  1. Hi All I have been improving my feeder fishing and was wondering about which feeder and when. I understand the difference between caged feeder and block end feeders but what about method feeder vs cage feeder, I have read lots of articles lately whee get are using cage feeder and was wondering what the pros and cons are vs method or flatbed feeders. As always all help is always appreciated Thanks Ging
  2. Im not knocking anyones choices in fishing and i banter with my friends about it all the time. But ......... i can only have an opinion and choice about which to use or how many if i understand why. If i have no idea the its a pointless opinion with no meaning. Im not copying the videos exactly but they are a starting point for me to learn.
  3. Dont know if bumping is allowed but if it is BUMP
  4. thanks to everyone for the replies keep em coming they are very helpful (more helpful than the shop owner than told me they are just serial numbers and mean nothing) To John, I still use some of the old methods but i want to learn as much as i can and maybe enter a few competitions when i get a little better, ive just found that some people are not helpful and act like they are silly questions. As for the style of fishing i fish feeder float and pole. Finally i don't think he will take me fishing, i got the impression it was more of an offer to get me to stop asking questions as he couldn't be bothered. TO Phone, thanks you link is helpful and i have noticed that there is a lot more out there now compared to when i was a kid when your choice was eyed or spade end. To everyone, Thanks so much for your responses. This is the most help ive had since returning and im overwhelmed that you are all willing to help so much. Please keep to responses coming they are a great help (And Ill remember this when i get signed by Preston or Browning lol)
  5. HI All I was watching some videos about making pole rigs and i noticed that they all had trays and trays of pole rigs. Lots of these the same with the same floats and shots etc. What is the need for so many. I would of thought 2 incase one breaks is enough, Thanks For Any Help On This
  6. Hi all I have been looking into hooks and floats and i have noticed there are many different ones that are the same. Ive been specificaly looking at preston hooks and they have several hooks of the same size with different numbers, where can i find the info about what each of these different hooks are for and why. I have looked on the preston website and found nothing really helpful. Also i ask the same question about pole floats. There are several versions of a bodied float or dibber but very little info on why each one is different. Any help on this would be excellent. Thanks all
  7. Hi to all My name is Nathan and i got into fishing when i was very young and my grandad taught me. I had a long gap from fishing but now im hoping to get back into it and a bit more seriously. Im going to make a little rant but im hoping this is a good place to get some tips and advice and learn to fish better. Times have changed alot since i last went fishing. people now catch much bigger bags and carp are very common. However due to not staying into fishing the last 15 years or so im kinda learning from scratch. The problem is ive been getting very little help from people and getting silly replies (like when i asked a shop what the different preston hooks where i was told they are just serial numbers for the company. Or when i asked about modern tactics was just told he will take me fishing when he has time) and im hoping people on here can be more helpful and understanding that im basically new to this and the days of Roach and a match winning bag of 4lbs appears to be gone. I believe that knowing why is better than just knowing how and i hope to learn from you all. Anyway thanks for reading and i hope to become a better angler.
  8. Hi All I decided to try my hand at pellet waggler fishing yesterday with moderate success. I got a rhythm going and was getting plenty of bites but seemed to miss loads or even when i thought i should of had a fish on there wasn't one. I has just a pellet waggler on with 2x No8shots to hold it on about 12 inches or so from the hook. The hook was a size 16 bandit. Simple what was my reason for missing bites. was it my style or my rig Thanks
  9. ok thanks all. I think that you can catch specific fish but i think that in tutorial videos they know that those fish are there and don't say anything so that they dont look stupid if they catch the wrong thing. The reason i say this is because ive seen video where someone has had a simple waggler rig and caugh nothing but carp but i think they edit it too much and this gives the wrong impression.
  10. I think i understand the method feeder now, its just an easier way to make sure the hook bait is with the feed (instead of cast, wait a min then make a few turns of the reel. Also i thought all feeder where self hooking? Thanks
  11. I have been watching some tutorial videos on fishing and have noticed that a lot of anglers say they are fishing for a particular species of fish. Is this down to the bait they use or the rig (by rig i mean type of float or shoting pattern) or is it they go to a fishery that they know is packed with that breed of fish. one example is in one video where they where catching carp on a waggler with maggots. I have fished the same way many times and just caught roach or other small stuff.
  12. I have been looking into pole fishing rigs and I think I understand the three basic shotting patterns. 1. Button pattern = bait falls slow to catch fish at all depth. 2. Bottom heavy = drops the bait quickly to catch bottom feeders like carp. 3. No shot = falls naturally and catches fish on the top are these correct and what other patterns are there and what do they do.
  13. I have gotten into feeder fishing but I don't understand the different feeders. Ive been told that block end feeders are for live baits. Ive been told that open end feeders are for ground bait in deep water. Ive been told that caged feeders are for more shallow water. Ive been told flat bed feeders always sit face up and are better for pellets. is this all correct and what is the difference between a method feeder and a cage or open end feeder.
