  1. What exactly is a 'poor cod' ? Do we know it as something else down here ?
  2. My local dealer reckons they'll all be Chinese-made soon End of an era.
  3. I'm looking at various US websites for an Abu 6601C4 (typically around $90 over there) Now, I thought all Abu's were Swedish made - seems these come from China ! Anyone know if they're any good ?? Here
  4. I'm using 26lb Shimano Antares braid on a 5601 for beach and boat bass fishing. Aside from the occasional wind knot, it's lovely stuff - lack of stretch means fantastic bite indication !
  5. Offer him £50 the lot Abu 1500 Ambassadeur went for about £70 on eBay recently, iirc.
  6. I get the feeling some of you have stag heads on plaques, tiger skin (and head) rugs, and elephant's foot umbrella stands ! Look at the thread title. "Is it worth killing a fish just to claim a record?" is the question here. And for me, no, it's not. Where's the gain ? Ok, some tackle manufacturer might bung you some free stuff, and you get your fifteen minutes in the angling press. Big deal. Imagine how much better you'd feel cradling that fish until it was strong enough to swim away. There's your reward, right there. You'd have the pictures, maybe the witnesses, and always the memories. And anyone who spends £££hundreds on bait, gear or charters but goes fishing because their fridge is empty is surely a madman
  7. Replying to the thread title :- No, of course it isn't, get a grip of yourself.
  8. What a great username! "Posted by: Sheitma Pance, Soton on 9:04pm Mon 6 Aug 07 You idiots, this shark should have been killed! haven't any of you seen "jaws"? That shark is now going to be very angry and will grow bigger and bigger and plot revenge on humans. It's only a matter of time before it starts eating people at the beach. 9. You cynics would love to be right, wouldn't ya. "Get your name in the National Geographic......"

    yet again!

I'm looking to buy a LJ at the moment. Want an automatic, but lots of silly prices around. Can the AN sages point me towards a reasonably priced model ? Thanks.
  11. Wow ! Some horribly patronising opinions on this thread regarding Sun readers. It's not like The Sun ever gets anything right, is it..........election dates, government policy leaks, football stories.....that are then picked up next day by all the other papers. Snobbery is a terrible thing. You probably read the Daily Mail, don't you ?
  12. Sorry Neil, at the risk of being controversial.............there's no way that's more than about 7lb.
  13. Are they any good ? I'm looking for a smallish (5000 sized) reel. The cheaper the better, but don't want something that'll fall apart after a few sessions. It'll be filled with braid (recommendations welcome as to the best brand ) and used for bass fishing with bait and/or lures from shore or boat. (I am a fan of using quite light gear). I await your reviews. Thanks in advance.
  14. Lobworm will be fine, fished hard on the bottom I'd say. They can live for quite some time underwater, so snip both ends off to stop it burrowing itself away, this will also release some welcome scent
  15. Handled one of these today, and quite fancy it for light sea work with a small multiplier, but the ring spacing isn't right. I'd be using it for schoolies in the summer with fairly light line, with bait and lures, shore and occasional boat use. It's just been discontinued, and I was offered it at a very fair price - but I resisted because of the rings. Anyone know if the blank is available to buy ?
