  3. Got to say that I haven't tried the sweet method, so maybe I've been missing-out My fave is bread soaked in a soup of blended lobs, bloodworms, jokers and the like, and then rolled into balls the size of a boilie More important, in my view, than the bait, is (a) a bit of pre-baiting and ( the time-of-day when you fish .... just before first-light ... or into the twilight .. Good luck anyway DG

  5. There is a link, albeit a tad tenuous, between this topic and coarse fishing, because, checking-out the cost of some ferry-crossings led me to the website of www.rip-off.co.uk and more particularly to this page Obviously there's not enough room on their website to list all the offending Tackle Companies as well .... yet ! That's what I've had to do i.e. scan-in my non-digipix. Elton runs a separate facility for Members to display pix of their captures, but let's see a couple of yours on here, please? Maybe one from a Thames Weir Dick Walker was right, wasn't he?! Whatever its size, even the smaller ones, the proud perch always looks to be a BIG FISH. I like the way (and I treat perch especially gently) when you slip them carefully back into the water, they sometimes turn around to face you, dorsal fin erect, as if to say "OK, you won Round 1 .. wannah another fight?" ________________ Tight Lines DG [ 09. 9. quote: Originally posted by Nugg: If I read your post right, you imply that Pike may have been removed by the E.A. or the B.W.B. Nope .... sorry .. maybe I didn't make myself very clear .. what I meant was that the EA will have the biomass density info for all the species in the Cut from their most recent Biomass survey ,, and it is available free on request. 11. quote: Originally posted by Anthony78: So it looks like this lock keeper friend of mine is telling me a load of cobblers. Any body got any ideas as to why there are no pike in the canal so I can put my mate right next time I see him. Seeing as the canal eventually finds it's way to the river severn it's not that they just haven't been introduced. Would be very interested to find out. thanks ant Why not ask your friendly local EA Region Fisheries Officer !! DG [ 08. May 2004, 12:28 PM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  12. quote: Originally posted by Fred Guttfield: DG, Is that photo from Book of the Perch? Nope. It's very distinctive (I like to think) and I've used it under my nom de pêche in a couple of my previous amateur articles for Club Magazines, on the 'Net etc., and postings on other threads elsewhere in the distant past. As you've very obviously got an excellent memory, maybe you can place this more recent pic of mine? _______ DG [ 08. May 2004, 12:33 PM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]

In my experience and opinion, there's very little, fishing-wise, that's less accurate than the guesstimated weight of a perch. I don't know why people do it ... why not just weigh it?! .. yup, I know there are sometimes good reasons why not ... DG
  14. quote: Originally posted by BUDGIE: Last time I was in the States I looked at one of those rubber mesh jobs that you mention Newt. Didn't get one as I didn't have the balls to try something different! .... and they're also a tad on the large-side for the pike you catch, Budgie! DG
