  1. Anyone still getting out? 2nd session of the year for me managed this beauty out of a local mere, still need to get me some scales no idea of weight but a pb for sure
  2. Hows this for dragging up an old thread? Anyone still fishing the flashes? Mainly westwood, waddicars or scots not into silly long walks, unless its worth it
  3. Ive dabbled in using a market float before but never really used one on an extended basis before (past trips to wingham so maybe only 4 or 5 times) Most of my fishing used to be on Canals and small ponds when I lived down south so never had call to use one. I have moved to less than 5 mins drive from Pennington flash so I want to give it a proper go this year. I have heard it can be tough going but with the new shifts at work I should be some time to give it a proper go. Im rambling ! Back to the question looking for some pointers to using a marker setup. Ive already found out that the mono shockleader is very important which I never realised before not for the shock of the cast but to stop the braid tangling on the cast and locking up the float ! I was planning to have a walk round the flash today with marker setup just to check the depths and maybe stubble across some features. I think I got about 10 casts but then every cast the braid wrapped around something at the business end so I had no way of telling what the depth was. So today as a bit of a failure but I did make it to the tackle shop to get myself some 40lb mono Setup: 2.5lb tc carp rod - feel something a bit more beefy needed ? 40lb braid - stolen from my redundant seafishing reel - lighter newer braid needed? Using off the shelf lead and marker float Any tips would be gratefully received
  4. Been away a while, moving house twice in 12 months once from Hertfordshire to Cheshire then again but only casting distance ( Was easier to move the fridge and washing machine on a sack barrow than put it in the van!) I'm back fishing now, with lots of new places to try out in the northwest. Have Pennington flash just along the road so fingers crossed for a big bream this year Hope to get a few trips to the ribble this year too Anyone one else local to Haydock / Leigh
  5. About the same as me minus the boat fishing Moved up north and all tackle is in my mums garage down south no room here for all my toys at the moment Due to start looking for a house with a proper sized toy box now I know things aren't that grim up north (far from grim infact)
  6. Has anyone had any experiance of these storage containers ? Due to be moving soon and not sure if new place will have a garage or secure storage for tackle and bikes so looking into storage ideas http://www.mk-containers-ukwide.co.uk/a-fl...dastore-1-c.asp Looking for something that I can put up and take down easy when I move again! in about 6 months
  7. Will start of with a huge thankyou to everyone that makes the trip to Wingham possible I can't remember all the names but you know who you are I arrived Friday afternoon to miss the carpark that is the M25 and a silly oclock start on Saturday morning. Met up with Andy and Budgie that were just setting up on the carp lake nice to see them again after a two year break from Wingham Steve took me up to show me my swim for the weekend to save a bit of time the next morning morning then it was back to the club house for some food and an early night. The morning arrived and I was first in the queue for a lift to my swim My swim was at the top end know as right canadian. Things looked really good a southwesterly wind blowing into the corner of the lake I was sat in its where I would of picked if I had been doing the chosing. Steve told me the main features and looking at the google maps photo I picked a few features to fish. Turns out there was quite a bit of weed in the area infront of me a couple of spots were not as thick but had to be very carful not to pull the feeder or lead back too much. The fishing was bit slower than what I would have liked but it was just great being at Wingham nice to relax away from work for a weekend. I managed one pike about 2lb in the end this was one pike that took the worm rather than the feeder that was chased many atime as I reeled in. I decided a change of tatics on the last night as things were not happening risking the chance of getting eeled out I decided to put some chopped worms in the ground bait, testing in the margin when it hit the water it lost all its colour and realy stood out which didn't look good so need to darken it up some how. Thank you Mr Mole I remembered some mole hills on the way to the peg so off I went and colected some nice dark soil to the mix ! The last night I even left a worm out on one of the rods to get some action other than just the pike but to no avail I cast settle down to have nap and it was 7am the next morning ! I swopped both rods over to running feeders with the chopped worm groundbait and soil for the last few hours at Wingham for this year. At 8am I had a huge line bite (rods up in the air with long bobbins) bobbin went up and down 3 times then a fourth it went much quicker (I should of sat on my hangs) I didn't I picked up the rod Struck into thing air I didn't need Steve to tell me what I thought he just confirmed looks like I had the bream in my swim, If only I had sat on my hands ! Bite less for another 3 hours Another great year at Wingham - Catching is just a bonus!

  9. I haven't got that much in loose change down the back of the sofa
  10. Have you tried releasing the hook from the clamp before tightening everything up?
  11. Mishap ? You can't come on a forum and just say mishap Im not sure how it will go as haven't used it yet but bought a cheap beach caster off ebay for some spoding, I rarely fish places that I need a spod so wasn't going to spend a lot. I think I will get a few looks spodding on the grand union canal !
  12. Wonderful idea, I was lucky enough to attend the 2006 Wingham fish in
