  1. Dont forget to change your AF settings. I'd shoot in "Servo" mode so that the focus will track the subject. Shooting in RAW will also allow you to adjust the white balance when your back at home in the warm
  2. Out today again after having a night of heavy snow.
  3. We had the first snow in Jersey this morning, so I was out at first light to get some pics. These are all straight jpegs from RAW, no processing at all. Will revisit them once the few sherries after work have worn off and do some proper editing. Jersey Snow
  4. Adobe Lightroom might be worth a look as well. I'm sure there's a free download trial on their site, so at least you'll be able to try it and see if it'll work on your PC. In fact here's the link to the page you need. LIGHTROOM
  5. votes cast. Excellent work everyone.

    Some birds

Taken this morning. Went out at 7am and most of the roads and ponds were semi frozen over....very cold too!

    Photo Of The Day.

Possibly, but there's a fairly messy background, which even at F4 is still a little distracting. The light was also really low, so didn't really have much of an option of stopping down a little without having to push the ISO up and I think this one was already at ISO800. Will defintaly be out this weekend though, snow permitting! Going to some of the local ponds and marshes, more as a recce than anything, but hopefully there'll be somethign about to "shoot"
  8. Great pics, well done everyone!

    Photo Of The Day.

One from last weekend. Really trying to get into Bird photography at the moment, but haven't really been able to grab much more time other than a hour here and there, practising on the garden birds. Going to make the effort this weekend though.

    I'm back!

Well after a 6 month break from photography (been going through the whole selling/buying/moving house saga), I've been very much out and about shooting as often as I can recently, work and weather permitting. Nice to see that everyone else has been doing the same! Here's a selection of some recent shots.
  11. I read something recently about the G10 and the (well respected reviewer) was drawing comparisions with the Hassaleblad 45mp digital back! Canon G10 Review
  12. Hello and welcome. Looks like a Titan triggerfish. My guess is that shot was taken in the Red sea

    Full Moon

Pretty good Fred. Something I've always had dismal luck at shooting!

    sunrise

Popped out yesterday at 5am to catch the sunrise. I actually intended to take this shot last week, only to get up at 5am and trek all the way down there to find it was foggy as %^**. Got there nice and early, donned the wellies and setup about 30 mins before sunrise. All shot with the 5D MkII, 17-40mm F4L at 17mm with Cokin Z Pro ND Grads (ND4 and ND8). Been trying my hand at getting a few B&W landscapes together for a book, but not totally sure on this one. Think it might have been better with a few fluffy clouds or less sky in it.

    Dark Man.

    Cracking shot...lovely lighting.
  16. Just picked up my Sigma 12-24mm this morning, so thought I'd go for a walk about the town and get a few test shots done, to see how good it was / wasn't. Seems pretty good with a little bit of softness in the extreme corners, but not sure if that's more down to the distortion. Pretty sharp everywhere else. The angle of view on fullframe is superb and really looking forward to using it for seascapes and maybe some star trails, although at 12mm I'd probably need a few hours of shots to stack to get any decent trail.
  17. Hope you don't mind, but I just a very quick play with it. Just burnt a bit more detail into the sky and sea......
  18. Here's my thoughts, but I'm a bit of a stickler for quality, as I dont see the point in sticking cheap filters on expensive lenses! I've actually been shooting more and more without a UV on. I read a good article somewhere from a pro that takes people on courses. One of the fellas was consistently getting poor results. The pro told him to take the UV off and sure enough the pics instantly improved. Nowadays I only bother with one if I'm likely to be shooting in conditions which could result in lens damage - salt spray, etc. I use a standard Hoya CPLR though and it's been fine. I'm thinking about getting rid of it though and going for their more expensive version (which I've seen on Ebay for the same price as I paid for my standard one). As for ND Grads, I recently moved over to the Cokin Z pros. Mainly because the Cokin P's are too small for wideangle lenses and a full frame sensor, even then I occasionally get a bit of the holder in the frame if it's not perfectly vertical. The filters are great, but £50 a go, so for a set of 3 ND grads, the holder and a 77mm ring, you can kiss goodbye to £200!
  19. Nice, looks like you got a good copy there too. Just waiting for mine to arrive now.....I went for the 12-24mm...fingers crossed that it's a good copy too.
  20. You'd think so wouldnt you. I certainly wont be buying anything else from them anymore, despite spending £10K plus there over the years. Mifsuds are quite pricey on the lens - £479. Bristol cameras have them for £372 with £10 postage!
  21. Well I ordered a Sigma 12-24mm in the week from Warehouse Express. Price was about the going rate, £372, but they wanted £57.50 to post it! Needless to say I cancelled the order!
  22. I always shoot RAW, purely for that reason - everything can be changed afterwards. That way I can concentrate on exposure and compisition and getting all the basics right, without worrying too much about whether I got the colour temperature etc right at the time.
  23. Yeah I sold it a few months ago. Although the 1D and the Ds were great bodies, most of the stuff I do is landscapes........the 22mp plus the bonus of a brilliant LCD, full frame, weathersealing, etc was too hard to resist and is much better suited to what I shoot. With the grip on the camera is about the size of the 1D and the battery life is superb - over 2 hours of 30" exposures last night in the frezzing cold, still left 75% using two batteries. Bit of a shame Canon didnt spend the extra pound or so that it would have cost them, and made the battery charger to take two batteries like the 1D.
  24. Hi Steve I used Imagestacker for them. The foregrounds were just lit with the ambient light. The slipway lighting was a mixture of halogen and sodium, a real pain to try and get the white balance right when I edited the RAWs. I still don't think it's quite right as the sodiums, together with the bit of the sea that it lit, look a little magenta still. The 22mp files are 14-15MB per JPEG, and 25MB. A full circle - I think I'll need some bigger CF cards! Do you know if that mapping software also covers Jersey? Oh, forgot to mention that the little electronic level that I posted a few weeks go about, was absolutely superb in the dark last night. Wouldn't be without it now for sure.
