  1. My father, who's 69 and still a keen angler, finally came home from hospital yesterday having spent over 3 months in various hospitals including Barts, The London Chest Hosp and our local hospital in Essex. He suffered a mild heart attack in mid-May, and a subsequent angiogram showed 3 arteries were severely blocked. His consultant recommended a triple by-pass op, but was not allowed home due to the seriousness of his condition. The op itself was put off several times due to my father contracting a chest infection, infected arm (due to an IV line left in too long), the London bombings (not much we could about that one), and his surgeon going on vacation. He finally had his op last Thursday (which turned into a quadruple bypass), and came home yesterday. He was told it would be another month before he could fish again (which upset my mother more, as she loves her fishing too). Anyway, he's back home now and looking forward to a 'proper' Sunday roast, and a spot of fishing before the autumn sets in.
  2. Have to agree with that point. Despite the condition of either team, when the record books show that England won the Ashes series in 2005 (thats optimism for you!), they'll be no comments that the England side were the best that the selectors could muster at the time, and that we played an under-par Aussie team. On the face of it, we're 3/5 of the way into the Series and England are not behind. Lets look forward and get behind the lads.
  3. Thanks for the advice guys. Much appreciated
  4. Does anyone know where I can get the above to fit a Dell Dimension 3000, as I want to add a second hard drive to a PC. The drive is mounted vertically as shown, but the Dell website makes no mention of this sort of kit. Half an hour trawling websites did not come up with any solutions either. Any advice would be appreciated.
  5. I managed 140! A Visionary Philosopher apparently.
  6. Congratulations to you and Dorothy. All the best for the future.
  7. I didn't go into work today, as I have been suffering with a bad cough all week and it finally got the better of me this morning. I work in Aldgate, a stones-throw from the tube station. Relatives and friends had been ringing my mobile all morning believing I was at work, but the network had been down. I found out about the atrocities around 11am, when a relative rung my home number to leave a message, and said he was glad i was ill! I have spoken to work colleagues and friends from the City, and they face the prospect of walking home east of London, as no tubes are running, and very few BR trains. Roads are gridlocked apparently. I don't personally know anyone affected by these bombings so far, but the aftermath lingers for a long time afterwards. I had a friend seriously injured at the Baltic Exchange bombing a few years back, and have been with a quarter of a mile of a bomb going off in London. It's certainly no picnic. My sympathies go out to anyone affected by these latest incidents. Terry
  8. Tried it, but couldn't get audio to work. There was some tip about firewall settings, but used the phone in the end!
  9. I think it's fair to say that cricket isn't the most popular sport in schools these days, but I believe it's down to equipment, places to play and safeguarding the welfare of the children involved, etc, not necessarily lack of enthusiasm on their part. I'm involved in our local cricket club which has over 60 colts playing ranging from 10 to 16 years old, with some girls included. They all enjoy their coaching sessions and playing the games after school and at weekends, to the point where we have been inundated at coaching sessions following a Club 'Open Day'. There are many safeguards to have to put in place though, such as batsmen and wicket-keepers having to wear helmets, etc, which can make it more expensive than some sports, although we have a range of club equipment for them to use. I think the reason we might not get the depth of quality as some other countries, lies in the infrastructure behind giving these youngsters the opportunity to develop beyond colts cricket into county and country level. It seems from experience that county coaches pick up-and-coming young players from 'particular' schools and clubs, whilst some secondary schools and everyday clubs don't get a look in. Well, thats my pennyworth, and I reckon we'll give the Aussies the best 'run for their money' they will have seen in a long time !!
  10. A friend of mine was having problems with his PC and asked me to look at it, having successfully 'fixed' various others PC's. It's a 2 year old P4 machine running XP with SP1, which had no firewall, AV or spyware/adware S/W. He was unable to use his broadband connection (it's AOL) due to the amount of cr@p running in the background trying to access the web. I loaded AVG, Adaware and Spybot on and run them. There were a total of 250+ viruses picked up by AVG, and in excess of 2800 spy/adware progs on there. Needless to say the PC ground to a halt trying to cope and delete them all, so I carried out the clean-up in Safe-Mode. This worked to a point and cleared up much of the mess, but there were many programs on there which continued to start up in normal mode. So, went back into Safe-Mode and used Spybot's registry clean-up facility and unchecked a few boxes (didn't make a note of them, stupid boy !!). Now the PC wont boot into Safe-Mode but boots normally to the user selection screen. On selecting a user, it starts to load their personal settings and immediately goes back to the user selection screen. That's as far as it gets. I think the PC's totally screwed as there was too much cr@p on there in the first place. Looks like a reload from Restore CD's, unless anyone has any bright ideas. (Sorry about the length of this thread, just wanted to get all the details on it). Regards..
  11. That ride looks heart-attack material. You have to be seriously warped (or sadistic) to design something like that !!
  12. Just finished reading 'The Increment' by Chris Ryan (ex-SAS, have read most of his books). About to start 'Garden of Beasts' by Jeffrey Deaver, another author I quite like. I too have read all of Dan Brown's books, and was impressed by the amount of detail and research which must have gone into writing them.
  13. Reminds me of a few guys in the Forces..... Private Parts Major Bumsore General Anaesthetic Seaman Staines and ..Lance Corporal
  14. Check to see if there is a 'paper thickness' lever. If so, it may be set too wide (to allow envelopes, etc to print). Push it to the smallest setting and try again.
