  2. Spot on Dunk, Most of the bad press reports that come to light centre on that old chestnut 'discarded tackle' and we just don't seem to be listening. I fished one of my local club waters Friday and the banks were strewn with litter I can't carry it all home with me! If we minimise the litter problems the twitchers might feel more kindly disposed to angling. As for the dodgers.. I think the recent 356 day campaign in the angling mail weekly might just help to encourage the 'only a handful of times a year' angler what do you think?
  3. Well, you could try pennington flash near leigh, just off the east lancs road, i'm told there are pretty big slabs in there though I've not fished it myself. cheers.
  4. glenn, it seems to me that some people these days can't make a joke without being accused of racism, it gets to me I'm afraid, re-read the thread and look hard for a racist comment, all you will find is sick humour and despair at this crazy country we live in, for goodness sake, whatever next?
  5. Hello glider, first job is to make contact with your local tackle dealer, he or she will be able to show you a wide selection of tackle. Your dealer will want to see you return again and again that's how he makes his money, so don't be afraid to ask for his advice, its in his interest as well as yours. He may even be able to get you some good used kit. Just remember you generally get what you pay for. Tight lines!

    advice

Thanks for raising this thread John, I got a pair of clip-ons from Boots for a tenner a couple of months ago and they are c**p, I'm used to plastic lenses but these are impossible to keep from scratching, so I too am looking to buy. Cheers!

    priest?

Cheers guys! I have seen a few priests in my time that looked like they might give you a good whack, no offence intended to all those angling priests out there, come to think of it what a good job, plenty of fishing time midweek but screws up the matches a bit.

    priest?

Hello all, Can anyone tell me the derivation of the word 'priest' as related to angling, and how this came about, I know what it is but how did it get its name? Thanks,
  9. Mally, Sorry to hear about your tackle, the scum deserve to be used as livebait! or is that now verboten!!! Can anyone suggest a good tackle insurance policy up to now I've been thinking that my house contents will cover it.
  10. Dunk, that's the point, I'm not suggesting that we all unify, or in fact that organisations don't already exist representing large numbers of anglers. What I'm saying is that I don't think one vast alliance will ever be formed in the current climate, but notwithstanding that, if there was a call to ban our sport I think you would get the support of the 'silent' majority. In answer to your question I have been an occasional angler for some years but only recently got really hooked, and I have not as yet joined any of the groups you listed, I did join the ACA out of my concern for pollution of our environment as soon as I became aware of the work which it undertakes. Through this forum I hope to discover more about angling and anglers, and I would not discount my joining any of the groups listed.
  11. Wake up and smell the coffee you say, well OK! firstly we might just get agreement that 'something' needs to be done, but then we can't agree what, a co-ordinated effort perhaps? there are so many groups looking after their own particular interests its a bit of a long shot to expect to get them to work together long term. So maybe we are looking at one organisation specifically set up to combat the threat and therein lies your major dilemma, who would join it? how would it be funded? who would you get to front it? Whoever you come up with would not satisfy everyone and I doubt very much that it would get off the ground, that's realism folks! a pessimistic viewpoint maybe but that is pretty much why most of our other organisations get formed in the first place.
  12. As a relative angling rookie can anyone tell me why there always seems to be one suicidal cygnet or duckling in a 'brood' (is that the correct word?) which seems hell bent on snagging itself on my rig, all the rest take a detour when they see your line in the water and I do my best to avoid them.
  13. I'm getting a bit fed up reading so many magazine articles and posts on this and other sites about how we should all get together to fight the antis, how we need a united front, one banner and all that.. when its clear to me that we could end up going round in circles while we try to achieve this. EA licence sales for both adults and juniors are up again, our sport is healthy and there are enough of us to take on and defeat any anti group. Some anglers will never stand up to be counted until the time comes to fight, we are, by and large, a peaceful lot until our beloved sport is threatened, I just don't see the need to bang our wardrums just yet and as for one vast alliance it aint going to happen. Forums like this and a healthy press are all that we need to keep abreast of the situation.
