  1. Could it have been an old article regurgitated ??
  2. I don't see how fishing can be compared to golf. The latter consists of knocking a ball around some 18 fields with holes in them, and although the scenery might change, the game doesn't. On the other hand, fishing can range from the small bamboo rod with a bit of line and a hook catching minnows etc. from small brooks, up to an enormous high powered boat trailing large baits for the likes of sharks and marlin. In between, the types of fishing and fishing tackle are there to suit all tastes and wallet size. We anglers might have our own favourite types of fishing, but the variation is so great we can all enjoy what we want. There will always be those who crusade for one particular style, or one specific maker of gear. I use a mix of modern rods, coupled with centrepin reels (cheap ones), Mitchell 300s reels, electronic bit alarms, quill foleat, plastic floats, the list is endless. I have kitted out the little lad and his older sister with less that 25 quids worth of tackle, but we all catch fish. We do however love to write on forums such as this to 'ave a go' at those that differ from us, but in between that a lot of good advice and guidance emanates. Anglers never seem to be above helping fellow companions of the art, and long may it be so. Hey ho, off to dangle a worm somewhere !!
  3. Elton I seem to have 2 copies of this post. Can you delete one Ta
  4. Found at the bottom of the official list. I dont think he will put that one back quickly !!
  5. It might be more popular, but not so much money in it. Ronaldo's transfer fee is probably bigger than the total spent on fishing and fisheries in a number of years. Perhaps we should introduse transfer fees between clubs fo top class anglers
  6. The large seat box complete with carrying strap, side trays, and seat which is velcroed to the lid. Almost new, excellent condition. Collect only in the Bracknell Berkshire area £20 or near offer. Can email a photo if required
  7. I have a large set of these, inherited in a job lot I bought years ago. I have never used them and suppose I will pass them on to the next in line. I have tried them in my 4' deep garden pond, but they are a bit fiddly to balance. I think modern floats have overtaken the need for them.
  8. Copied this from the BBC's article about spin offs from F1 "On another, the attempts to reduce the amount of rubber in contact with the track has led to the design of fishing line with a star-shaped cross-section, reducing drag on the fishing pole's guides and allowing anglers to cast further" Has anyone heard of this wonder line, and what knots would you need
  9. Have you tried the local tackle shops. Some have it all in stock. Quick phone call will confirm
  10. I only use one rod as I have trouble keeping my eyes on more than one float at a time
  11. I see for sale 2 keepnets in one stink bag. They are described as one for carp and one for silver fish. To me they look identical, except for the colour. Which one do I use for which fish, or is there really no difference
  12. Before spending your hard-earned, give it a whirl. With most rods of this type it's a lot down to preference

    Help

I used to live in Fareham. The Eastleigh club used to have some nice lakes and part of the Itchen. They have a website, www.edac.org.uk. Various other day ticket waters in the area. Just have a Google. Fareham has a friendly tackle shop, Hansfords Ringwood club have the Avon and Stour plus others Hard choice, as I don't know Cambs area. Good luck in your new career
  14. I spoke to Interparcel, and found a colleague who also recommends them. Door to door for £8.04. That seems like a good deal
  15. 2 of the rods are over 1.5m. What carriers are recommended, bearing in mind I don't have someone at home every weekday
  16. A complete set of gear from a neighbour who is sadly no longer able to fish. 4 rods, 3 reels, brolly, seat, box, floats trolley, keep nets, etc, etc. Now the domestic controller has a £500 bill for her car, so I might have to sell some of it on :(
  17. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/wiltshire/7853070.stm Check out the above. Keep an eye open for numbers sizes and new locations
  18. Thanks a lot, I will keep an eye on the tube length
  19. We have an ultrasonic cat scarer and some green plastc coated gardening wire strung around the pond, at a height of about 15". Attached to the wire are some old CD's dangling about 3" below. The wind rotates them and not only does it seem to keep the unwanted visitors away, but gives a great multi-coloured light show at night !!,
  20. What is the best way to protect a rod/pole. I have mine in a tube, with end caps. Should I just seal the end caps with gaffa tape, and put the address on the tube in a secure way, or should the tube be wrapped or what ? Ta
  21. That looks very similar. How do I connect a powergum loop to line. I have never used it before
  22. I have been given a packet of Bungee links. They are stretchy, about 8" long with a loop on one end, and a small swivel on the other. There is a link swivel which is stopped by an oval fixed stop at the loop end, with a sliding round stop at the other, which itself is stopped by a crimped length of rubber about 3" from the swivel end. Can anyone enlighten me as to it's use, as I have searched on Google, but cannot find any description of how to use it
  23. Did anyone else catch the programme last night on BBC1. Towards the end was some amazing footage of silver carp in the USA jumping 3 metres out of the water, and 40lb carp leaping into boats. Still available on iplayer, or On Demand on Virgin
  24. I don't know whether to put a sail, oars, pedals or a 3litre engine on my buggy for next year. Bet I choose the wrong one. Perhaps I should stick to a desk top !!
  25. I see Angling was well represented with the above !!! Looks as if you push a pen for years you get something, but the only awards for angling/fishing were to some anonymous clerics in official departments in Scotland, Wales and Hull.
