  1. You got the Garden Festival site didn't you?
  2. Errmm... IF we are having an effect on the rate of change it is a small one NOT a huge degree. As the planet warms up we are LOSING our northern ice sheet not seeing it move south (except as melt water) unless of course you are referring to the 'ice-age' theories that sit alongside the opposite thinking and clearly demonstrate that the scientists haven't a clue what is actually going to happen. Maybe the reason that a perceived large portion of recyclers are elderly is that this part of society has a little more belief that those in authority know best, and still trust our leadership. When I earlier suggested we should resist all attempts to impose environment taxes, I did not suggest doing your bit was a bad thing merely not something that should be enforced by law. As an angler I do care about my environment and do 'my' bit but I am under no illusions regarding my 'global impact'. All this carbon footprint nonsense is getting on my nerves.
  3. The problem as has already been mentioned is not so much being laughed at but being taxed to breaking point and made to feel responsible in some way for it all. IMO we should resist all attempts to force environment taxes in whatever shape they appear, we are seeing the thin end of the wedge. Green = gullible = cash cow This planets cyclic nature is not evil, its natural, its been going on for millions of years. No amount of intervention by us is going to stop it doing what its always done... change! So accept it and adjust your life to suit.
  4. Baloney? well climate change being made out to be all mans fault, or largely mans fault, well that is complete Baloney. Sure it is changing, and for sure we are probably affecting the rate of change but there's not a lot we can do about it, so keep on collecting your cardboard everyone and re-use your plastic bags, but just remember the Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Americans and developing asian countries will not be following suit. You might just be p*****g in the wind of change.
  5. Well, just to let you folks know Preston were quick to reply and have assured me their stuff is ok to 20 stone, and having had a peek at some this weekend I can well believe it, looks like a very nice piece of kit.
  6. Thanks Ollie, I'm not sure I would have let a big fat bloke try out my new seatbox ! Anyway, no offence taken, you would have to try very hard to offend me. I have emailed a couple of makers as John suggested so I await replies with interest.
  7. Worst buy.... without a doubt, Ron Thompson energy flyline.... the nearest thing you can ever get to a coiled spring.
  8. A lot has been said about the need for 'proper' pike equipment I would just like to add this; A few weeks ago I went for a short session on a new stretch of canal to me. I always take the 'proper' equipment for the type of fishing I am doing, which in this case was float fishing for perch, single hook and mono line. I did not expect to hook never mind land, a pike which took my bait. I was not equipped with long forceps that day, and fortunately the pike had hooked itself right in the scissors which was easily dealt with and the fish returned safely, but it does highlight the absurdity of legislation to ensure having the 'proper' equipment to hand. The real issue is education on fish handling and that is relevant for all fish.
  9. Hi John, Welcome to AN and thanks for a great post ! I'm toying with the idea of a seatbox, at the moment I use a chair for all types of fishing, so its good to get ideas and opinions from users. I have a general question in regard to seatboxes... What is the maximum load weight they are designed to bear? Most chairs are designed to 18 stone and I'm afraid when loaded down with waterproofs and gear I exceed this, but my feet are usually planted on the ground, however if I'm using a footplate on a seatbox the adjustable feet will be supporting not only my full weight but also my on-box tackle too. The last thing I need is to stand up and be tipped out into the lake when a tube clamp gives way...
  10. I've heard of Scotsmans but not the others. I don't think any of those are on the wigan card, Scot lane pond certainly is, that is behind the JJB and towards beech hill near the traffic lights. Also in this area on the wigan card is Houghtons which is adjacent to the renault garage but over the side road from it. Both scot lane and houghtons contained decent fish though its a long while since I fished either. For as long as I can remember the brook out of pennington flash has been Leigh anglers. Not sure about the flashes you mention, but there is a commercial next to scotmans and also pollies at Abram, plus 2 wigan waters at bickershaw.
  11. Buy one Dave, you won't go wrong. I have the 2.2diesel version, great for everyday road use, economical for its size, and errm... goes like a train. Drop the rear seats to give a completely flat floor and you can load up whatever you like, fishing gear, building supplies, I had a whacker plate in mine it never even dropped appreciably on the suspension. 2/3 seat split, ski hatch, its got the lot, including restraint net to keep it all in place. As for having those rod tips at shoulder / head height protruding between the rear seats, like all my previous cars.... God help you in the event of an accident. A & E are gonna be digging your tip ring out from your eardrum.
  12. Yep that's another thing I agree with. if you write to your delivery office manager stating that you want to withdraw from recieving door to door items they will send you a form so you can do it,its a bit longwinded but it does get there in the end.just to make you aware but posties get a supplement for delivering these which can boost the wages,if you have problems with your postie i would recommend writing to the delivery office manager ,or going down to the office to see him/her. Unfortunately I have no faith in writing to the delivery manager because either the letter will be lost or the manager will be totally unconcerned as previous experience has shown. Going down to his office entails me taking time off work, I work longer hours than he does, and I don't get paid for time off. I can't just pop around in my lunchtime the sorting office is 30 miles from my work. When we all have to pay by volume to have our rubbish taken away my junk mail will be getting posted back in the box, with or without envelopes.
  13. The 'Royal' mail needs to lose its postal monopoly ASAP, the service is apalling. I recently emailed them to complain I hadn't received an important letter I knew had been posted addressed correctly. Their reply was so condescending and amounted to ...shove off. I know they can't trace mail I didn't need to be told, and I only emailed them to stress just how bad I thought they were. Our postie is dyslexic, that is the only reason I can think of why he posts our mail through other doors and others mail through ours.... or maybe he's just stupid. I know they don't like being told they are useless, I tried that one with a postie some years ago. Perhaps he does it on purpose, in which case he's in the wrong job. Its not rocket science is it... So no sympathy from me for their cause however just, GET BACK TO WORK OR LOSE YOUR JOB!!!
  14. So if you've been driving for a few years and not had to renew your paper licence for any reason, and you don't have a passport 'cos you don't travel abroad, you have the devils own job proving who you are in your own country. Birth certificates are accepted if original, no photocopies, but if you have to send it away and your original gets lost in the post you're bu@@ered. The post office checking facility for documents only works if you have a passport.
  15. I read today the police want to question Mrs McCann again regarding the 40 questions she refused to answer the first time around... what's that about 'if you have nothing to hide you've nothing to fear' I just can't see why you would refuse to answer questions. It also alleged in todays reports that Mr.McCann is rather less than a 'modern father' in that he doesn't do much to help his wife look after the kids. She was reported to be worn out coping with Madeleines 'over activity' ...just like most normal 3 year olds then. It is so easy to see why many people are now doubting the McCanns version of events, they really haven't done themselves any favours.
  16. Lathams gets my vote too, they are keen as mustard on prices and excellent delivery mail order.
  17. Congratulations to both of you ! Our 25th sort of snuck up on us last year, that one seriously dented my wallet... moral... Don't let your heart write cheques that your bank manager won't like.
  18. Cheers Steve I'll give it a go, don't recognise the name 'cyberlink' so he probably doesn't use it.
  19. My father has a laptop which, when he fires it up displays a box with the following message, can anyone shed any light on this please, is it a potential problem. what can we do to fix it? Microsoft visual Runtime error. s\acer\acer arcade\kernel\clml\nt service clml service exe This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way, please contact the applications support team for more information. Any info at all will be gratefully received, thanks. If it is any help this has only occurred since he hit the ok button to 'restore factory defaults' which wiped out his office suite and lost his working files.
  20. Angling for me transcends a mere sport hobby or pastime, it is what I do when I have a choice of how to spend my time, as opposed to having to work, shop or fix things. Like Haighy, I regret deeply not having spent more time doing it when I was younger, and thereby experiencing the 'old' days which I could then compare to now for equipment & thrill. Angling sometimes involves going fishing, sometimes even catching them ! but not always... I can quite happily sit in front of a good TV prog, DVD or angling book, and I am swept into my alternative dimension. Angling is pottering around in my garage with some bit of tackle or other, scouring ebay and the shelves of my local tackle shop for a bargain, for which I have no use or intent until the moment I see it. Angling drifts in and out of my waking hours like an early morning dew-laden mist meandering through the bankside vegetation. It is never far away from my thoughts and can awake me instantly from those mundane realities, with nothing more than a glimpse of shimmering water.
  21. Just had to post a quick thank you and well done to Masterline, for their very speedy replacement of my sons Wilson Avon rod screw down handle, which had parted company with its corks. One e-mail and a brand new handle winged its way to me f.o.c. you can't say fairer than that eh?
  22. Welcome to Anglers Net Steve, when I was rediscovering angling some years back I found these two books quite helpful, they aren't the most up to date but cover the basics quite comprehensively. The complete guide to fishing skills by Tony Whieldon John Wilsons Coarse fishing method manual To be honest it may be a better bet to get yourself down to the newsagents and pick up a copy of 'Improve your coarse fishing' magazine published monthly by emap. Aside from that, this forum is as good a place as any to ask any amount of seemingly daft questions and you can expect answers to be forthcoming. Don't be shy ask away... and tightlines.
  23. Very interesting glad I saw this. I have bought stuff from this seller in the past and had no problems at all, however I have long suspected dodgy doings were going on when I was in the market for a fly rod. I watched as rods were listed at a high reserve then unsold. Occasionally one would appear with no reserve, would attract a bid or two then disappear from auction before the end. This happened to me on several occasions, and I was not alone it appears.
  24. I couldn't put it better myself, having seen swans attack geese, drive off the parents and kill their young with repeated diving onto the little ones to force them and hold them underwater. Even intervention from a young lady angler with a landing net couldn't prevent the inevitable.
  25. That's awful news, I hope they can recover from this rapidly. Im sure somewhere as big as bosfish will have adequate insurance, its the time out and subsequent loss of trade that has a knock on effect.
