Its quite the opposite as the temptation of a large meal gets to entice it i think. Many pike will just leave it half in its mouth while the other half is literally being digested as it lays motionless on the bottom

Is a bigger deadbait for pike more productive? I have always used the sprat or sardine or half an eel so in general no more than about 6 inches long but after talking to local experienced guys about what will catch on my local river they say they get much more bites on the bigger baits such as full herring or mackerel. I have had no real choice in recent years but to fish stillwaters so could it be that the choice for the rivers is a larger bait? What do the pikers think on here?

Steve is so right in his comment. I find hemp and caster a good alround mix this time of year and maybe sweetcorn. I try not to use maggots until the colder months but then i am on the pike anyway..

It's always been that way. Very few 'have not' been educated in top schools and very few of their children and it will always be that way because that is the way the world goes round or shall we say 'money talks'. When people say you must vote for a party in a general election i answer why should i as if i disagree so much on each of their policies i do not think they are fit for government why should i put a cross in their box? I know one thing if i were in the US i could not vote for either of them and would rather put my head in a bucket of ****!!

Good post chesters On saturday i trundled down my local day ticket water ( literally 5 minutes by car) for an evening ticket to catch some twilight perch and all 4 lakes were packed and i can honestly say that every swim (as i walked through them all to the furthest lake were all ledgering for carp and not one float fished. You would have least seen someone float fishing 20 years back but not one. I found only 2 swims and one looked perchy but over hanging trees meant it would be hard casting so i decided to just flip the float under a bush. After a few perch around the 2lb mark i spotted a carp right under the swim and just lightly dabbed it in its path and off it went with a 18lb 4oz in the bag and i never heard one buzz all round the lake from 4pm until 9pm when i upped and left. Result was 5 Perch from 2lb-3lb a 5lb carp and the 18lber and my last catch was a 2lb 6oz eel . There are some very big perch and a potential record eel in these lakes big roach and bream and yet its carp 'everyone ' fishes for which is fine by me you carry on boys
