  1. looked really good from here, mind you i had a fair few beers down me neck beforehand!perhaps it was just the streetlight outside i was looking at!?!?!
  2. hi opa, hope you have a great holiday!the most exiting shore fishing is aguably with the barracuda, or espeton as they sometimes call it. the outside edge of breakwaters is the best spot. check first that angling is allowed. if you see "pesca prohibida" then go elsewhere.the locals use rapalas of 9 to 12 cm, poppers, white with a red head, being very good too.if you use small lures, use a wire trace, the locals use 9 to 12kg strength, as you will lose fish with lures atached otherwise. each autonomous region in spain has its own licence, the canary islands being a region. the reality is though that they overlook holiday makers, basicaly turn a blind eye. although not if you are freshwater fishing, for some reason they can be very strict with that!our licences we get from our local bank, although, i am sure the local tackle shop will advise you, if you ask them.i am in a different region so our procedure may be slightly different.if you do get a barracuda, watch their teeth as they make, pike look gummy!!!!!best wishes and good luck!
  3. the bbc weathersite gives heavy rain for my ex hometown today.....and a sun index of 4....you work that one out!!!best wishes everybody.
  4. i was lucky enough to spend a month on the west coast of florida,a few years back. loads a fishin!! i spent quite a bit of time fishing for a species called snook. i was based on an island called sanibel, and it seemed like they were in all of the creeks, and where the creeks joined the sea especialy.the local tackle shops were fantastic, so helpful.they supplied licences, bait and encouragement.great!!
  5. been laughing me kebabs off at the map mate!!!
  6. carp are used quite regularly out here as livebait, especialy on the ebro, for the catfish.many is the time i have walked around one of our local reservoirs, after a days fishing, to see a family cooking up one of the carp they have caught on their bbq!!yum, yum!!!??!
  7. hi snatcher, i too am new to this surfing lark, and really enjoy the comments as well. every b@gger seems to know so much more than me though, about catching fish!you all seem like a friendly enough bunch, and i have picked up a lot of ideas for things to try.cheers!!
  8. i am english, but left to live in spain, many years ago. i occaisionaly pick up a english newspaper, and am amazed the amount of missinformation you have rammed down your throats, by the newspapers there. there is far too much manipulation, by the newspapers, and far too little truthful information. wake up!!!!
  9. are there any waters in the u.k that have black bass? we have them here in spain, and they are the best thing since sliced bread. or should i say beer!!
  10. hi dan, calpe is a good base for fishing, also has some good fish restaurants around the port!there is a good fishing club based in alfaz del pi. around 15mins from you. jack charlton(the famous) is the president, they go off on trips all over the place. there is an english language newspaper that comes out on fridays, called the weekly post. they had contact details in there the last time i read it.there are blackbass in guadalest and vilajoisa reservoirs, which are nearby. but better spots just a little further away.you need to get licences sorted out, they generally turn a blind eye to holiday makers sea fishing, but dont try to fish any freshwater sites without one as your gear will be conviscated on the spot and you will be fined if the guardia civil rural catch you!!licences are obtained from certain banks, my last one cost about 20 odd euros, for 3 years! not too bad!try typing `benidorm fishing`in on google . i came across a company that did trips, both sea and fresh. i presume they could sort out stuff for you. best wishes .enjoy yourself!!!
  11. kieran, if you have a problem with the spanish, post the reply on here. i will translate it.i work as a translator, (when im not doing a bit of fishing and beering that is!)
  12. sorry dan but with respect you are wrong about the fish in the local restaurants coming from the atlantic.while there might be a particular species like merluza (hake) which is brought from further afield, our fish comes from the ports of vilajoisa, altea, denia, and castellon. the boats from which work the med. the next time you are here, pop along to the ports to see what is landed, denia is the best, followed by altea. the boats get in about 16.30.Mike, there is good fishing to be had, both coarse, and sea.the coarse fishing is mainly reservoirs, carp, barbel, black bass,(great fun)plus other bits . the sea fishing is very varied,a lot of shore fishing is at night, or from rocks during he day as there are rules about how close you can fish to people swimming for example.one place for a different experience for example,(only for the experienced)is benidorm island. during the day full of tourists, but the locals catch the last ferry out in the evening, fish all night, and return on the first ferry in the morning.you are totally on your own on the island all night, there are no boats till 09.00! as i said, only for the experienced.loads of morays!!try clicking on http://www.fishingholidaysinspain.com they might be able to give you more info about sites, permits etc, best wishes, captain cohones.p.s dan,i was born in exeter and lived in exmouth, until i left to live in spain, 10 years ago, still havent forgotten the easterlies of febuary though!!!!
