WOW - Gee thanks guys!!!A couple of questions for you? Graham X - Littlehampton's too many letters - what was your thinking (may still be on the right lines...) 53 - Derby is what we've got but it's definitely the answer to another clue. George Moore was also a famous jockey in the 60's and did WIN the Derby in 67 I think - I reckon the answer MAY be the name of a horse...He did win a number of classic I believe. Sultan - why Sale ? And yes I got to the Sandown Class vessel - Grimsby don't really fit the borders part of the clue.... Thanks again and keep those brain cells working ... Chris [ 11. But you lot will do... For the past 4 years my (ex)boss has got hold of the BHF Xmas quiz. 100 questions, cryptic and general knowledge, with all the answers on a theme. This year all the answers are names of ENGLISH towns or cities. Each year becomes a battle of wits with the compiler as he tries to out wit the Internet!!! Some of this year's have been pretty devilish to crack. For example - THE GLUTTON IS REDUCED BUT GAINS JAZZY LIONEL (13) is Wolverhampton eh?? Well a Glutton is another name for a Wolverine and Lionel Hampton was a Jazz Band leader from the 20's. So you see what we're up against!!! Below are the ones we haven't got yet and which have so far defied the best that Google can throw up!!! Any clues or 'have you thought abouts' will be gratefully received..... 24 RED STAR - A SIMPLE CLUE (8) 28 A MIXTURE OF AL203 (4) 40 SWINDLE A GRANITE PAVING BLOCK(7) 43 ROBERT___________ FERRIS (11) 44 THE WOODEN LEGGED FIDDLER REVEALED A CITY (10) 45 TERMINALIZATION WAS HIS TERM (10) 48 WOODEN STAND FOR CUTLERY AND PLATES(10) 53 CLASSIC WINNER FOR GEORGE MOORE (5) 57 RUSKIN'S AIRLINE PARTNER(6) 64 SANDOWN CLASS MEMBER FROM THE BORDERS(7) 71 FAWLTY ACADEMIC (8) 78 FOUND IN TITANIC (11) 86 LIES AND DREAMS FOLLOWED THESE DOGS(8) 87 FORMER CANADIAN P.M. KEPT A TOWN WITHIN(7) 91 REIGNING EUROPEAN DUNG BEETLE?(7) 92 FORMER LOVABLE FILM CREATURE AND TV SERIES(6) 93 LAUGHTER AND TEARS GETS YOU ON THE RIGHT TRACK(8) 94 REBUILT BY TOWNSEND(8) 97 THE PRINCIPLE OF THE INCOMPETENT QUEENS FOR EXAMPLE(12) Any thoughts out there..... Chris [ 11. Fnarr, Fnarr!! 1. I prefer breasts to legs 2. Tying the legs together keeps the inside moist. 3. Smother the butter all over the breasts! 4. If I don't undo my trousers, I'll burst! 5. I've never seen a better spread! 6. I'm in the mood for a little dark meat. 7. Are you ready for seconds yet? 8. It's a little dry, do you still want to eat it? 9. Just wait your turn, you'll get some! 10. Don't play with your meat. 11. Stuff it up between the legs as far as it will go. 12. Do you think you'll be able to handle all these people at once? 13. I didn't expect everyone to come at the same time! 14. You still have a little bit on your chin. 15. How long will it take after you put it in? 16. You'll know it's ready when it pops up. 17. Just pull the end and wait for the bang. 18. That's the biggest bird I've ever had! 19. I'm so full, I've been gobbling nuts all morning. and finally 20. Wow, I didn't think I could handle all that and still want more! Chris

The annual Geminids meteor shower is now taking place. (7 - 17 Dec). It peaks at 1000 GMT +/- 2½hrs on the 14th Dec. So the night of 13/14 should be a good time to catch one if it's clear and you can brave the cold! More info Geminids Shower Chris

I bought a Brotel on the strength of the review here (in fact twas the reason I was first alerted to AN - but that's another story). I WOULD recommend them highly - however I don't think they're still being made - are they?? Chris

Yup as a recent surfer on e-bay I too have been amazed at what things go for. Anything associated with Chris Yates going for silly money. As you say PFA vids going for much more than the 27quid it will cost you to get them from Hugh. A Medlar copy of Casting at the Sun going for in excess of 65quid (This is NOT out of print yet - though will still cost you 50 notes from Medlar). I've even thought it might be worth it to buy up some copies of Falling in Again and Secret Carp on Amazon and flogging them straight away on e-bay. Still there are some buys to be had - I was pleased I picked up a 1950 copy of The Fisherman's Bedside Book by BB for a tenner recently. I'm looking forward to its arrival and to getting stuck into its 567 pages of wonderful writing..... Chris

One of my favourite fishy tales is actually a true one & relates to the biggest fish EVER caught in British freshwater with rod and line... That of a 388lb sturgeon from the Towy in 1933. It's captor having beached the monster in the shallows and then having used a large rock as a makeshift priest couldn't get the beast out of the river. So he ran to a nearby farm to borrow a horse and cart!!! I'd just loved to have observed THAT conversation.... Full story can be found Here Chris

Still ROFLMAO Good one John... Chris

I've been with the IAC for nearly 5 years - interestingly the 'core' membership has hardly changed in that time - fished with some great guys and on some great waters as a result. Apart from here would also rate BFW very highly - again made some great contacts through that site... Chris
