  3. Interesting .... the Oreno has to be one of my least favourite lures! As you can see from the back-to-back pic, its profile is very different from that of the all-time-classic Lucky 13, _____________ and I find that the Oreno has a very poor action compared with either wooden or plastic Lucky 13s. 4. My personal permanent solution to always having a slug to hand as a bait is this _______________________________ A hand-made job carved from a piece of balsa-wood. I've also found that a Shakespeare Little S, painted black all-over, works equally well, for perch and pike as well as chub _____________ DG [ 02. Blimey .. not a lot of advance notice! So we're talking about lakes & pits open in the Closed Season for rivers, but non-carp venues ... DG
  6. Fortunately chub love slugs even more than slugs like ... well, all most everything DG

  9. Sadly The Broome Angling Society's award-winning web-site ... isn't working Also, is this who you mean? 14. quote: Originally posted by WickerDave: I've recommended Mill Farm, Gilmorton before, It is getting busy at the weekends now the weather has (had) warmed up, but is well worth a short visit in the evenings. Holly Farm may be a bit small for proper carp rods and tactics, the two newer lakes have central islands within pole reach and the original lake is very small. Cheers, WDave DG
  15. quote: Originally posted by Andy Macfarlane: I'd say my favourite lure of all time, is the Mepps Aglia Decoree (gold/red dots) because it catches allsorts of fish from Trout to Pike to Mackerel. Andy Isn't the Mepps Aglia Decorée otherwise known as the Mepps Comet en Angleterre et L'Ecosse ? ( see here ) DG  [ 30. April 2004, 11:08 AM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  16. quote: Originally posted by Newt: This is a real old timer lure that has been reborn a few times. Newt, Mmmmmh! Nice! Got to be worth $100+ now! Re: the Lucky 13, here's a little modification that I learned from here ; I put a small Colorado spinner-blade and swivel on the front hook-hanger ... and it's worked really well for me. Of course, it may have worked just as well without the blade .. who can tell?! __________________ DG [ 30. April 2004, 10:37 AM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  17. quote: Originally posted by Rob Ward: I'll be using .... 22lb Dynon SK braid .. Rob, A little thing .. but one that helps a lot IMHO ... even when you're using braid:- Use a line-lube ! RH's Slick Horizon (like rocking-horse manure to find now ), or Kryston Greased Lightning (sadly the cost's extortionate ), or a simple domestic water-based (got to watch some of the solvents used in some polishes) spray polish etc OK, they may have been mainly designed for monos but they work with braids too. I never leave home without some .... and I keep the line on the spools soaked all the time when I'm not fishing. DG [ 30. April 2004, 09:31 AM: Message edited by: The Diamond Geezer ]
  18. quote: Originally posted by BUDGIE: Totally agree .... snatching the lure away from them ..... its' totally mad! ....all that time spent working for a take and when it comes we try and prevent the fish from grabbing our lure! I think we must all do it. Well, that's what comes of watching Mick Brown's video on fishing with surface lures Best advice is when the fish hits the surface lure, first say "Mick Brown" and then strike DG [ 30. 23. quote: Originally posted by Pangolin: I've found out that there are two carp fisheries at Gilmorton, both reviewed in the magazines recently: Both look good. Holly farm seems to have better facilities, bigger carp, and is more popular. Mill farm looks quieter, a bit more 'natural' Gilmorton is just north of jct 20 on the M1 Yup, Thanks, I found it too .. and it's about 10 miles south of where I'll be staying Thanks again DG
  24. Hi I going to be on business in Leicester in a couple of weeks, and staying not too far from Junction 21 on the M1, and I'll be taking my carp rods with me in the hope that there are some nice lakes in the area that hold tench, carp and/or bream. Can anyone help, please? DG
