  1. When I lived on the South Coast and did quite a bit of fishing, I used a piece of polyst1rene between the weight and hook. It was good for fishing in very weedy conditions or if out in a boat for taking the bait off the bottom. You have to try and work out how big a piece of styrene you need depending on the size of bait, but it is very bouyant. I have also used corks for the same job on occassion.
  2. Thanks Guys, Where would I be without you? My Mum told me that the name originated from the fact that the 'author' was having breakfast one morning trying to think of a suitable pseudonym, as he did not want to be well known, especially as he also wrote 'Crossroads' and 'Eldorado'. He picked up the jam to put on his toast, when he notied the name, 'Hartleys' he had problems with the initials, so he just dropped the 'A' from 'JAR'. I think I'll stick with her explanation thanks chaps!
  3. I recently fished a small pond, where I was told it was best to fish with sweet corn or boilies, legered or with a swim feeder. I tried this for sometime and as I had a float rod and some worms, with me decided to try my luck to see if there was anything else in the pond besies carp. Imagine my surprise when I then caught five carp! Can anyone explain why this should catch fish when the 'tried and tested' didn't even get a bite?
  4. Anyone know what the J R stands for? No its not junior.
  5. I wonder if anyone can help. I live in the Reading area and have found a few pieces of the Thames and Kennet which are free to fish. They are popular spots and produce good fish too, so a bonus all round. I have recently come across a couple of other places where it looks as if fishing is carried out, (not at present I might add) but have never found anyone actually fishing to find out who 'owns' rights to fish the stretch in question. I have contacted the local councils, River Authority and Enviroment Agency, but no one can help. Has any one got any other ideas on how or where I can find information? Thanks.
  6. 1. Sheep are easier to get into than these things! 2. Have you got any in sheep skin?
