  1. I am not sure. There is a bar/restuarant nearby (on the side of the canal/river) called Hooters. It is very close to the BBC and the new NHS place. The nearest streets to it are London Road and 'City Link'
  2. Hi All I am currently staying at the Nottingham City Centre premier Lodge and I have noticed that there is a little bit (or maybe even a big bit) of canal close by. Does anyone know whether or not this is free fishing or where I can get a day or weekly permit, and what would I be likely to catch?

  4. I'll second that. I caught my first mullet last night. It was 'only' 3lb 10oz and it went sort of tug, tug, tug and then it took off. I could not back wind fast enough for it and had to just 'let go' the reel handle. It felt like I had hooked a combine harvester! Keep at it, you'll catch one in the end.
  5. 'Tis OK. I kinda knew that you knew that anyway and was just having a tease . Loch Lomond even has a paddle steamer on it, and although it's been a few years since she turned a paddle in anger I reckon her engines can output a tad more than 299 bhp. [ 30. 6. It's only England that has p*xy little lakes Newt. Scotland has some fairly big ones. The largest is Loch Lomond. It is about 25 miles long, 5 miles wide at the widest part and up to 600 feet deep. I know it not exactly Lake Superior, but it is superior to most of the English 'puddles' [ 30. 7. Me too. I 'ran away' to join the Merchant Navy when I was 16 and I loved the sea. I left after 9 years because after seeing a few old seaman I decided that I did not want to be one, but I never regretted going to sea, and truth be told, I'd do it all over again given the chance. 8. Corydoras bags his first mullet. Landed the first mullet of the season and the first of my life last night. The fish weighed in at 3lb 10oz and was taken on a number 8 barbless with a big hunk of bread on it. No pictures because I have just moved house and can't find my USB card reader at the moment.
  9. I am sorry to hear that Steve. I know what it is like, it is not that long since I lost my father too. They were probaly jeeps, the first Landies were heavily influenced by the jeep design. Regards Corydoras
  10. Well it would not have tasted as good if it was still wriggling.
  11. If you mean River Carping by Neil Wayte then you can find a few copies for sale on abebooks
