  1. Thanks both - I had a feeling that people would suggest this one! Now, final question - I'm aware that there is an "original" and a "new" version of the rod. Which one am I looking for? Or is there little difference? Thanks again.
  2. Hi guys, I'm looking to spend around £50 on a quiver-tip rod for general river work. Preferably 12ft or similar, designed for no more than 6lb lines if possible. I don't use heavy feeders, there aren't many Barbel in my local river, and it's not particularly wide or fast flowing.......I've been looking for a rod with a long white quiver-tip (like they all used to be!) but generally they all seem to come with a variety of tips with a small luminous green/red/yellow tips! The tip thing isn't a major issue I just prefer the way they look! Any advice/recommendations would be gratefully received. Fisherman85
  3. Phone, Thanks for the recomendations. Unfortunately the first link appears to be a templated text where the authors simpley replace the fish species and area of the country to suit the search! The other rivers you mentioned are slightly further than I'd wish to travel, with the possible exception of the Stour which I will give some further though....Thanks again. Inderblitz, the Guildford stretch of the Wey is owned by Guildford Angling Society and is all (as far as I'm aware) available for day ticket fishing. Either pay on the bank (if a bailiff comes along) or buy one in the tackle shop in town. Unfortunately their website is next to useless and doesn't give much information..... I've caught decent Perch out of the Broadford Bridge stretch in Shalford which is owned by Godalming Angling Society but again is a day ticket water. Fisherman
  4. I'm a huge fan of Perch fishing, on the rivers where possible. I know my local stretch of the Wey in Surrey (the Guildford stretch) has decent Perch and I've caught them up to 2lb, but I'd love to know if anyone knows of other stretches or other rivers round my area that hold a decent head of Perch. Look forward to your thoughts......
  5. Myself and a friend visited Bury Hill Fisheries in Dorking this past Monday. It's only 30 minutes drive from me and I'm ashamed to say it's taken me 28 years to finally get there! Lovely place it is too. Excellent tackle shop, well priced bait and kit. We fished Miltons Lake, mainly after the tench that the bailiff had told us were pretty much jumping out onto the bank in the days leading up to our visit (you may have seen the article about the 3lb roach that came out at the weekend in the angling press!). I had purchased a new rod - a Maver Abyss X 12ft float - and we float fished all day using corn, maggot, caster, work, pellet.......One tench of about 3.5lb and 3 or 4 perch not much bigger than the bait was all we could muster! A small crumb of comfort was that looking around the lake, nobody else was pulling much out either! For the minute or so that my rod was bent I could tell that I would enjoy using the new Maver. Lovely action, and although slightly heavier than I thought it would be, I can't wait to trot a stick float down my local river with it. I will definitely be going back at some point, it's a beautiful place and I'm sure I'll have better luck next time!
  6. Thanks for the responses. Viney, I'd be targeting mostly chub and the big perch that I know are in the Wey Navigation. I prefer by twin-tip you mean a quiver and and avon/float tip? I think I'd probably prefer an out and out quiver tip - the waters I fish don't really require any else. Thanks for that also Rob and Ken, I'll check both rods out.
  7. Hi all, I'm newly registered to the forums although I have had a lot of questions answered by you guys from reading other topics in the past so thanks for that! I live in Surrey and generally fish my local stretch of the River Wey which is owned (mostly) by Godalming Angling Society. My question today is, can anybody recommend me a decent quiver-tip rod for general river purposes. Preferably around the £50 mark. I'm trying to steer clear of a "power feeder" or anything like that. I don't need to cast huge distances, or huge weights, any my current £20 Shakespeare 9ft Omni-X quiver tip has caught me a 10lb river carp so I know a "power feeder" isn't necessary. Thanks in advance. I would be interested to know if anybody else fishes around the same area? Thanks!
