  1. I went to el guna which is just down the road from where you are going. Most places fishing is not allowed due to the beaches being privately owned by the hotels that make money offering dive holidays. There is a break water in hurghada where all the locals go fishing, I don’t know what they catch or methods used but I do know that the local kids will do anything for simple tackle (hooks, weights and line) so make sure you take plenty. I did manage to find a local boat to take me out fishing for the day. The skipper tried very hard to find us some fish but it was a bit poor. Small wrasse and grouper all we caught so we spent most of the day snorkelling as it was very hot.
  2. Hi, did anyone record tightlines on Friday. I was supposed to sky plus it but for some reason it didnt record. I would like to get a copy of it as my son had a picture shown of his first 20lb carp. Any help would be appreciated.
  3. Thanks for your help. 50lb braid it is. The rod is probably rigged for fixed spool as it has a large 1st ring and no trigger grip. Any recommendations on which fixed spool reel? Lastly has anyone any idea who I need to contact to find out if it is illegal to use lures with lights or not? Tight lines Leigh
  4. Hi, I have just got a lure rod which will take lures up to 72g, I was wondering what braid I should use and fixed spool reel or multiplier? I have also got a few lures with lights in them, do these red lights actually make a difference. Thanks
  5. I used to fish a water that was full of jacks which gave good sport during daylight hours (15 runs a day) i never caught a double untill i started staying after dark. dusk was rubbish but between 8pm and 10pm was very good for the bigger pike. first time i tried it i had a 14lb and 16lb. the following week i had the same 16lb a 17lb and a 19lb. I have never hooked a jack after dark. one thing i would say is that you have to be 100% confident in your ability to safely unhook your pike. I used traces with just one trebble hook or a large single because i found that the pike would swallow baits without moving off. I also found it better to fish the margings close to deeper water.
  6. Hi i have just bought a jrc dave lane sti umbrella and was wondering if any one could recomend a quiver that will take the umbrella, 2 made up rods, landing net and pod? Thanks
  7. The reason we have been given for the draining of the lake is that the council engineer thinks that the dam had sprung a leak, as there are houses below the dam they could not risk the dam wall giving way. It was therefore necessary for the water to be drained ASAP. I have asked to see the engineers report and the council rep has promised to do what he can. The lake is still empty but the council has promised to allow a small puddle to remain at its lowest point. At the moment there is puddle around 20'x 40' and around 8" deep. This is mainly for the red-eared terrapins, which were resident at the lake but may have been flushed together with the crays and the fish. The lake will stay empty (apart from the puddle) until the engineers have finished their report and the leak found and fixed. The volunteers who have been netting the fish over the last 4 days have now given up, they estimate that they have saved 90% of the fish in the stream but we don’t know how many fish were lost down the drain. We will have to wait until the middle of may before our next council meeting where the EA and the council engineers will be giving there reports.
  8. StuMac and Lid. I am one of the fishing clubs fisheries manage team and only visited the site because a club member told me that the fishery had been drained without me being told. I went there with my camera to get some photos in case the club wished the claim compensation for loss of fishing. At the time I was not aware the fish were in the stream, I assumed that everything had been above board and that I had not got the message from the council. When I saw all the fish I rang the club chairman to find out if the council had contacted him, he rang the rest of the other club officials. No one had been told of any work planned for that lake. When I found the fish it was 5pm on Tuesday, by 5.30pm 8 members of the club were up to there knees in silt scooping up as many fish as they can before it got dark. The lake had been flushed buy laying a 24" drain from the outlet stream to a manhole behind the dam wall, then the dam wall was breached using a digger so the water went down the manhole into the pipe and into the stream. When the flow had stopped a channel was dug so that the rest of the water could be emptied into the manhole.
  9. Hi all, frodo.uk in answer to your question, the perch that were removed by the nets man were 2 over 3lb. It may be that there was more caught but only 2 were restocked into the other lake. It is thought that several were destroyed for health checks. All the perch that were rescued were under 8oz. These fish were rescued from the outlet stream, which is no wider than 4'wide and 2" deep. This stream flows for approximately 1/2 mile, then it flows underground for another 3 miles before entering a small brook that later forms the river mole at Gatwick. nugg, yes I do have a rod licence and I have had one for the last 18 years. Last night I had a meeting with the local council who were unaware that the fish were in the stream and who were more than a little shocked by the actions of the fishery management company who were working on behalf of the EA. The council engineer who had overseen this work was no able to attend this meeting but he was less than happy with what went on. The local EA officer has also been contacted and he said that the council employed the fishery management company who did the work. The council has apologised for not informing the angling club who still had 4 weeks left on the lease but they refused to discuss compensation. A meeting has been arranged with the EA officer, the angling club and those responsible at the council. The council have also asked the angling club not to involve the press, as it is there opinion that this will not help the situation. The club will discuss what their next step will be after the next committee meeting.
  10. The EA recommended a fishery management consultant who netter a few carp, pike bream and perch then flushed the rest of the lakes inhabitants down a very small stream. This happened on the 4th of march. The Angling club that leases the water found out on the 16th of march, and that was by 3ed party gossip. One of there fishery management team visited the venue on his way home from work that day. On arrival the lake was completely drained. When he inspected the outflow stream he saw several dead roach. Closer inspection revealed 1000s of roach and perch in distress in only inches of water. Within one hour several volunteers were on hand to try and rescue as many fish as possible. An estimated 300lb of roach and perch were saved from a certain death. They only stopped when the light faded and it became dangerous to carry on. These fish were rescued from no more than 30 yards of stream. When they left it was obvious that there were still many 100s of fish still left on the receding waters. Later that night it was revealed that the EA had witnessed these fish being flushed into the stream and did nothing. The following day 2 anglers didnt turn up for work, they were back at the stream netting another 100lb of roach rudd and perch. It also came to light that a very large number of signal crayfish had been released into the streem.

  13. i have had some good catches on prawn. If you have a water which has sturgeon in give prawns a go. i had 8 on my first morning. best was 18lb 12oz. there were a few other caught on meat but i had 3 times as many takes. I am also thinking of trying river shrimps which are sold in some tropical fish stockests. they feed some of the big fish with them. They are kept alive in brackish water and cost just a few pence. I recon the perch will go ape for them.
  14. can anyone tell me were i can get the ringtone for a nokia 6810 that sounds like a delkim bite alarm? Thanks Leigh
