  1. thanks for the info looks like a good bit of kit
  2. Hi am looking for a Day Shelter whereby you can add a wrap/front section and it does as an overnight shelter. I am not looking for an expensive bivvy that can take sub zero temps. I am considering TFG allround force 8. Does anyone have any experience of day shelters that are good for occasional overnighters?
  3. i was trying to catch carp and tench on my club lake this evening using cockles as bait, had one carp before the perch went on the munch and i had a few to over a pound, I was using a bolt rig (semi fixed) and that did not put them off. maybe try cockles
  4. prawns with krill concentrate added should kill for Perch but might be too good for the carp.
  5. Hi mate i do a bit of lure fishing and always use a wire trace when a treble hook is involved. i also went over to using braid mainline for lure fishing. You keep in contact with the lure more as there is no streach in the line. also you are more likley to get the lure back if you get snagged. Other than that i am sure that more expereinced lure anglers will post on here soon.
  6. I think its a case of the particular situation i was fishing in. under the rod tip in a foot of water and the fish were mucking about with the bait causing the alarm to bleep and the bobbin to rise a bit then nothing. When i turned off the alarm thre were still signs of fish but the signs developed into proper runs. i will still fish with alarms but in this situation, when i am fishing on rod and very close in with shallow water i will turn them off and watch the rod old skool style.
  7. thanks i will just leave it switched off from now on. i probably switch it on out of habit and mostly i am only fishing one rod on this lake any way as there is not room to fish two in a lot of swims so i am watching it all the time. thanks all.
  8. All very interesting answers thanks guys
  9. I was fishing the other evening and carp were coming in to the margin very close mopping up bait. I put the rig right in the margin and sat back. I started to get half takes the alarm would sound the bobbin move up half way then nothing. After a few of these I decided to switch the alarm off. After I did this I had three solid runs, two came off in the lilies, one carp was landed at 8 and a half pounds. I am wondering was the alarm putting them off, I know that sound travels further underwater and any way the fish were very close to the rod and alarm. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
  10. At least we could be part of the debate around what should be included in a constitution rather than the situation we are in at the moment where the HRA has bought in unintended consquences, although i am broadly in favour of the human rights act in principal and see it has bought benefits in lots of ways to protect the most vulnerable in our communities.
  11. As a starting point you might like to look at this site, http://tinyurl.com/3thk3ew
  12. Corydoras I dont want any taken away i want it to be more clear by our elected govt when they are applied so terrorists, phalandering footballers, rapists and dodgy private companies cant hide behind the act,
  13. Corydoras I dont give a toss what the french or Americans want, that is up to them. i am not against the Human Rights Act, its just that it has become a defacto constitution and it is badly drafted, This is why there are all these super injunctions as the courts are using the 'right to private and family life' to justify them, There is too much power being given to judges to interpret the Act, a bit like they do in countries that have written constitutions. To my mind laws are made by Goverments that are elected by the people not out of touch judges and these Kangaroo courts that protect the rich and powerful.
  14. i am sorry i dont agree with the judge, the internet is not out of control. It is regulated regarding such things as terrorism and child pornography. That is necessary. but the internet is part of our democratic right to live in an open society and have freedom of information. it is not up to the state or its organs to limit our freedom. I personally do not like kiss and tell stories but it is a price we pay for a free press which is a cornerstone of a free society.
  15. the human rights act is a written constitution via the back door. The uk does have an unwritten constitution though that is worked out through court precedent, eg the law of Tort such as duty of care. (see Donoghue v Stevenson) Social media makes super injunctions meaningless unless the govt. propose a censor on what we can see on the internet like they do in North Korea,
  16. welcome to the oldest and the best forum around
  17. the lake i was fishing today was the same in the end i caught a couple of carp to nine pounds by fishing very small pellet banded on a 14 hook 4 inches from the bank ie right in the margins over a bed of small pellets under a small float, when my brother saw what i was doing he did he same and had one. this lake has loads of carp in it i saw lots just milling around, i think they were getting into a pre spawning mode.
  18. Its Unfortunate in this litigious society he has to make a statement like that just in case, and to make sure that people know they are not meant to use boats on the water. I still think part of them will be worried that writ may come in., that is not to take away the tragedy of this event but I bet there will be some smart arse lawyer sniffing about.,
  19. free lakes in the south of uk are neglected litter strewn and have thier fish stolen, i prefer a club lake that is looked after, i have had bad experiences with free fishing venues
  20. Just to ask but is it not true that membership of the Angling Trust offers the individual liability insurance?
  21. I can really recommend people interested in science debates read this : http://tinyurl.com/6hpp2g5
  22. well done mate you deserve your success for putting up with the conditions
  23. I was after anything that would take a maggot and specifically chub, but to be honest the rivers have been is such a state I was not surprised at the blank. still nice to be out.
  24. Well done on your first fish of 2011. I went to a river stort side stream yesterday and blanked, using maggots on a light ledger and quiver. shame as it looked nice with some good flow and not too coloured, saw a couple of other anglers who also blanked. i will leave it now for a while depending on the weather.
