  1. 1. go to http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/ 2. select CONTACT US 3. Select Regional Information 4. Select your Region 5. Select CONTACT US and ask them the question I've used this many times; they're usually very helpful and reply within a few days. The information they hold is Public Domain so there's no problem with their releasing it. Ask for the most recent BIOMASS survey data from the stretch you're interested in. Tell them of your concerns Didn't mean to be "short" .. just assumed that everyone with a fishing licence knew how to contact the EA
  2. Have you thought about using a telescopic? You only need to extend the sections you want, and some of them are quite tough i.e. not soft
  3. So, like I said: "Why not e-mail the Environment Agency and ask the question(s)?!! "
  4. I reckon you'll have to go a long long way to beat a Delkim
  5. Who "checked a large section of the trent for fish population and size, and found that the result was that only a handfull of small fish were present", then? I naturally assumed that only the EA would have done that ... paid for partially by angling licence fees Richard Peake
  6. I agree with madmarine The Exeter Canal can produce, or it can blank you; just like anywhere else I suppose You could also try the Culm (Exeter & Dist AA)
  7. Why not e-mail the Environment Agency and ask the question(s)?!!
  8. Once again I find myself agreeing with Steve B Also the rear drags on these reels are a tad on the small & weak side and so, as Steve B says, it very much depends on what you plan to use the reel for. Also, these days, quite a few tackle shops are knocking them out to clear their stocks .. at well below the price you're talking about Richard Peake
  9. You could try the Leeds & Liverpool Canal! Your local tackle shop will give you the best up-to-date local info
  10. Leicester & District Amalgamated Society of Anglers 0116 2666911
  11. There are several other good 49-strand wires around, and cheaper too. e.g. AFW and those from Malin (of Boa fame)
  12. Yep, D.A.M. joined forces with Silstar a while ago, and then disappeared.
  13. Dave P is correct but if you can set the ratchet on your fly reel completely OFF, you may get away with it .... something like a Lewtham Centrepin won't set you back much more than £40 though.
  14. Have you tried using a silicone-based line-lube?
  15. As you say, it's a real pain and a shame, and not the first time there's been a major pollution incident here. I agree, let's hope they get a hefty fine and are made to pay the cost of clearing up and re-stocking Diamond G
  16. It's also worth checking that your bail-arm roller is revolving freely as this can exacerbate any potential line twist I know guys who are using these new Okuma reels with no probs .... but you have to give them time to get run-in. They're really cheap too. Diamond Geezer
  17. I thought RW had passed-on to the great big carp lake in the sky DG
  18. Berkley FireLine is really a fusion line and not a true braid. For general carp fishing I think you'd do better with a pukka braid such as Rod Hutchinson's carp braid, or Berkley Whiplash or something like that. And yep, like Andy says, you've gotta be dead careful with the knots you use..... read the mf's instructions on the leaflet or box. I use Palomar and Grinner. (if you wanna read a whole load more about braids, monos and fusion lines, have a look at the Revciews etc right here on Elt's site and on Nick Caine's site under Top Tackle Tests : http://members.lycos.co.uk/lureangler/ ) Cheers then Diamond The Really- Geezer
  19. Yep, pre-baiting for a couple of weeks does pay divz .. trust me .. or ask Nick Peet !! DG
  20. Newt I've tried to bring this back up to the top for a while anyway in case you didn't see my previous posting DG
  21. Forget the neck warmer & rod wraps I'm up for for the pretty girl inside Diamond G
