  1. You have no idea how I handle fish , so please do not post a summary of what you THINK I do  I assume by the personal jibe that the part about the pictures being on this site smarted a little then. I also assume that you CONDONE this type of fish handling.
  2. Why would a post that isn't libelous nor slanderous and (nearly!) doesn't contain bad language be removed? I can't remember a thread being removed which didn't contain one of the above, so fair's fair! A case of pointing the gun in slightly the wrong direction maybe? OK, fair do's, maybe not removed, I was angry when I made the post. What side of the fence are you coming down on though Gaffer. Is it bad fish handling or not?????????
  3. I see nobody noticed a problem with his fish handling skills then........
  4. Having just looked at the article regarding Martin Salter, can I just say that he needs a BIG lesson in fish handling, this guy has no idea  Dangling fish about on the end of a hook is not what I want to see on this site  When I used to go fishing for other species to carp, I used to see kids doing this, I used to try and educate them and tell them that it was wrong. This guy is no kid and should know better, so should this site. Below is a statement from the said article:- The best thing about having Martin as our representative is that he is a proper fisherman. I know this sounds like an obvious thing to say, but he really knows his stuff. He’s fished for 35 years, and understands the ins and outs of our sport like the rest of us. He really knows his stuff, does he now, judging by those pictures, I would say he knows sod all about fish care  I suppose the same old thing will happen regarding this post, it will either be removed, or if left nobody will back me up. Heads in the sand does stop this kind of fish handling  [ 15. August 2002, 09:59 AM: Message edited by: Chris Shaw ]
  5. When we used to fish for eels many years ago now, this is how we used to hook the baits up. From what I recall every run put an eel on the bank. The rig was always a running rig. Lobworms:- Thread the line using a long thin baiting needle, right through the length of the lobworm, then tie on the hook, and then gently pull the worm down , so that it stops in the gape of the hook. Dead baits:- If we thought the deadbait was overly big we would cut it down to size by removing the tail end, we used to use bleak from the river of about 3 - 3 1/2 inches, thread the line through the length of the deadbait so that it comes out through the mouth, tie on the hook, then pull the deadbait down to the hook so that the hook is sticking out from the side of the deadbaits mouth. I have caught loads of eels using the methods above. I have only fished for eels on rivers and we always used to let them run with the bait. Hope this helps
  6. Great stuff. I once saw a TV program in whitch some anglers were fly fishing for tope. They were using really whippy rods very similar to a fly rod, and they were using a big version of a freshawater fly. The tope would rise for the lure, roll onto their backs take the fly(lure) complete the roll and away.
  7. Those damn things can be heard all around a 16 acre lake when they go off. Poxy things should be banned. Why buy a buzzer with no volume control, people are are buying the stainless ones for £99 each, HOW MUCH Then they stick Blue Tak in the speaker on the front to quieten them down. You can get good reliable alarms these days with volume controls, not really liking to advertise these people, but the FOX ones could be worth a look.
  8. Elton talking of cars reminds me. There is an advert on the TV at the moment , I think it is for a car of some sort, I say it like that because I have no real interest in cars. The song that plays through the advert is something like this:- I'm as sticky as glue I'm going to stick to you Etc etc It is a female singer playing an acoustic guitar. I am trying to find out who this singer is. The song lyrics leave it open for some abuse, but I can take it.
  9. Here is another one. Rubber bait bands. The elastics that are used on braces for teeth, they come in different sizes and strengths, loads in one little bag. Only place that I know to get them is a orthadentist, not sure about the spelling, sorry. In laymans terms a dentist that does bracework.
  10. Do you use flavours/attractors? Do you use oils? Do you use essential oils? Do you use bait additives? Do you use amino acids etc? If you answered yes to any of the above and are fed up with paying tackleshop/bait supplier prices. Then follow the link below http://www.connock.co.uk Cut out the middleman
  11. I seem to recall that the attractor called Sting sold by, sorry about this (Nash), when field tested seemed to attract bigger carp especially commons. Now, the thing is is that just good PR for the attractor or does it it indeed work in such away. That is all I have I am afraid Gaffer, sorry I could not be of more help on this.
  12. Who else feels that one of the Kents premier carp fisheries has been spoilt in recent years by the addition of large French carp being introduced. This has been done I feel just for money reasons and not to enhance the fishery as such. I am not a keep it British fanatic by any means, and feel that Freanch carp have a place in England for those that want to try for them, but to put them into an already established carp fishery that has no need of them, only for attracting more money is a great shame in book.
  13. For those that like it classical, not my personal choice, but for those that do. You could listen to Julian Bream playing Swan Lake I suppose ------------------------- Julian Bream, being a classical guitarist, for those that do not know.
  14. I am a tad confused with backleads flying back up the line and hitting tip rings. I have never ever had this happen. You cast out, then clip the backlead over the mainline and then let it slide down the line to the required distance. On striking and playing a fish does the backlead not just slide down the line towards the rig end. The only time I can see the back lead flying down the line is if people are casting with it on the line. As I say I am a tad confused with this
  15. Newt A trained bait beetle is the way to go, and have been used for many years in the UK. This is a beetle/bug about the size of a large cockroach, it's wing casings have been geneticaly modified to accomodate a boilie. Getting the idea yet, OK, I will continue. You place your baited hook into the modified wing casings, the lead is then placed into the special tray, which comes with the beetle. The beetle has no problems with weights upto 6oz. OK, now release your beetle into the lake/pond/pit etc, it will seek out any carp that are in the area, on approaching a carp, it will press itself flat against the bottom,(this action releases the lead from the beetles back,) then as the carp nears the bait, the beetle will rasp the mainline back to your bankside alarm with its backlegs. Your special Beetle rasp alarm will then emit a cherping sound, this is a warning to the angler that a carp is near. When the carp is within 6 inches of the beetle, the beetle will then time its jump very very carefully, the timing of the beetle is all important at this stage. It will watch the mouth and gill movements of the approaching carp, and if timed correctly it will launch itself, bait and all into the carps mouth, the beetle will then exit the via the gill rakers of the carp and head back to you at the bankside. Leaving you to play the carp. One problem that I have found with these beetles is that their homing instincts are sometimes not quite upto scratch, and they can, and do return to the wrong angler. So it could be a good idea to paint your name and email address onto the back of your beetle, should it not find its way back. Have fun [ 01 August 2002, 09:55 AM: Message edited by: Chris Shaw ]
  16. I used to be really really staunch, keep the pound, untill. The only thing that would be to our advantage would be that, we as an island would stop being rip off Britain, as people here would have to charge the same as the product is abroad. Here is an example to make you think about this. For the computer that I use there is an art package called, Arteffect4 nad and add on effects pack. Here in the UK the Arteffect4 prog is £40 pound, and the effect CD is 30 odd pound. Now I make that £70 odd. In a country that uses the Euro, this product and the add on effect CD is €29, that is £18 for both, bit of a difference is'nt there.
  17. Why do I think of a Certain tune on this one. Da da da, da da, da da, GHOSTBUSTERS. Now seriously though, you could try:- Kevin Nash used to do an additive called `Sting`. This has an aniseedy smell. I read somewhere that this additive could attract pull commons, many many flavours/additives for some reason do not. Seeing as it has this reputation, it could be worth a try at catching something different... Edited and reworded because of a badly worded sentence. 18. What roads are you looking at? One way streets, Cul-De-Sacs, what? Bait alarms, who makes these? Has anybody used them? Do they work on the same principle as a bite alarm? Sorry could'nt resist it
  19. No wonder the PC and Windows became what it is today. www.thehumorarchives.com/humor/0000603.html LOL [ 31 July 2002, 03:13 PM: Message edited by: Chris Shaw ]
  20. Thanks for the reply Julian, but we did not really want to talk to him as he was a bone of contention from when we used to fish there.
  21. Out in sunny Essex there is a place called Fairlop Waters. There is a big lake mainly used for boating, some fishing was done there by a night syndicate once. Then there is the small lake, loads of carp, not easy to catch, but a smashing little water. There was thirty from there not so long ago. My question is, does anybody know what has happened to this water, somebody who uses this list went for a walk over there and said that it is now choked with weed, all the notice boards with the rules on have been removed and there was nobody carp fishing. Infact there was nobody fishing it at all, well except for one person, that he did not care to speak to. Anybody know anything???????????

  23. I seem to recall reading once about dolphins being trained to attached explosives to enemy shipping. I wonder if one of these could be trained to attack bait boats
  24. I have just read Gaffers piece on the hair rig. What Mr ________s and Mr Middleton actually found was that the carp were not scared of the hook, but of any material that the hook was attached to. The hook was treated as a piece of debris and would be blown out as such. Part of their test was to put some grains of corn onto a hook, no line attached, the carp in the tests would suck in the baited hook and then a few seconds later blow it out just as they would a piece of uneadible rubbish. When a length of line was attached to the baited hook, the carp would suck in the baited hook, but when or as the attached line either was felt or tasted it would be blown out faster than you can blink. The fish that had taken this in then went into panic mode, fish erect and bolted to the other end of the tank. What followed gives food for thought, when this carp bolted to the other end of the tank all the other carp went with it. After some several hours the carp started to approach the corn again all be it with suspician, all the free corn in the tank was eaten, but the baited hook was left alone totaly, now, bear in mind only one of those carp sucked in the baited hook. 25. Aa ah, the dreaded slow sinking float syndrome. I used to get this whilst float fishing for carp, never did connect with one of them. I think this is more than likely caused by the bait dragging the bottom, either caused by undertow, or the float being blown along in the wind etc. The only other reason I can think of, is that it could be fish of some decription maybe just brushing the line between float and bottom. I do not like this reason, as at sometime if you struck you would get a bump or even foul hook a fish at sometime. [ 22 July 2002, 03:24 PM: Message edited by: Chris Shaw ]
