Morning Ian, there are some cracking gudgeon at Warford; they even put a bend in the rod!!!
-
One week to go and then I'm free. Nobody checked anyone on my flight so the system cannot possibly work but I did my bit.
-
Cracking fish Ian. The mere thought of you putting your hook in the cork makes me laugh. I have a spare hook holder I can give you when I see you.
-
Nice fish and Tackle Ian.
-
I have a Zippo which works sometimes. Not overly impressed with it.
-
And what about the pins??

You could lose a finger with spade end hooks! The discussion went on and on and became silly. Even I'm trying to tie them albeit with the aid of a tyer. You have been alluded to Ian in dispatches.

The incessant rain, the resultant mud and indifferent fish are enough to put anyone off fishing. I'm happy to fish in the rain as long as I can set up and pack up in the dry. Cold and dry is acceptable and I look foward to having a go.

Just got back from France and it was raining on the approach and hasn't stopped. I nearly turned back. It's grey , miserable, wet but not cold. Anyway I'm only here till next week and then it's a week in Dubai. It's cool there now at 33c.

That's put me off my tea; I feel sick nowxat the thought of it lol

All by design so you have to buy a new one. It's called built in obsolescence and it should be illegal .

I do hope you are right Chesters.

I looked at a boat for sale the other day. Now they are a money pit and only for the wealthy. The one behind yours truly was for sale at £900,000. I could have just afforded the tender. Most of these boats in Antibes rarely move so are a waste of money but a big status symbol. Might be good fishing from one though.

I meant from our discussions and the pics on eBay . You also told me you would give it an outing so a good combination. I have cleared by inbox on FM so will reply to your pm's when they come through which might be never.

Great pics Ian and I recognise the rod but not the reel.
-
Ian holds the world record for the number and speed of hooking, of maggots on a size 14 hook. It's mesmerising to watch.
-
I looked at a high end Century beachcasting rod with the following feature , Gearbox Design butt and Autoclave Technology. I would have asked but was in a hurry. What is that?
-
I know. I thought the weather back home was abysmal but not so judging by your great pics and fab fish.
-
Here's a nice sunset over the hills.
-
Cracking fish Ian as usual . I'm being to feel envious.

Are you still in the diplomatic service? Carry on like that and the colonies might rebel. They know what they are doing when it comes to fishin believe me.

Your first link John relates to Baitcasters proper which cast significant distances in sea or fresh water but admittedly with a heavy lure above 3/8ths oz. They are very light in weight around 210g as opposed to multipliers. The second link relates to classic multipliers for sea fishing. The third link relates I think to closed face reels like the Abu 506 and 507. It's the Baitcasters in link 1 I'm interested in. They have various drags including the thumb to prevent or at least reduce birds nests. The Shimano ree I referred to has a digital computerised drag supposed to virtually eliminate birds nests as it detects the reducing velocity of the lure and applies a drag equivalent to your thumb. I am going to respool my Abu Silvermax with braid and give that a try on the sea. I was interested in people's view of the Shimano DC reel.

I wonder how many members own one these and use it regularly. I have an Abu which is right handed and I've never really mastered it. Being an idiot I often forget to reset the magnetic and normal drag when changing lures if significant weight differences are involved. I think a left handed reel would suit me better ie you cast with your right hand( one handed) and reel in with your left hand as I do normally with a fixed spool reel. At the moment I cast with my right hand and arm but switch to my left to reel in. Shimano have brought out a digital electrical drag system on their Curado Baitcasters to prevent( supposedly) birds nests on an overrun and whilst I've read mixed reports on them, i wonder if anyone has used one. Phone may have greater knowledge of these reels as they are very popular across the pond.

You'll all know what the outcome might be soon enough. I doubt any of us will have scope for happiness however.

As I type it's raining quite hard and i think it will be like that the whole day. It saves me watering the plants. I'm going to try floating caster next time I'm there. I assume no float, no weight just a freelined hook with a caster or two on it.
