I'm no expert either but recently tried my hand off the rocks in Cornwall for the first time using a WF9 intermediate. My logic was that there was less chance of disturbance through wave action as the line was just below the surface but that I'd be shallow enough not to snag on rocks and week in the final stages of retreive. I got one small bass in an hour or so of fishing using a sandeel fly (see the sea forums for advice on flies). Great fun!

Whilst down there I confirmed that much of the best fishing is on the tidal stretches and free. Didn't end up fishing the river but whilst At Lerryn in the evening at high tide the water was boiling with fish surfacing. Maybe next time. Had great fun saltwater fly fishing off some of the local rock marks and managed to get a small Bass.

Managed to get out for an hour so near Looe and hooked a small Bass on one of Snatchers sandeels. Was great fun and can't wait to get back to Cornwall for another crack later this year. Thanks Snatcher

Does anyone have any advice on where it is possible to fish on the East and West Looe rivers next week - both tidal and non tidal stretches. Particularly interested in where I can fish without a local permit or, if I need one, whether there are opportunities for day tickets. I expect there are some bass in the river and also sea trout and maybe a salmon or two but any advice appreciated. If there are any other small rovers, streams in the herodsfoot area that I could fish for small trout I also be interested in any info. Cheers

Hi Travelling down to Cornwall next week (near Looe) and am taking some fly gear with me to try fishing off some rock marks. Couple of questions: - Has anyone got a list of flies which are worth getting hold of? I expect there is the potential for a few bass or pollock - I know for a fact there are loads of wrass around the rocks opposite St Georges Island in East Looe. (the glass bottom boat reveals all!) I've seen some "crab" flies on ebay - anyone had any success with these? Finally, can you catch doggies on the fly? Couldn't escape them last year on my normal beach tackle! Cheers

Had a trip there today so answered my own question.

Had a nightmare at Cleveleys in blizzard conditions today, caught nothing. Thinking about Heysham tomorrow. Have had some good sessions on North Wall but wondered whether you can fish high tide with bottom tactics between the rocks and the outfall or further along near the old pier. Also, anyone know if you can parl on the caravan site or is it a mighty trek down the lane. Feel free to pm me! Cheers Dave

Cheers for that Alan. Yes, a small cottasge on the waterfront and about 2 monutes from the Heron from what it says on the website. Can't wait to get down there! We've got a week in Carbis Bay first in June so I'll try to get out on the Island then but the thought of some nice scenic creek fishing sounds good. In terms of sea marks it's a case of finding places where my better half can chill out for a few hours whilst I get the rods out. We had a bit of a drive round Falmouth last year and the area off the road that goes along the seafront near the castle looked as if it might be worth a shout - a bit rocky from what I remember but good access. The spot I'm really desperate to try though is under the Minac - spent an hour or so jealously watching some guys down there last year whilst we were sightseeing the theatre - I know which I'd rather have been doing! Hi Staying on the waterfront at Malpas in late August/September. Can any Cornish locals advise whether it's worth having a bash on the river for some flatties or bass? I know there's loads of sea marks round and about but it might just get me a couple of extra sessions if I can nip out the front door while my better half makes breakfast! Cheers Dave
