  1. I swear by fluro pinkie. my brother caught an eight pound carp last week when the weather started to get really cold on a single pinkie on a size 20. He was fishing for roach. I find they out fish ordinary maggots in the winter.
  2. In my local shop they sell artifical corn, Hemp, casters, dog biscuit, and even artificial bread. Its only a matter of time until they stock fake maggots. try those when they come out. (mind you the fake corn i have tried and its great)
  3. The first time i unhooked a Pike I was surprised by this slippery toothy thing with a mouth full a teeth and my hooks, added to the fact that you have to be careful not to harm them all added up to a pretty hairy time. I was with my friend who had caught pike before and i had watched a pike fishing video hosted by matt hayes which gave me valuble advice. AS tip if you are ledgering a dead bait keep moving the bait to induce a take. Good luck
  4. What is this all about? some comercial fisharies are going to ban people if they don't have a fish friendly net. but there seems to be some confusion as to what is a fish friendly net. Appaently it is if the mesh is "scruchy". I predict that there will be a lot of unhappy anglers unless we can clear up the confusion as to what is to be allowed and what is not. Any thoughts?
  5. If we are lucky with the weather maybe we don't have to wait for spring, last weekend (Jan 25th) it was 17 degrees C with a light SW wind, unfortunatly i was not able to fish but if we get any more I am off to my local pond for some tench, and anything else that swims. Last year I was catching tench in February near died back reed beds using pinkie over bread crumb. if I get a chance I feel it is my duty to fish, roll on better weather.

My suggestion for a rod wuld be the masterline (john Wilson) heritage avon rod. I own one of these and although not used it for mullet i find it can handle itself with chub, tench and medium size carp. lines from 3 to 6 pounds BS. two tops quiver and standard, through action. check it out.
