  2. So another range of tackle hits an already crowded market and manages to offer much the same as every body else. Ultra-slim, and with a fast, responsive tip action combined with a progressive fish-playing action Not heard that before. It could describe any rod. I'd just like somebody to produce a range of 3-piece 11' & 12' specimen rods, or is it just me that finds 6'+ rod sections a menace to carry round. This is not an attack on Matt Hayes in particular, it's just his range of rods shows the basic selection virtually everybody makes. Good luck to him in his new venture any way. Cheers SteVe

    Centrepins

I have several 'pins, reviews of which I will forward soon. One recent acquisition though is a 'Harlow' 5" dia. 1.2" wide. It runs very smoothly on bearings, which the previous owner lubricated with furniture polish and I can’t work out how to remove them to give them a good clean and some proper oil. If anybody knows anything about these reels can they let me know. Cheers SteVe

    Swan Mussels.

The Swan Mussel became a protected species in 1991, so you shouldn't be taking them, in fact I think it will be probably be illegal to even handle them. Cheers SteVe
  7. Tench is also very nice to eat. In france it is put in cages in a stream for a couple of days to get the muddiness out of it. Coarse fish was popular in the country at one time. In fact if you ever watch those B&W British films from the 50s, look out for fishmongers, you often see bream, perch and pike on display.
  8. The killing for fun argument always worries me, as many anglers, myself included, kill for fun, so we can have some fun pike fishing. We don't all get our dead baits from tackle shops or fishmongers. Cheers SteVe
  9. Bought the Adcock Stanton. It's a 4" model. Used it today to catch a couple of roach. The reel seat appears to be plastic or somthing but seams to be quite strong. Might get round to giving the Leeds a good cleab and oil now. Cheers SteVe
  10. A quick but not entirely fool proof method to test for lead is simply to scratch it with a finger nail, if you can scratch it and the scratch is shiny then it is probably lead. Cheers SteVe
  11. Reservoir type trout lures work well, just pinch a BB size shot in front of them. Cheers SteVe
  12. Anybody have any idea of the value of a second hand Adcock Stanton, Theres one for sale in a local tackle shop. Looks virtualy unused.
  13. I don't know if it's still available but An Introduction to Pike Fishing by David Batten is quite good. ISBN 1 85223 135 1.
  14. The URL for the North East Venue Reports and Catches messageboard is:- http://pub30.bravenet.com/forum/show.php?u...rnum=2574516229 Cheers SteVe
