  1. Yeah perhaps your right,I thought I was being helpful by saying use one single hook instead of 2 trebles,it deffinatly helps the pike anyway. IMO.Sometimes I say the wrong thing and lots of times I spell things wrong,i thought it didn't really matter, looks like I was wrong.Perhaps I wont post on here anymore,if I have to watch what I say everytime
  2. I have been given old rods, reels, alarms, bait droppers etc, sometimes by people I have not even met because they would rather give them to someone who is going to love them and appreciate them and get pleasure out of using them than sell them to someone else.Just today I was sitting there fishing, got the place to myself ,I was using a Edgar sealy black arrow rod and an old Mitchell 300,I have fished this place 6 times now and not had a bite, but who cares, each time I use a different rod/reel,and I can't wait till the next trip,Today some old boy happened to come past and we started chatting when he left he promised me an old Mitchell reel that he has at home,he said I could have it for nothing and he would meet me over .there on Tuesday,I had never seen this bloke before .I can not wait till Tuesday,I had to pack up and go home ,all I can think off is what is this reel like.I am like a little kid at xmas, and long may it last .HAPPY DAYS
  3. You are entitled to your opinion mate, The reason I used the taperflash the other day is because I wanted to.
  4. Because that's what I did towards the end of last season and I am happy with the results,if I remember right most of the time the bait was half way down its thoat,(what ever bait I was using)and the hook was in the sissors, and I struck as soon as I had a bite even with a whole herring,i will not go back to trebles, you lot can do what you want.
  5. If you can catch all them fish in a couple of hours I think I will move to the outer hebidies
  6. You will prob have to use plastic, although you did manage to catch a few fish so it cant be to bad yet
  7. Go for it,Use ONE size 4 SINGLE hook and hair rig your bait,it doesn't matter if it is a sprat or a whole herring
  8. Well said,I hair rig my sardines thru the tail and can give it a big cast and the bait stays on,no prob, and another plus is more often than not you get your bait back,Happy days
  9. Go for it,i did last year and I will never use trebles again,if I remember right I started half way thru the winter and out of 20 runs I hooked 18 and all were hooked in the sissors, this has been done before and there is a lot of fors and againsts,I used a single size 4 or 6 carp hook and hair rigged the baits, even if I was using a whole herring, happy days
  10. Have you used one then? I know they are heavy,I have heard a few horror storys about them.
  11. I am out tomorrow on a new water, I am giving my appollo taperflash a outing, prob with an avon royal supreame,i will be using bread, bacon grill or prawns,I have used black pudding on a number of occasions and not had a bite, which is a surprise cos it has a lot going for it ie no one uses it,its colour and the blood content.
  12. Very quiet on here, wonder why ? I was on northouse lake at wyboston last week and I saw 2 carpers leave their rods fishing for 25 mins while they went down the other end of the lake
  13. I don't fish for carp delibertly, and I do not mind if I catch one,i do not hate carp or any living creature for that matter, I am old school and I fish in the margins using old glass rods and centrepins,Happy days. You can buy old glass rods for under £20,but if it has the word Carp on the rod the rod then goes up to £60 or more,I have not caught a tench for two years, where as a few years ago I used to go after work for 3or 4 hours and be in with a chance of a couple of tench.I think it is because where ever you fish the carp vastly out number the tench.BUT I do put a lot of restrictions on my fishing,i don't use boilies,I don't fish commercials,i don't nightfish anymore,i wont fish anywhere where there is rubbish, line, etc. And I will not fish anywhere that is busy.If I go fishing and don't see a human being all day, then I have had a good day,if I catch a fish and no one knows except me then I have had a brilliant day
  14. I love all fish and it does wind me up when people call carp mud pigs, but i am starting to get fed up with carp myself,If you want to buy a rod on e,bay and it happens to be a carp rod you know you wont be able to afford it,if you ring up about a fishery that you have just found and they say there is carp in it,you know it is going to be the other side of £300,What winds me up most is its easier to catch carp than tench, still not had one this year yet.
  15. Hello ,Are you there Steve, I left the 2nd dose of FMG in for 2 days, then changed no more than 15% of the water,I have got a bad feeling that I have lost another one of the koi, goldfish cross ,aint seen him for two days,Hope you don't mind , but I would like some answers to a few things that have been bugging me,As it stands at the moment I have the two big koi which seem to be ok,they must weigh 24lb between them, one cross left which is about 2lb.the goldfish which is about half a pound, which was in a right state but looks a bit better now and a 5 inch koi that we put in a month ago with 3 small rudd,(I am blaming them for this) I did a ammonia and nitrite test again today they were both one up from perfect which is where I think they were when I first done the test. I have turned the uv filters back on cos the water is starting to go green again. This is one of the things I cant get my head round, they say that you need to have a pond system and let the good bacteria build up in the filter to kill of the bad stuff ,then you are told to clean out the filter regulary(which must kill of the good stuff )and you are back to square one again! And back home my pond was about 80 galls ,I had my koi (10.5lbs) the small goldfish,a shubunkin and one cross maybe two. My filter was a homemade job and none of this happened,I move down here build them a pond 12 times bigger and this happens, how bad do I feel! I have just added my home made filter to the system in desperation, hope I have not done a wrong un,.I would be grateful if you have any views. Thanks Mick
  16. Thank you for your help
  17. Thanks, To late, ive put another dose in and I thought I would give it 2 days then do a water change, then I was going to test the water again, and I was going to clean the filters out again,I have been on google "koi ponds",i have rung the koi place, I have asked questions on here and other forums,I just looked at them again and one of them especialy is covered in mucus, looks like it scales are lifting{dropsy)?Another one looks like his tail fin is rotting away. All I have been trying to find out is this FMG I have been putting in, is it a cure all, will it cure dropsy, will it cure fin rot ,will it cure parasites, should I leave it in for more than 2 days before I change the water, how long does it need to be in the water to work. someone must know.THANKS for your help
  18. I have spoke to the koi centre again and they said that to put another dose in now which is about 48 hours after the first one. and then all I can do is wait and see, maybe in a couple of days time change 20% of the water again,it seems that if this stuff is going to work it should it should have worked by then,I told them that the only gold fish left has his tail fin looking raggied and green stuff on his fins, fungus perhaps?
  19. Hello did not let the water stand but I remember putting stuff in because I was using tap water, but that was 8 months ago, they all seemed fine.I will add that this pond is raised 30'' above the ground and no birds or frogs get in there.
  20. Sorry if I was a bit rude.I bought a water test kit,it tests for ph.nitrate, nitrite, water hardness, alkalidity, ammonia.from the results, the two important ones, ammonia and nitrite ,my pond was one up from the best it could be.Ammonia was 0.2 and Nitrite was 0.25.Thanks
  21. Thanks, that makes me feel a lot better
