  1. I'm only an occasional visitor to AN these days - but always took the time to read Gerry's contributions. A very sad loss indeed.

Lyn sums the situation perfectly and I'm sure a tribute such as a bench would be fitting.

  2. Hi Darrell

We just go to the club membership secretary who just happens to own the tackle shop. Get hold of you club & ask. You will have to attend a teach-in to fish for pike. I can always get you on that and then we can have a day together. I am going to get an Eastleigh one in the winter for the grayling.

Hi Lyn, Thanks - that would be great. Eastleigh have lost the best grayling beat, but there are a few others that are worth a go. If you could let me know when the teach-ins are I'll make sure I attend. looks like a good club for pike fishing. Also the stretches of the Loddon look pretty impresive.

  3. Well done to Farnham for the respect shown to Pike - an example for others.

One question though - my club -Eastleigh and district have exchange books with Farnham and district, as quoted in my book, is this the same club?

If so, how does it work if I were to do an exchange and wish to fish for pike?

  4. See you all in the morning!

Don't forget a tin of corn - Itchen grayling are suckers for it.

For the chub - a BIG piece of flake.

Also some nice fit Pike - all of which are over 10lb - well they are on my scales ;)

Anybody who hasn't been here before is in for a treat - although the weather is very cold it's a great place to fish.

Another point, do you get a discount for dropping at a depot with couriers?

We are nowhere near a depot, but just out of interest!

No - I just drop it around because it's close to work and theres nobody at home during office hours.
  6. argyll:

Darrell, just out of interest, do you have an account with Intial City Link or do you just turn up and 'pay as you go' ?

Yes, I have an account - they offered

me one when I dropped a parcel off, not any cheaper but you get a pack with manifests, labels, etc. so it speeds it up.

You can turn up and pay and go - a rod costs £13.63, next day service with insurance included.

  7. Have used Initial City Link several times in the past, due to Royal Mail length limits.

Never had any issues, they're local and I drop the parcel off at the depot.

One thing I've found useful for sending rods is to pack them in the cardboaed tube that carpets are rolled around - Just visit your local "Carpet right" shop and they'll be happy to give you as many as you want - just cut them to length.

Sorry for the late reply, but I have been out fishing constantly for nearly a week. The Teme started off very slow as the fish had not yet spawned, I believe they have now and so should start to feed, but I am going to give it another week before going the Teme again. I have however been having some great sport on the Severn where the fish have spawned and are now hungry. I have had 45 Barbel in 2 sessions with numerous 9's, with two going 9lb 15oz. I have had 6 fish that were 9lb 12oz+. As for baits on the Teme I use pellet wrapped in paste or halibut boilies and feed hemp and pellet. A piece of meat is worth a try at dusk.

Hi Paul, excellent mate, well done - you obviously don't need any Gym membership fighting that many fish! lol. Look forward to finding some time to meet up again.
  9. Would love to come along - but I'm away next weekend.

Anybody who's even thinking about trying piking should make certain they attend - it really is a gift.

Budgie started me piking. Going with an experienced piker is the only way to start, and few people have as much experience as Budgie !

  10. Hi guys - so pleased that you all enjoyed it.

I think the LIF lived up to expectations, only thing missing was the chub !

The fishery lends itself perfectly to a fish-in, cars allowed alongside the swims, and an informal relaxed attitude by the owners / keepers.

I think this might be an annual event !!

Great to meet all the faces behind the names. Well done to all that broke their grayling duck !

John ( Kleinboet ) did it in style with a 2lb'er, whilst Russel ( Ratty ) follwed with a 1lb beauty.

Budgie led the way with several crossing the magic 2lb barrier, my best was around 1 3/4lb, but I mustn't mention it in front of Lynne

    ( I'm sure she'll forgive me....one day ).

The day finished up nicely in the White Swan - Budgie you should write a book ! Thanks to you all and look forward to our next get together !

Darrell mate - sorry to bother you, but I will still be needing maggots for Sat. Someone posted that 2 pints aren't enough? I'll leave that to you.

I will be leaving Cheltenham about 2pm Friday, if Poss, can you find out about path before then as I won't be near a 'puter.

    Cheers

Maggots will be sorted today - I'll get you 3 pints of mixed. Will post regarding track later this morning. 24Hrs to Brekky!! :D
  12. Pretty much how I feel Tog. Anybody have any views on legal standing etc.

Car is just over 3 years old, outside of warranty and has had one main dealer service - that being the only one required. Service intervals 18K. ( Personally I think this may be part of the problem )

  13. Have to say I'm gutted. Wife was driving our Scenic DCi today and it seems the Turbo went. Result clouds of black smoke, she pulled in switched off but the engine kept racing, probably feeding on it's own oil.

    Asking round seems it's quite common - it's only done 33K !!

Repairs will probably run into thousandes - god knows how I'll pay for that.

Any advice, knowledge, etc. gratefully received.
