  1. Teach kids to fish a running line and float on a nice warm and sunny day. Use caster and hemp for bait and loose feed - set out to catch a few roach, gudgeon and perch. Young kids tend to find poles cumbersome and generally want fairly instant action - so no sitting behind alarm clocks on sticks for hours waiting for a run.....
  2. Just noticed Admin is in USA - I have done a bit of fishing over there - bridge fishing in Florida, beach fishing off both Atlantic and Pacific coasts and thoroughly enjoyed it all - people were very helpful and free with advice. Also spent some time in Hong Kong where I fished with some Chinese folk with handlines and caught a few minnow size fish of indeterminate species! Anyway - many thanks for your response - I hope to be an active member - at least until these pesky floods drain away.......
  3. Hi gents - sign in sorted now - problem was self inflicted (as usual)! Forty-five years working in IT does not make me immune from occasional cock-ups.... Yes - I mainly fish the river Thames around Oxford - The section that was always known as "Peter Stones barbell Swim" in particular just below the Wolvercote car park - must say I have never seen a barbell from there myself which probably puts my poor efforts in perspective with those of the great Peter Stone! I also tend to fish the Medley stretch although that can be a bit of a walk for my aging and aching bones - likewise Clifton Hampden. I tend to fish for Tench (Jubilee lake and elsewhere) in the spring and summer, bream in summer into Autumn where chub and Roach become the main targets. having a bit of a club match fishing background I tend to fish for a steady flow of bites rather than specimen fish - although I get the occasional bigger fish. At the moment I am waiting for the rivers to drop back after the floods and for the Oxford canal to clear a bit - will then look for a better Perch amongst a few roach.....
  4. just trying to get to grips with this system - been quite difficult to get signed in and can only do so through Facebook...
