  1. The poll says one question yet clearly there are two  If I answer yes to the first one then it means no to the second and vise versa
  2. Peter, on the basis of any publicity is good publicity, you do more for the CA than Mr Jardine
  3. Probably get shot down in flames - but nearly always my floats are avons ( sometimes chubbers )bulk shotted about 8 - 10" from the hooks. typically 5BB's plus. Change the hooklength set up to suit bait / species. I can honestly say I don't fish stick floats / shirt button patterns etc. - but still get my share.
  4. Guys, looks like the Brekky at the fisherey is a non - starter. They're struggling with a caterer. They suggested the Concorde Club, not too far away. It's likely to be around £7.50. What do you think ? Asda will be cheaper !!
  5. Regarding the unhooking mat, I use one of the ones that fold in 3 with elsticated straps to keep it together. It has a D ring, which I clip to my back pack with a small clip. Mines made by Shimano - but there's many out there. http://www.go-fishing.org/upload/files/IMG_1346[1] http://www.go-fishing.org/upload/files/IMG_1347[1]

I've provisionally said all of us ( They have to provide a caterer ), if it's only a handfull may have to revert to Asda.
  7. There's a kithchen at the fishery, I've asked the people there to look into putting on a breakfast for 20. They said they'll come back to me. will let you know. If it's OK would everyone rather eat and meet there ?? Up to you guys. PS - If Budgie's offering some river piking - put me down !!
  8. Sounds like a good idea to me. I'll try to think of somewhere local. Clint - any ideas ???
  9. No problem, if you confirm, then that will be 20, which is the limit.
  10. No problem Graeme - you're very welcome. That makes 19.

  13. Hi guys, been away for a few days so here's an update: Price is per rod, so two rods means two tickets ! So probably best to fish one rod at a time. I've been sent a copy of the rules, details etc. fishing is from 9.00am to one hour after sunset. Fishing is from Wards pool down and includes two carrier streams. Car reg. nos. to be written down and given to the keeper. Worst of all the rules state any pike under 10lb are to be killed. I, for one, won't be fishing for pike now.
  14. When trotting with a fixed spool reel, a finger on the spool allows the line to peel off in a controlled (albeit slightly jerky) manner. When the float dips, the finger goes down hard on the spool as the rod is lifted to strike. Tripping of the bail arm only occurs once the fish is hooked (if you miss, you simply let the float continue on its journey). At least that's how I do it (or did it before I bought a centrepin for my mullet fishing) TL - leon Agreed Leon, for these reasons I favour a centrepin - smooth action when trotting and instant response. IMO it's the perfect tool for this particular job. As to elitism, extortionate prices etc., well my second hand Arnold kingpin came in at a tenner more than my second hand Shimano baitrunner. I've never used a "wooden" rod or had the compulsion to dress in tweed. Carbon fibre and Drennan Drenchwear for me, oh... and of course a CP
  15. Lee, I accept that your skill level is such that you can achieve perfect presentation with a fixed spool. Unfortunately my own experience is that the act of tripping the bail arm, caused a split second in which I often lost a fish. Also holding back and controlling the line I find easier with a centrepin. As I say, I do not fish the mighty Trent, most of my trotting takes place at a little beyond my rod tip.
  16. For trotting top and bottom floats, centrepins are perfect - giving absolute control. I know some will suggest that in the right hands a fixed spool is equally acceptable. My hands can't be the right ones. For me a CP is easy and enjoyable to use. That said I don't fish rivers that demand a long cast, just a few rod lengths. As to the Wallis cast, I'd love to perfect it but my own style is a mixture of allsorts - but it gets the float " nearly " where I want it most of the time For other situations, stillwaters, etc. then for me it's a fixed spool. Different tools for different jobs.
  17. OK correct me if I'm wrong. List now reads: Budgie Argyll Cyranne 12 Andrew Burgess Kleinboet Mat Hillman Clint Seph Seph's mate Ratty46 Vidar6 vidars girlfriend. Budgies mate Darrell Badexcuse...... And me. Upto 15, still room for more.........
  18. Thanks Chris have sent an e-mail to Gary. I think there may be someone based in Fareham, Hants, anybody know if that's right ?
  19. I've got an Adcock stanton 'pin that could do with an overhaul. Could also do wth the front nut on the spindle replaced. Can anyone recommend anybody ?
  20. You could also pop over to Christchurch for the Royalty
  21. Hi guys, No need to worry about the deposit, I'll pay them £50 and the first 9 that arrive can pay me a fiver and the Fishery £12. After the first 9 just pay the fishery £17. I don't think they need a deposit from each person, just something to know that we'll turn up. I'll bring along a trotting rod, a pike rod, and a ledger set up so if anyone fancies a go trotting with a pin etc, then no problem. Be nice if people got to try new methods. Any body have any questions, need help with directions etc, then please fire away. Anybody else fancy this ? Theres still room for more. a Wallis casting demo maybe ? - Alan ??? Good place to put that 'pin through it's paces.. Elton ?...Leon...?....?
  22. Stayed there about 3 years back. Had a long weekend break during Feb half term. It's ideal for what you're looking for, there's a couple of lakes - I had some fun with some small carp and bits on the top one, and that was February !! The main lake had a few bivvied up, but if you get the right chalet you could fish from your front door ! For the family there's a pool, club and a dry ski slope. Also quite close to Weymouth which is a nice seaside town.
