I'd go with the cold damp weather. Best to start them off in damp tissue on the windowsill before planting them out for the pigeons & the mice to eat.

I'd be concerned about aproaching an Angler with a view to robbing him. If they got past the filleting knife & the bait cutting knife, then they'd have the Priest to consider, not to mention the sheer bloody mindedness of an Angler faced with loosing his kit. If a force 8 gale doesn't put an Angler off then a couple of hoodies would just be target practice.

I had to advise someone on the exact same thing this evening, the Bristol Chanel is a completly different animal to the south coast.

Just a short session tonight on account of the cold. Set up at Seatown in the late afternoon, incoming tide. Nothing happened till dusk, A few bangs on the rod tip, waited till it came back & then struck, First Bass of the year, about a foot long so safely returned. Stayed for another hour but it was so cold I gave up & came home.

Stopped one dead in it tracks a few weeks back, they started off with "You're probably concerned about rising heating costs" I replied, no, I haven't got a heating bill. That stumped him, obviously didn't have a response to that on his answers sheet
