  1. The river I fish is unchanged, carp are still needle in a haystack, been getting less Chub the last few years but it's hard to tell from one person's point of view and these things tend to go in cycles anyway. A local river had a population of otters until they fenced off the man made privately stocked lake, they moved into the local town center now, guess it's easier to find food there.
  2. I wonder if the people who speak up with disdain against the idea of fencing predominantly MAN MADE lakes that are privately stocked, put as much (or any) effort into finding out why their natural waters, mainly rivers I guess, have allegedly gone to rack and ruin. Perhaps it's something to do with the hundreds of thousands on tonnes of chemicals washed down nobody really knows the side effects of? Nitrates? I thought weed was good for invertebrates so in turn fish? river dredging, flooding, who knows? It's no good saying otters are natural and they'll find a balance in an overpopulated unnatural English garden
  3. Yes it will improve my chance by 50% but now you've highlighted the error of my ways i will use 4, Thanks
  4. Instead of cutting the line, just point the rod at it and stop the spool, you get most of it back. Boats drive on the right (at least on my local) and most of the time they really don't see people on the bank. I keep 2/3 rods out all of the time using backleads with the boats going over the top, this year i've only had the same cruiser twice and some blokes in a kayak both deserved captures.
  5. IMHO very much doubt it would cost an extra 500% to get these tasks carried out, the fisheries team already have a lot of gear and managers etc and its done off the £27, also your not going to get groups of shall we say non english people in the yorkshire moors carting off sacks of bream and tench, it needs to be done where the main population are. I was pretty annoyed when i turned up on the river on 15th to find out some EE's already fishing and had been down there all close season, they'd been reported many times by the bailiff apparently and no one had come to investigate, the bailiff even had their car reg. The EA had told the bailiff the guy who checks the locks would drive down and have a look, of course that was going to happen...
  6. Is that really how much it would cost to get the EA staff i have come across on the bank to ask to see my licence? Say the 4 fisheries people in my area are working off the current £27 licence fee, its not going to take an extra £120 to get another 4 doing continental shifts is it?
  7. Will the new proposed legislation stop fish theft? No and it hasn't, the EA don't even turn up to reports of people fishing in the close season. Last i heard there were 4 people working for the fisheries dept in the field in my local area and they spend most of their time electrofishing/surveying. I've never been checked for a license, despite being sat next to and seeing various different EA staff on many occasions, i even managed to get the guys repairing a lock to let me drive a mile down a gated track to drop my kit off as i turned up at the same time as them. This is because the people doing maintenance etc don't give two about anything other than getting their task done and fair play to them. If it was privately run things would be a lot different. I wouldn't mind paying £27 per rod if it saw my license checked, with bailiffs on 24hr call who actually turn up.
  8. I had no idea they were eaten that small, seems like a waste to me.
  9. If weight is not an issue for £200 i'd go with a second hand nash double top, i have the extreme version and its massive and sturdy with a sewn in groundsheet/inner skin and rear air vents. I have the overwrap too but have only used it twice when it was below freezing other than that the bivvy is plenty good enough on its own. A mate had the TFG bivvy and snapped a pole first time out, probably his own fault somehow We both were fishing on another occasion and there was a bit of a storm, i slept through it barely noticing it in a very old JRC and he spent the whole night up sitting on his bedchair holding the TFG up from the inside He got rid of it and ended up with the JRC STI bivvy which is very much worth its value.
  10. I fished this a couple of times 10-15yrs ago, the lake itself is an old quarry and is sunk down in the landscape so it cannot be seen from the road. Didn't really like it tbh otherwise i would of fished it a lot more whilst at college only a mile down the road. Not sure there going to stop it on account of dust and noise as there is a sand and gravel quarry next door. Maybe they could argue there is a potential for leachate contamination into pitsford resevoir, the areas drinking supply.
  11. I've got a small boat and while its my favourite investment its cost me a lot more than i anticipated. River license, insurance, roof rack, straps, elec outboard, battery, charger, petrol outboard, the boat itself and of course a life jacket. I think for the amount of use i've got out of it, its somewhere in the region of £20 a mile over 2 years It is great setting out in it though, can't stop grinning
  12. Thats a pretty big river to make a dent in and as has been said an expensive mix. I wouldn't be shy of baiting heavily as it will all get swallowed up. If i were to go at this i'd be getting sacks of hemp, maize and parti mix and instead of trying to get the bait into the proven area you want to fish, bait heavily into an area that's easier to reach. The quantity would be as much as i could carry. I'd be looking at baiting every third day back from the 16th on at least four occasions.
  13. People who moan about the greatest, most diverse fish species on the planet which provides pleasure for so many anglers, the humble carp People who happy clap about getting rid of invasive species while doing nothing to stop the potential importation of millions of other nasties. Another 99.8% of the human race. And whoever keeps ordering snow
  14. I'm on the standard version without using any forum apps I keep hearing about, speed seems about usual for a site with all the ads and Facebook add ons. Mainly when opening a thread it seems to want to load up 3 times before I can scroll down.
  15. I'd save the wastage and make the whole lot up and fill it in, nothing to lose. Draw everything up the river. It might pay to tip it in the day before or a couple of days before if you've got a load of it. If the mix has a lot of oils in it it may not be giving off as much flavour as you think in the cold water.
