Only just seen this, so probably too late, I have the Glide, don't like it at all, very heavy and unbalanced, it's tip heavy and hard work to hold for any length of time I'm that price range I'd look at the Drennan X-tension, I also have one of those, and it's lightyears ahead of the Korum, and as an added bonus can be carried made up in a standard 12ft rod bag Mat

Hi all, My brother, who lives in Dunstable (near Luton) tells me he wants to get back into fishing more regularly this year. Our "goto" fishery in the area, Tingrith, seems to have vanished off the web! Anglers paradise has a mix of both "specimen" carp and cat lakes and mixed lakes. they also have some more exotic stuff that you can't fish for in many places such as the Koi, golden orfe and golden tench. As for a couples holiday, the Villas are very comfortable and you are about 8 miles from Bude, but a car is essential if you want to do some sightseeing, AP really is in the middle of nowhere! however the fishing is a short walk from the Villas and bar area. I really love it there, couple of pics attached, but I do either go alone or with my (angler) brother. a non angler would probably get bored if they didn't have transport to leave the site while you are fishing. It's not cheap - but I highly recommend Anglers Paradise in Devon. been there 3 times and booked up again for June this year. and I'm going to keep going back until I get a 5lb+ golden tench The wife and I also really enjoyed Cherry Lakes in the cotswolds, great for a chilled out couples break as you literally fish from the patio of your lodge. Well I've never had a complete dunking, the closest I've had was a canal bank giving way and me sliding in roughly to mid-thigh before I managed to scramble back out! I do usually also keep a spare t shirt and trackie bottoms in the boot of the car "just in case" Mat

Cherry lakes - Although the lodge I stayed in did have steps from the lodge to the fishing platform, not sure if any of the others would be suitable

Would a method type feeder work better, using a very tightly packed ground bait? Something like expo takes a long time to come off the frame, and can carry a lot of particles too. Mat

I've been trying to get out at least once a week. had plenty of action but nothing really worthy of getting the scales and camera out but good fun on light gear. tench to around 3lb, some stillwater barbel (hang him!!!!) F1's bream etc I'm off to Anglers paradise in a few weeks, hopefully the scales and camera will be busy there Mat

Nope I will be busy driving myself down to anglers paradise for a week! I'll be going the M3 way as I suspect the M4 might be busy, even have lanes closed etc in the Windsor area Mat

Actually the angling direct near me is much better than the local independent. They always have plenty of maggots in stock, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable (mainly about carp fishing admittedly ) and they give a discount if you show a local club book/ticket at the till! As opposed to my local independent who regularly runs out of maggots, and has let me down twice when I've asked him to order in large (£100+) items of tackle. and seems to make the prices up as he goes along. I've really tried to support him but it's hard going I drive the extra mile to get to angling direct nowadays. or just shop online Mat

I've been checked a few times, can't remember exactly how many, almost always on day ticket waters. Although I do remember once being checked in the middle of nowhere on the kennet and avon canal - at least a mile from the nearest other anglers and carpark! Mat

My results haven't been quite as spectacular as Athony's but I've only managed a couple of day sessions so far this season - I'd rethink the no maggots thing personally - the vast majority of my wingham tench have come to simple feeders with a bunch of 4 red moaggots on a size 12 hook. my approach seems similar to his, putting a lot of attaction and a small amount of feed in the right spot - I use open ended feeders, and "explosive feeder" groundbait heavily laced with red maggot, again looking to put it at the base of a bar Mat

At least with a snap election we only have to put up with two months of complete ****** rather than the usual 5-6 months!

Any one tried buying one from a post office - I've seen a few reports on facebook of people being refused a licence unless they give a mobile phone number!!

I've always wondered why "anglers" luncheon meat is over 3 times the price of supermarket stuff! same with sweetcorn . . I use supermarket stuff and add my own flavoring if needed - works out a hell of a lot cheaper! hint - cut meat at home, put in plastic bag, add a big spoonful of GLM powder, give it a good shake and then store in the fridge overnight.
