Hello from Australia, I would appreciate some experience based guidance on the use of a Delta blue paravane. I recently purchased a blue delta paravane (150g lead weight) from the UK, which is the heaviest in the range. I fish for school or spotty mackerel in Moreton Bay in Oz (have a google), the legal keep length being 50cm (approx 20") and 60cm (24") respectively. In the relatively calmer bay waters( to the adjacent Pacific Ocean), these fish seem to take a simple 3" chrome spoon lure more readily in my experience if the trolling speed is quite fast, around 5 - 7 knots, , at a depth of 6 -12 feet below the surface. Bay waters are fairly shallow, averaging 20 - 40 feet in channel depth, and I try to troll in channel edges where the depth is around 16'-22'. Never tried a Delta paravane before, but my usual rig is a 150mm (6") trolling board or a pointy 8" yellow paravane, shaped like triangular jet fighter, and commonly used over here. I position the paravane or board 10 metres (30') behind the boat on 60lb line, and a single hook spoon lure 10-15 metres (30-45') behind the paravane or board. Using the above parameters of boat speed, line lengths and lure type, would anyone be able to advise me the likely dive depth of the Blue 150g Delta paravane , and any other comments you would like to make.
