  1. Didn't the Scottish Carp Group put lots of stockies in Danskine that went belly up and died? Just curious as to wheather the original wildies remain now or died off at the same time.

Most if not all the wildies from years ago were lost in a fish kill well over 10 years ago, the water was then used as a trout

fishery for a while which did not do well and then the SCG took it over.

We tried to get it back to a wildie fishery, as we were lucky enough to get hold of some wildies for re-stocking, they did

very well through the first summer but a severe winter which saw the water frozen over for long periods spelled disaster with

most of the new stock perishing :( it was heart breaking to see, I had the Fisheries Research Service on site doing all sorts of

tests and taking all sorts of samples from nearly dead fish! Sepa had full analytical reports done on the water quality and all the tests

from fish and water came up clean and we can't say for sure it was an oxygen problem due to the ice as it had melted by the time readings were taken.

In the end we stocked with modern strain of carp, they went in at an average size of around 5lb and now there are fish not far off the 20 mark which is encouraging, these fish are a mix of stunning fully scaled, linears and big plated mirrors plus a hand full of commons that are doing very well.

  2. I once fished for wild carp in a place called Danskine Loch in the Borders region many years ago. Not sure if they're still there but it sure was a beautiful place to fish and the carp were true battlers for their size. :D

    Hi Jacksprat

Danskine is still there tucked away in a wooded valley in East Lothian and probably still looks the same.

It's one of the Scottish Carp Group waters.

Do you have any photos of wildies caught from the loch ?

    Cheers

  4. Hi All

I would just like to say a huge thanks to Mark Holmes for putting on a great show for us last night, there was a lot of thought gone in to making it something our guys up here in Scotland could relate to and not just photos of big southern fish which we don't have access to.

The talk was very informative and gave the guys plenty to think about with their own fishing and the response from everyone at the end was they all had a great night.

The usual mega raffle also went well with plenty of happy winners of some great prizes so a big thanks to everyone that helped with the prizes and to everyone that dug deep into their pockets helping to raise plenty of cash for the Scottish Carp Group.

Many thanks again to Holmsey, a true gent and welcome back any time

    Cheers

  7. OK???? 'but' . . . . meaningless if you dont tell us what you did, a sight of the Exif as well? Is it possible/practical with an affordable DSLR or Compact type 'D' camera, and an affordable 'Elements' version of PS??? :headhurt: yes, my head does hurt!

Sorry CJS2, just tried to get the exif data for you but i-photo wont let me copy it ????

But the main thing I did was under expose by 1 stop, the rest in PS was simple levels and dodge and burn old dark room style

and I'm sure elements lets you do that.

One thing I did notice with that shot is that it was one of around 20 shots taken all trying different things with various results

and thats the great thing with digital , it's free to play and learn !

There were plenty of crappy shots also :D:headhurt:

  9. So why are they better than any of the other countless bait companies out there Saul? do you know who is behind them? How long have you been using their bait and what others are you comparing them to?

    Hi Budgie

The Enzyme is no ordinary bait, check out the website for info.

I do know the guys involved and they are spot on, Pete's knowledge of bait and attractors etc is amazing, most of it going straight over my head though

I've used many of the going baits over the years but these baits do have an edge, watching the reaction of the fish on Withy

pool feeding on the Enzyme convinced me to give the bait a good go as I had baited the same area with some other baits to watch the reaction of the fish, most of which was left untouched ?? the other baits were baits I would normally be confident in from well known bait firms.

The result of that guest session on Withy was a new PB @ 39lb 6oz and a 21 + two others lost which is good going for a first visit to a place like Withy where the fish have seen it all but I'm sure the bait had a lot to do with the results as the rod fishing with one of the other baits received no action at all.

    Cheers

    Saul
