking somewhat from that don't we?....let's just be carefull with our, well intentioned, advice. Nearly time to get the deadbaits out....Yes!!
  7. Peter, ditto your last sentiment. As to the large fish, that angler is probably feeling very bad about this unfortunate incident but he probably would had it 'only' been a jack as well.
  8. I haven't seen the article myself so I'm not totally 'au fait' with this unfortunate occurance. However, it seems to me from the posts here that there may be many reasons why the creature came to have a trace in its throat. I do my very best to treat all fish I catch with the utmost respect but I have been snapped off many times over the years as, I expect, you all have. It's not clever to jump to conclusions without knowing the facts. And what is this cr@p about not fishing for Pike in summer?
  9. I arranged to go fly fishing with two mates yesterday at Coniston Cold near Skipton. Coniston Hall is owned by Mr. Bannister of Boundary Mills fame who, apparently, was attending the march in London. One of my mates arrived late and paid for his fishing at the hotel when Cherie Blair walks past him and goes into the lobby. Strange that, they had just had a country type event over the last few days with lots of brand new Land Rovers being put through their paces. Is this coincedence, hypocrisy or a P.R. exercise to let the Craven and Pendle people know that their pastimes are safe??
  10. I bought a set of Waymasters (the model which weighed up to 20lbs was it?) on the strength of press reports claiming them to be accurate. It might be that my one was a rogue one but it weighed woefully low. It was binned. I now have my second set of Avons - Excellent...! But I do like the look of those self zeroing digitals.
  11. I'm not telling anyone where my favourite Gudgeon swim is..............!!!!
  12. Depends on how far I've got to walk......
  13. I've made no serious logs/records or studies into this, but I know from experience that if I'm night fishing in Summer for Chub and there's a full moon I'm not going to catch much......
  14. I've got loads of expensive type lures now but I always seems to go back to my favourites, the cheap and very effective Big/Middy 'S' from Shakespeare.
  15. quote: Originally posted by M.K: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by Peter Waller: Perhaps you could suggest that he takes up carp fishing instead, they make much better eating! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I disagree to that, I have eaten both pike and carp and have found the pike to be the tastiest, but not as nice as Zander -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- But eels are even better Perch baked in herby butter is better stilL.....BTW this was in Germany in an area where all fish caught are supposed to be killed.
  16. Alright........1,143,430 anglers potentially would stand up to be counted (minus some who hold two licences). I would suspect that just a few more would suddenly cough up the readies and purchase the licence they have been avoiding for years so that they could also have a legitimate voice. I would also suspect that there may be a few 'occasional' or 'used to be' anglers who would take offence that Angling was under threat who would swell the ranks. Plus, of course, the parents of the aforementioned under 12's who possibly would feel it was an afront to their kids to have their hobby banned. All in all the total could be approx.................5 Million.
  17. I personally think that that the c5 Million anglers mentioned just want to go fishing and leave the politics to those of a mind for it. They also feel that the subscriptions required to join many organisations would be best spent elswhere on their hobby. However, should the prophesied day of doom when Angling came under threat actually happen, then c5 Million people would stand up to be counted. NO politician could afford that.
  18. I bought a badge depicting one of the above in a moment of nostalgia on Ebay the other day. Now I was a paid up 'ordinary' guilder back in my boyhood but I cannot recall the Master Guilder category. Does anyone remember what one had to achieve to aspire to those heights?
  19. Go on then......ROFLMAO..????
  20. I bought mine about 18 months ago now. It is signed only by Hugh. Spent many an hour with a large glass of Brandy watching them since.
  21. Did anyone see the pathetic scene the other day on Emmerdale portraying Zak Dingle 'tickling' trout on a lake of all things? He managed to get a couple of rainbows of Morrisons proportions..!!

    Fly Snaps!

Hi Jake, I've tried the ones marketed by Mustad over here in the past, but, as daft as it sounds I didn't find it particularly easy to change over flies when using them. I've long since reverted to tying them on again. The point about the movement of the fly was what first caused me to try them out. Regards
