  7. I have to agree and fishing a bait over 100 yards or so requires a lot of skill specially when weed is present, accuracy is the hard bit especially for tench . i watch the lads on thinking tackle and the way they fish at 150 yards with pin point accuracy is outstanding. like you say there is skill required in all types of fishing wether down the edge or at distance its all about knowing where the fish are
  8. yes i agree that you can fish the old or simple way with any tackle, the crabtree thing was just going to be to make it abit more intersting for the reader, and i know that every item of tackle new or old has its uses in different situation i was onlygoing to use old rods and reels just to show that its whats in the water that catches and not whats on the bank, and any rod and reel will catch fish its the setup that does the work. i myself have spent many weekends, infact sometimes weeks chilling out behind alarms but i was trying to say that this isnt the be all and end all of catching big fish. I never said that old rods were better than new ones or anything else the article was going to be about using simple rigs and methods to catch fish without forking out on expensive hooks and end tackle that isnt always needed. but as for the rose tinted glasses comment i think this is a little wrong, i may be a young angler but i do know what im doing and talking about and dont need to get angry and agressive to people and its something i wouldnt do, im a very chilled out and quite lad and just want to share my experiences and hopefully encourage youngsters into the sport showing them how to do it the cheap way as alot of people think you have to break the bank to catch fish
  9. thank you for your support and if you add me as a friend i will keep you updated all the way, feel free to keep a check on my blog which will also follow my venture http://theartofcoarsefishing.blogspot.co.uk/
  10. I would say that you have more chance of landing carp on most waters the Chris Yates style than launching out two bags on alarms and hoping for a carp to hook itself. Yes i use all the modern methods and tackle effectively but I also still fish the old way just as effectively and for your comment on nets etc, no i wont be using the old nets or barbed hooks because they're a danger to the fish and in that sense angling has moved on but what i wanted to do is show the old techniques still work today just as good as anything else and there is nothing better than catching a carp or tench in the margins with a centerpin. As for being disconnected with angling i would say its the modern style of bolt rigs and bivvies that's way more disconnected from the passion of angling than anything, and the jumpers for goal posts comment is complete silliness as i think a red topped float up against a bed of lilies with worm is far more likely to catch a big carp or tench than a boilie on a hair rig and a bag of pellet and would put money on it.
  11. no modern methods will be used, im going back to cane rods, wicker baskets etc simply to prove that youngster and people joining the sport don't need to be fooled by everything that companies try to sell them these days and how fish can still be caught the old way just as effectively
  12. hi im doing a blog and i want to do a episodes of a mr crabtree style thing, any ideas?
  13. My introduction and experiences whilst fishing with the disabled. i guess disabled angling have been a huge part of my fishing from a very young age, i have an older step brother 'Andrew' who has attended the regular family fishing trips since before i was born. as many of my family members are keen fishermen and woman, our fishing trips were never the usual and usually consisted of the whole family! we would arrive on the banks of the river Trent on a weekend and set out for a relaxing days fishing. as i grew older and i turned into a more competent angler i would always pair up with Andrew on fishing trips to take the weight off my dads and my granddads shoulders who for years had spent there time on the bank teaching others rather than having a relaxing days fishing to themselves. from there on i developed a huge love for helping out my step brother Andrew with his fishing and this more than anything started off my obsession with the sport. As using the usual float tackle was simply impossible for him we invested in bite alarms and this made his fishing much more independent, being able to hook and play the fish independently and the more he learnt the happier and more confident he became. from there i went on to help show him how to bait up his feeders and after a couple of years i taught him how to pole fish, the pole fishing was a good change as there were no casting involved and he could ship out the pole and land fish on his own, one thing that always amazed me was how he would feel bites through vibrations in the rod or pole sometimes before there had been any visual indications what so ever. in my view this shows an amazing connection between angler and nature that you cannot get from any other sport in the world. Angling facilities for disabled anglers I believe that disabled access is now a key in the modern fishing world especially as many more disabled individuals are now taking up the sport. I must say i do believe there is a huge lack of appropriate facilities for disabled anglers and it has to be said that much more could be done by fishery owners and the EA to make our fisheries much safer. The majority the fishing I did when fishing with my blind step-brother was on commercial waters, not because of the fishing but because the banks seem to be much better and easier for disabled people to access especially those who require pegs suitable for wheel chairs. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the fisheries in the UK who do cater the needs of disabled anglers like my brother Andrew and would like to give a huge thank you to Aston park fisheries which have been great to not only my step brother but also to many other disabled anglers and i would recommend there fishery to anyone looking for a fantastic days fishing! check out my blog for more info at.. http://theartofcoarsefishing.blogspot.co.uk/
  14. they are a lot of good waters around but recently our river stocks are being attacked by otters cormorants and other predators and are rapidly reducing small fish species! although i admit this doesn't apply to all rivers, i know the otters are making a massive difference in the Norfolk area and i my self have witness ever 15-20lb pike scattered on the bank with holes in there head were the otters have simply left them, I've also seen a few on rivers and lakes around Sheffield and the annoying thing is that fishery owners arent allowed to put a stop to it.
  15. very true i prefer fishing natural lakes rather than a hole that is haasively overstocked and simply there for profit reasons! although i will admit the fishing the amazing rivers fishing on such as the trent is now now a thing of the past and yet again the specimen agler has taken over!
