  1. I believe the close up shots are taken by air, not by satellite. Still doesn't answer your question though!
  2. Although this was clearly theft, no-one should ever send cash in the post, unless using an insured service. As I recall, cash is not covered by the standard Royal Mail compensation rules for ordinary post.
  3. As already stated, there are sure to be several causes. However the effects are very evident. I see many many stretches of rivers and streams that should be teaming with aquatic life, including fish, but they are not. If you visit areas of the world less impacted by humans, you usually find far more fish and other water life in the rivers. Sweden springs to mind, although much of their waterways are not really rivers. When I went there in the 70's there were fish everywhere; not sure if it the same now though.
  4. Merry Christmas and happy new year to all.
  5. I find that Coproxamol works very well for me and whereas the 30/500 codeine/paracetamol just gives me a headache. They finally made Coproxamol unlicensed a year or two ago after a previous attempt. However there's nothing wrong with it really and you can often persuade a friendly GP to prescribe it for you. I have several GP friends and they say they have a number of patients who find that coproxamol works for them better than other stuff. I tried a number of other painkillers from my GP after Coprox was finally officially unlicensed, but none work anything like it. It is slightly addictive, so I try not to take more than 2 - 4 a day and miss the odd day.
  6. Thanks folks. Has anyone got experience of the Sundridge or Korum two piece sets?
  7. After having my passport and driving licence stolen in Spain, I changed my surname in 1989 on my own using a Statutory Declaration. I had found a sample in the library and no-one questioned me at all. New documents simply arrived in the post as I applied for them.
  8. Hi Newt - I've been away a while, but seems like I've haven't at all. Is it perhaps that you posted that same clip abut two years ago?
  9. Hi Folks - I've been off all forums except one I moderate for ages now because most of my immediate family are either ill, injured or both. However it's getting to Christmas and I need to choose my own present. I've only been fishing twice all year and one time in the summer at Mevagissey harbour I discovered in the torrential rain that none of my waterproofs are actually waterproof at all. So what waterproofs do you recommend I get please and should I get one or two piece? I've been looking through the latest Bennetts catalogue and was thinking of getting a cheap packaway set for summer and something like a a Sundridge IQ Arctic two piece suit for autumn/winter. What do you think?
  10. Try going into view/toolbars and ensure that standard is ticked.
  11. Actuations Body A – 9,008 Body B – 11,846 One thing I've discovered pretty quickly is my old Tamron 28 – 200 lens is useless and the difference in picture quality between this and the 70 – 200 L class lens is massive. I've been struggling with focus issues for a couple of years with my lens on my 35mm EOS 5. I even discussed it on a forum where camera shake was diagnosed! However now I have this 40D I can compare shots quickly and the Tamron simply does not focus properly at all - I should have stopped using it many months ago – I am sure it is broken! I thought it was user error!
  12. Well he has now lent me both bodies and a 70 - 200 L series lens. I can test them until April 6 (next tax year). I haven't checked the actuations yet, but both bodies are in nearly immaculate condition, which is amazing considering the use they will have seen over the last to years. -- Lid
  13. Thanks. Yes I used to have a 20D a few years back, but currently I still use my 35mm EOS 5! As to new prices, a new 40D with the 17 85 USM goes for around £750 on e-bay. If you allow £300 for that particular lens, then in that combination, the camera is only going for £450 and I ideally need a new lens too. I will have to wait to see what the trial of this 40D reveals.
  14. Given that I can get brand new body only for £560 (see here), I was thinking of offering £275. He's also got a 20D for sale and when he lends me the 40D to try out, he's going to lend me a 70 - 200 L class lens (which is not for sale though).
  15. Thanks. However ebay is not very helpful because all the completed listings are for new, as new or immaculate. Regarding usage, what I meant was that he does not use them every day. He tends to do events and school portrait sitings. So plenty of pictures are taken, eg 1000 at a school for instance, but there are periods when his cameras are not being used. I already have a figure in mind, but I am interested know what others think it should be. He has asked me to propose the price.
  16. Hi folks - I've been planing to buy a Canon 40d for a while now and in fact have been bidding on a few on e-bay this week. However being quite tight with my cash, I haven't won one yet and now Ive been offered one of a pair from my neighbour, who is a professional. He doesn't take loads of photos, so the camera is not hammered and in fact he is going to lend it to me for a couple of weeks anyway, so I can check it over. So the big question is what sort of money should I be offering him do you think.
  17. I also recall playing splits and chicken with our penknives with 4" blades at the age of 9 - only got cut once. One term when I was a bit older I took my air rifle to school to shoot sparrows to feed a kestrel we were using in our school play (Kes).
  18. A close shave, but bad luck too for falling in the first place! All the best for a full, speedy and complete recovery.
  19. Well it may be of some assistance with treatments. However the idiopathic in Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) means unknown cause and Aplastic anaemia is described as being idiopathic in 65% of people.
  20. I wish all good luck to your partner's girlfriend and hope that she comes through this ordeal successfully.
  21. Regarding the out-of-date food, I reckon you can walk into any large Tesco or other large supermarket chain and find out-of-date food withing 5 minutes. A quick internet search shows that Tesco is regularly fined for this. Presumably every so often some local trading standards officers pop in to the supermarkets and collect OOD items to prosecute them for.
  22. If you download the messages to your PC, how will anyone know you have not altered them? Surely it is better to keep them exactly as you received them and start using another phone and/or sim card.
  23. Sainsbury's pet insurance is looking very good till February 23. They have 15% off and first 3 months of the second year free. The policy cover looks very comprehensive too. In fact it was so much better and cheaper than my existing two cat policies with the same company, that I had to cancel them both and take out new ones with the new offer. The premiums went down by nearly £4 a month each cat and the level of cover went up!! And nothing was missing from the new policies. I haven't checked it for dogs though. Tis here.
  24. Blimey this is a long thread. I got to page 7 and no one has mentioned chromosomal sex, nor gentics predisposition, so apologies if it has been posted already. Chesters I think was alluding to the fact that you cannot change your chromosomal sex. Most men are XY most women are XX. However there are some people who get combinations like XXY or XYY or XXX which can give odd problems like delinquency. Then we have other problems by exposure to the 'wrong balance' of sex hormones in the womb causing issues. At the end of the day, a lot of this is probably much more to do with genetic, biochemical and tangible physical characteristics than perhaps we imagine.
