  1. I have a Shimono Technium Specialist Quiver. It is an awesome bit of kit. However I have to be careful when casting as the rod has built-in raised slots on the quiver tip to place nightlights ... and the line came sometimes catch on these. If you rod is similar, then this may well be the problem ?
  2. Frankly I think camo gear is nonsense. As my cousin pointed out, the best fisherman on any given lake is a heron - who simply stands still and doesn't find it necessary to don a ridiculously overpriced garment to catch fish. Stealth and minimal movement is the order of the day.
  3. Thanks for the review, very much appreciated. I might stick to the trusty Shimano's then. I wouldn't touch the Okuma Epix Pro's with a bargepole - there is a known fault with the bale arms.
  4. I assumed the same ... but I'd rather know for sure !
  5. Hi All, Anybody use or used the TFG baitrunner style reels. They look good enough, but not read any reviews anywhere
  6. Cheers Rudd - you probably saved me from having to deal with a very unhappy missus !
  7. I'll have to miss out - is he planning anymore ?
  8. Is there any benefit in soaking hemp in water/molasses - will the taste be absorbed (and therby 'improve'the performance of the hemp - or at least make it slightly different ? And when I come to boil the hemp, should I simply add more water and boil in the water / molasses mix ? cheers !
  9. Chevin, The crisp factory closed down many years ago - 20 or more I guess ? - I was lucky to fish the mill pool adjacent to it a few times as my grandad knew the owner and he allowed us to fish it (it was private). The crisp factory is now residential apartments, and the pool is nothing more than a puddle surrounded by reeds. The stretch above Turvey bridge to the weir is still good and the Pike are still in the weir there (as I found to my cost). There are plenty of good Barbel and Chub around. The river has been choked with weed (now dying off) and the water levels very low and gin clear. The fishing has not been good !
  10. ... and the new bedchair arrived - next day ! Thats awesome !
  11. It is in stark contrast to the customer service I got from Maver a few years back - awful - I'll never buy another Maver product simply out of personal vendetta !
  12. Being relatively new to session carping, I purchased a JRC 2 leg specimen bedchair - primarily cos of the price. It is a decent bedchair, if a little heavy. However, mine developed a fault and I contacted JRC. As well as being very professional and clearly disappointed that one of their products was faulty, they also offered to replace the item unconditionally. I mentioned I'd look to upgrade to a 3 leg and JRC have agreed to send one free of charge at a significant discount. For once it seems we have a company who place stock in customer service. I shall always look at JRC products over any others as a result. I am a happy man !
  13. I live in Northampton, so come through on my way to Turvey. If you want a chat - PM with your phone number and I'll give you a call ?
  14. I fish there regularly - both sides of the bridge (Northampton Nene and the Rushden Club side). I REALLY like the stretch owned by Rushden Club. This year the river has not fished well for me (5 trips since start of August). The lack of water is the main problem, with the river level incredibly low. The weed is always present during the summer months but has reduced significantly over the past 4 weeks. Until we get a spell of wet weather, I shan't fish the river. Last year was pretty good (for my first year barbeling) and I managed 12 fish to double figures. This year - none !! Where do you live Puzzled ? Happy to discuss any aspect of the river ... from my limited experience there.
  15. I could always snatch a few minnows first and try them ?
  16. lure fishing is not really an option. I have spotted at least 6 Jacks loitering about the area too - and frankly I don't want to catch them as the disturbance will no doubt spook the Perch. I hope to return next weekend - when I shall be 15 mins earlier and walk the 3/4 mile in the dark !
  17. All, I have a few books I am going to sell ... but first dibs to AnglersNet members. Let me know if you are interested ... Carp the Quest for the Queen (1st ed h/B) For the Love of Carp (1st ed h/B) Cypry the Carp (2nd ed - 1986) Big Water Carp (1st ed h/B) Carp Strikes back (2nd ed paperback (blue cover)) All are in virtually perfect condition PM me if interested by the end of the week or I'll flog em on eBay Cheers
  18. I didn't catch it ! - Usually I could blame my angling inability .... but for the first time in living memory, there was someone fishing the weirpool ! So a slight change of plan and my cousin and I went stalking instead. He managed a Chub just shy of 5lb - from 2 ft of water on a stretch of the river I could jump across. Nice result.
  19. or worms into the river. Argyll you got me all panicky already !
  20. Thanks Argyll - nothing like a bit of pressure to ensure I cast into the farside bush, slip down the (steep bank), snap my quiver tip and kick my works into the river ... I'll get my coat now ....
  21. use forceps - they are probably in your tackle box any way. Or pick them up with your fingers - they don't bite !!!
  22. Tomorrow I AM going to catch my 1st one. It lives in a small weirpool. I know it's there. I have lost it once, only 3 feet from the net. It was significantly bigger than the 2.5lber I landed the same morning. I'd guess it to be a minimum 3lb, possibly as high as 3.5lb. I'll report back on my abject failure to land it tomorrow.
  23. then remove the pyramid selling bit from your website
  24. If you have a well trained (preferably large breed) dog, and the fishery allows it - take it with you. Not many people will argue with a German Shepherd (even though mine would probably only lick them to death)
